No, because then people would only vote for one of the three different Pokemon they suggested. The whole point of a limited polling system is to try and prevent that.

This is under the assumption that people are *******s who don't take the time to look at the poll options.

*Sigh* I'm just trying to work this out. I've never worked with this kind of a project before so I apologize for my numerous weak points.

Really? Because I said I think I might. Does that mean I was going to 100% and did I? No. I wanted to stop nominations so early because everyone was nominating a different three Pokemon with each post, and that would completely defeat the purpose of having such nominations.
I apologize.

The poll? If you read the rules you'd understand that nominations occur before the poll.
This just tells me you didn't read the rules.

-Terywj
Again I apologize, but this:

In the end I'm either going to randomly select four from the list or go by public favoritism.

-Terywj
Confused me. My bad man.

I'm sorry, but I'd rather hear "I support making a CCAT out of Zapdos!" rather than "I support making a CCAT out of Zapdos, Machamp, Houndoom, Deliberd, Mantine, and Dunsparce! Oh and Meganium and Gengar too!"

Maybe I will be more lenient in the future towards the poll policy, but maybe I won't.

-Terywj
Why is that?

Vrael - I meant that by if everyone else coming into this CCAT was suggested a bunch of different Pokemon I was going to do such options in order to limit the choices in the poll. I also have to apologize for my earlier comments, since I was completely out of it along with the annoyances of not knowing how to run such a project. I'm sorry.

Annoying - Because when everyone suggests a different set of Pokemon there's bound to be only a select few when the poll rises around. By limiting the general options people will actually have to think about their choices, and compare them to the others.

Suppose Alice, Bob, Charles, Dan, and Erik are voting for what pie to get, and there are three choices: Apple, Cherry, and Pumpkin.

In order of preference, here are each person's favorite pies:
Alice: Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin
Bob: Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin
Charles: Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin
Dan: Cherry, Pumpkin, Apple
Erik: Cherry, Pumpkin, Apple

When the five vote, they decide to get Apple pie, because of a majority vote. However, Bob and Charles both hate Apple pie. On the other hand, no one hates Cherry pie; as a matter of fact, two people love it.

Wait. How do Bob and Charles both hate Apple pie if it's their favorite type of pie?

I know you're representing it in some way but that part didn't make sense.

Yanmega is the winner of the poll and will know be the spotlight for CCAT 1.

Next up is the discussion of which sets would be most preferable / listed on the bold vote poll.

From Smogon derives three sets: Lead, Specs, and Life Orb. These three will form the backbone of the bold vote poll.

Moveset choosing will not be through nominations but a bold vote poll which will be assembled probably really soon.

If there are no objections please say so, if you have a set to suggest then post as the following to be considered for an addition to the bold vote poll:

Name of Set
Yanmega @ Item
Ability / Nature
EV Spread
~ Attack
~ Attack
~ Attack
~ Attack

Thanks,

Well my point was with Specs and Life Orb as the options, if the community can agree on one of the two (say Specs) then it prevents the need of an extra poll. :)

Yanmega is a sweeper, for sure. With the amount of steels and other Pokemon who resist its STAB rampant in OU, Tinted Lens is the best ability choice. Specs tinted lens is pretty hard to beat for a sweeping set, so I think we should focus on the teammates more than anything.

Yanmega NEEDS a spinner, so having Starmie or Tentacruel on the team is pretty necessary.

I have to go now, but I'll continue this when I get home.

I was waiting for other members do discuss their agreement / disagreement to working with Choice Specs Yanmega before moving onto teammates, but yes Rapid Spin support is completely needed.

my choice won?

no friggen way
but anyways

rapid spin is a must
and choice specs sounds good, he doesn't need scarf as he gets a boost every turn, is there anything else that could help him out

and now i have to do this

Yanmega @ Life Orb
Timid/Tinted Lens
252 SpA/252 Spe/6 HP
Tail Wind
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Hypnosis/Shadow Ball/U-Turn

He comes in on a fighter locked into a fighting move, uses tail win on the switch, and now hits stupidly hard with bug buzz and air slash, Tail Wind can also benefit other members of the team.

So basically I'm waiting for a few more guys to confirm their set choice, and we can officially start with teammate discussion but you guys are already on it. :)

either of the main sets work.

specs tinted lens is more of a support set since a lot of things are slightly shy of a sweep with base 95 spe (lucario only works because of its priority, same for SDscizor). If we want a sweeping yanmega, LO speed boost is the way to go.

Yanmega can be a great wallbreaker though with specs lens, which imo would be more of a support role rather than a sweeper of its own. Yanmega could still weaken various walls to the point where they could be broken by something faster, say like agiligross getting past rotom-H after it switches into a specs bug buzz or something like that.

