Huge night in college football tonight! And LSU still has a shot at the BCS Championship game. Here, I will explain my reasoning:
LSU only has two losses, BOTH being in third overtime. LSU won both their division and their conference, the SEC. We're not counting by it, but if we counted by regulation play, LSU would be 11-0-2.
#1 ranked Missouri is about to lose to #9 Oklahoma, which will put them lower than LSU, no questions asked.
#2 West Virginia has already lost to Pitt, putting them lower than LSU, no questions asked.
#3 Ohio State does not need to play, and is a shoo-in for the number 1 spot and the BCS championship game.
#4 Georgia could definitely be jumped by LSU. Georgia has two losses, the same number of LSU. Not only did Georgia not win their conference, but they did not even win their division. The team that did win their division, Tennessee, beat Georgia in regular season. LSU just beat Tennessee in the SEC championship. Although the computers (1/3 of the BCS) will most likely count Georgia over LSU, the writers (another 1/3) on ESPN and CBS have both confirmed that they believe LSU should go over Georgia, and the coaches' poll (last 1/3) could likely say the same.
#5 Kansas lost last week to Missouri, ruining Kansas' undefeated record. Not only is Missouri about to lose by a decent margin, but they are losing to Oklahoma, a well ranked team in Kansas' division that Kansas didn't even have to play! They didn't have to play Oklahoma, and they didn't even have to play Texas. Being completely straightforward here, Kansas was only so well ranked because they had an undefeated record. Now that they don't, and they obviously had an easy schedule, and the team that beat them is about to lose, I believe LSU will jump them.
#6 Virginia Tech is ranked over LSU in the BCS, although LSU beat Virginia Tech by a very healthy margin during regular season play. LSU is only ranked under Virginia Tech because LSU's second regular season loss was later in the season than Virginia Tech's. In fact, all the television writers are not even including Virginia Tech in the race, especially considering that LSU is actually ranked above VTech in the AP standings.
#7 LSU is mah team, baby.
#8 USC is ranked under LSU, but just beat UCLA, a decent team. I believe that USC is actually our opposition for the BCS #2 spot, and they are ranked under us!
I do believe we have a good shot at the BCS championship game, and if we make it, I am almost certain that we are too talented and too fast for Ohio State, especially with our first string quarterback back in the game.