We have to fully consider HOW yanmega will be the focus of this team.

I was about to suggest a Life Orb Speed Boost Sweeper with Baton Pass.

Then I realized Yanmega doesn't learn Baton Pass.

So I'll just go with Tinted Specs. ugh.

TBH I wanted to use the SweepingMega set (the one with LO Speed Boost) since it's easier to base a team around that, but it sounds like I'll get outvoted...

There are two things that Yanmega needs to be successful though:
1) A Rapid Spinner. Since we're using SpecsMega offensively, we'll want to use Starmie in order to keep the offensive synergy going. Depending on our team and how well it checks Salamence, we're either going to want to use the Defensive set, a LO 3 attacks set with Rapid Spin, or a LO set that sacrifices an attacking move for Recover.
2) Something to remove Blissey. HeaTrap is an amazing set for this as Magma Storm + Explosion can effectively remove Blissey. Additionally, Heatran pairs really well synergy-wise with Yanmega, as it is immune to Yanmega's Fire-type weakness and resists its Ice/Flying-type weaknesses. Meanwhile, Yanmega can easily come in on a Close Combat/Earthquake that's directed towards Heatran and begin to rip stuff apart. Additionally, we could use Pokemon that can easily switch into Blissey. Machamp comes to mind, as RestTalk basically counters Blissey while Substitute + 3 attacks completely demolishes stuff apart.

As for offensive partners, Metagross resists Ice, Rock, and Flying while Yanmega resists Ground. Lucario resists Rock and Ice while Yanmega resists Fighting. Gyarados resists Fire. However, Agility Metagross is still threatened by Scarf Flygon while Scarf Gengar does 50% or so with it. Meanwhile, Lucario still has to deal with Gliscor, Salamence (should it not be really weakened), and Gyarados should it not carry Stone Edge. Gyarados is still revenge killed by Scarf Latias/Gengar also, while Jolteon outspeeds Adamant versions. Additionally, Gyarados has trouble with Bulky Waters (namely Vaporeon and HP Electric Suicune).

I think for offensive purposes, if we decide to end the game with a sweep, Metagross should be used. It has an extremely useful Rock-resist and can check Ttar with its good defenses. Additionally, it'll be able to outspeed Scarftar (Lucario doesn't) and doesn't have as many problems as Gyarados.

One more thing. IMO we should go with Timid on Yanmega. It's always helpful to have that extra Speed to get some KOs and also helps in KOing Zapdos. Additionally, unless Modest gains any additional KOs, the extra Speed would be insurance.

@ Metal~Mario - I know right? I actually got the idea from a RP Gligar sweeper I use in LC that passes the boosts on to something else when a counter comes in.

@ supermarth - I agree with almost everything you said, but I also think that Wish support would be good for Yanmega in the event that you can't remove rocks or they get put back up after your spinner dies. You suggest Metagross and I contend that Jirachi would be a good alternative since it can pass Wish while maintaining the same typing.

I like SubPetaya, though that probably doesn't work anymore with the amount of priority(though we could bait users with a fast pokemon and trap them). I nominate SubRoost w/ Life Orb otherwise, though.

Speed Boost ftw, though tinted lens might be preferred on the second set.

We need some sort of Taunt lead or anti-lead as well. You guys are probably wondering why, and the reason why is basically what Gates said: just in case. They do a good job of keeping Rocks off the field early-game, so it takes pressure off your Spinner and gives early openings for Yanmega to come in and do some damage.

I also say LO > Specs. I don't really care what the set is, but locking yourself into one move when you only have base 116 Special Attack isn't really a good thing. Even when you're basically always hitting neutral from Tinted Lens, you're still going to miss out on a lot of kills.

Other than that I have no clue. I just woke up, so my brain's a little foggy.

So at the moment our concerns for Yanmega (which seems it will be either Specs or Life Orb Yanmega) are the following:

- Taunt lead / Anti-Lead
- Rapid Spin support
- Blissey counter
- Wish support?

LO Starmie with Grass Knot is a great anti-lead, considering rapid spin, offensive presence, and speed as well as decent synergy with yanmega, particularly ckeching faster threats to it like infernape/scarftran. It will also lure out high-spdef targets which can then be better dealt with by the rest of the team.

I've got a preliminary idea, and this is just for the sake of beginning the discussion with something concrete, which might give us a better idea of what we're working towards...

Starmie @ Life Orb

252 Spe/252 Spatk/4 HP
Timid/Natural Cure

Grass Knot
Ice Beam
Hydro Pump/Surf
Rapid Spin

Hydro Pump gets more power vs. lead metagross and jirachi, so I'm favoring it here, but Surf is a more reliable option vs. faster suicide leads like aerodactyl/azelf who can't be guaranteed with hydro pump. Hydro Pump will also 1hko most scizor, which makes it another nice option. Grass Knot is even a potential 2hko vs. offensive gyarados.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
252 HP/220 Def/36 Spe
Bold/Serene Grace

Body Slam
Iron Head
Wish
Substitute

Not sure on EVs, but paralyzing things that love to come in on jirachi will definitely help Yanmega (also helping to catch heatrans that switch in). Provides a nice ground attack lure for yanmega to come in on too while also passing Wish. Substitute scouts the opponent's response to jirachi and lets you play safer while scaring your opponent into not knowing what you'll do next.

Forretress @ Leftovers
EVs TBD
Nature TBD/Sturdy

Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Payback
Explosion

This is the tspiker/spinner, and toxic spikes help to let Yanmega blow past Blissey, probably the only thing that could actually wall it safely when it has Choice Specs. I think toxic spikes are a big part of giving yanmega a chance to sweep (this might be another reason to switch to the LO Speed Boost yanmega, as protect would give you a bit of time to toxic stall and scout attacks).

Kingdra @ Life Orb

252 SpAtk/228 Spe/28 HP
Modest/Swift Swim

Rain Dance
Hydro Pump
Dragon Pulse
Draco Meteor

This has a few purposes: it clears weather for yanmega so that it doesn't get weakened by sandstorm/hail, it helps patch up this team's fire weakness both with rain and its own x4 resist, and it can also create holes in the opposing team. It also creates a scare of the dreaded Mixed Rain Kingdra which will **** an unprepared team, but when they discover it's all special AND that it outspeeds their scarfed latias then they're in trouble.

Gliscor @ Leftovers

252 HP/252 Spe/4 Def
Jolly/Sand Veil

Stealth Rock
Roost
Earthquake
U-turn/Taunt

This team needs stealth rock, and u-turn gives yanmega opportunities to switch in safely. Earthquake keeps us from being swept by SDluc, and it in general can turn sandstorm against its users, especially with the combination of toxic spikes and roost.

Yanmega @ Life Orb
252 Spe/252 SpAtk/4 Def
Modest/Speed Boost

Protect
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Shadow Ball/HP Ground

This would be the last sweeper, with Blissey weakened by perpetually coming in to sponge special hits but being driven out by toxic spikes. Protect gives it a speed boost, and LO ups its damage potential. Coverage of its moves is decent, but the c hoice of hp ground vs. shadow ball is a tough one. P:

The basic goal of this particular team is to overwhelm the opponent on the special attacking spectrum while also having the power to take out key walls. I really, REALLY think LO Speed yanmega would work best.

this is just a really basic, "first impression" kind of team btw. lol. i don't want to dominate the discussion with this >_>

kirbyraeg's team looks solid, but there are just a few things I question. The biggest one is Starmie as your anti-lead. Why Starmie when you can use Empoleon, who not only has higher SpA but also access to a priority move in Aqua Jet? You lost the ability to spin but gain the ability to set up rocks earlier which can also free up Gliscor's moveset to let him run both Taunt and U-Turn. Or you could leave Stealth Rock off Empoleon entirely and run a moveset of Aqua Jet/Grass Knot/Hydro Pump/Ice Beam for versatility and as a secondary dragon counter. I also question the inclusion of both Forretress and Jirachi, as your team now has 3 fire weaknesses. Yeah you have Kingdra and Starmie, but Starmie will likely die early on since it's your lead and Kingdra's presence means that your team is vulnerable to a Heatran with good prediction. You could run a different lead and Vaporeon to wish pass and still have a better fire resistance. Other than that your team is quite solid.

But you're right, this shouldn't take the place of the rest of the discussion. I propose instead we should make a list of the different pokemon that fit into the categories listed above in order of importance. I'm including OU pokemon in these lists as well as UU and BL pokemon that can cover Yanmega's weaknesses somehow or serve multiple purposes.

Rapid Spinner
Forretress
Starmie
Tentacruel
Claydol (covers rock and electric weaknesses)
Donphan (covers rock and electric weaknesses)

Taunt Leads
Aerodactyl
Azelf
Gliscor
Gengar (it's possible)
Crobat
Gallade (also a Blissey counter)
Honchkrow (it's possible)
Alakazam
Ambipom
Froslass
Electrode (can also set up rain to weaken fire attacks)

Anti-Leads
to be written

Wish Passers
Blissey
Jirachi
Jolteon
Latias
Salamence (lol)
Togekiss
Vaporeon
Clefable
Umbreon
