Well I think it's just to facilitate the organization of crews. Like First theres an Ohio clan, then theres crews within the clan, which is just the broader category.

I think there should not be online clans in the classic sense. I just had an idea for how it could work.

Everyone in the clan gets each other's friendcodes, or at least the leader's. When you want to play together in the clan, you would have the leader act as a host [hub] for the clan, so that everyone joins in the leader's game. You could have up to 16 people join in. Once in, the leader decides which players will play in the first match, and then everyone will spectate. After that match, more matches can be coordinated. Only one match can be conducted at a time, so as to not strain the host.

Having 16 people with one match won't lag it too much, as only the people playing the match will be actively inputting and outputting data. The spectators will only read the data sent by the players, and only be sending data occasionally to the host to let it know they are there. Also, I would like if they had a small chatroom that uses the Wii Remote for use inbetween matches.

I think one of the most popular ideas I've heard amongst local wii enthusiasts is almsot like the Halo 2 online in the sense that you could sign on and have some means of a play now kind of feature(similar to the optimatch), or the ability to host a room, where the lobby can be used for chatting and organizing matches, and you can play with other people in the room. if it ever panned out that way im sure crew members across the globe could all agree that it'd be pretty sick

Clans sounds awesome I heard stuff about online super smash I hope thats true. Nintendo has so many things they should add after the success of Melee and all. All we can do is wait :(. I wonder if like headset capability and such might be added, but Nintendo doesn't usually do that stuff because now a days there are online predators that will do almost anything to touch on a kid. That saying i don't think many kids such as ages 7-10 will even figure out the game could do that.

I don't think they'd ever go in the direction of a headset. I do think they'll find a way to incorporate a chat sytem with the wii-mote on a keyboard on the screen.

I love the idea.

Clan tournements would be hella fun, and with that thought what about tag team SSB? You press a button and you fly off screen or teleport off and someone else in your clan appears or jumps in on screen. I dunno if anyone else has proposed this idea but it would solve the porblem of wanting to have a whole clan vs. whole clan game without having too many characters on screen.

And you could have like (for example) an all kirby clan.

I hope there's at least keyboard chat or something. But a headset would be really cool.

I think due to alot of the comments by Miyamoto at the GDC this year, Nintendo will entirely bypass the headset. Miyamoto has made it clear as crystal that Nintendo will be putting the experience of the gamer and the reputation of the gaming industry above sales, and I think a bunch of "flaming" and abuse that is all too common in the headset format XBOX Live is exactly what our boy at Nintendo is attempting to steer clear of. You can look at a blog of the proceedings of his keynote lecture, or video footage from the GDC at http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167078.html

Oh now I get'cha you can have thing like West side vs. East side sweet!

As for the headset, if you wanted it bad enough i guess you could just use Vent or somthing

One of my friends has a 360, and I'll have a 360 for Christmas so maybe we can use it's chatting feature while we play? It makes more sense than having to buy a new headset and using a computer program.

Hey, us Nintendo [edit, girls too.]boys are adaptive. We'll evolve to meet the challenges of the online Brawl. Personally, I will bypass the headset, and send snail-mail to all my opponent, so have your adresses ready and watch your mailbox; I'm coming for ya!

Online Krews! Though this may eliminate the rivalry West Vs. east coast blah blah blah.

As skill is concerned the best member should help the lesser member to bring up the overall prestige of the krew. Online SSBB will probiably have no rankings, rooms, etc. But Sakui will probiably put enough attention to eliminate the lag since he is a god.

i doubt anyone will except me in their krew. lol

Hey the thread didn't die! I thought it had been lost to the forbiden SECOND PAGE!

I am all for the making clans, I believe that Online crews coupled with intense no lag action will give Nintendo it's first really big, really competitive online game.

Yes, I supose Sakurai is great but I really wish he would just say one thing about about Brawl. I mean even if he was at and interview and fake coughed while saying "Brawl is online with no lag, and (Insert your favoirite charecter) is in there plus we kept wavedashing and teching and we are releasing it tommorow and it is the greatest and most balenced game ever" Would that be so hard to roll into a fake cough?

This is off-topic as far as clans go, but I believe that we can expect wavedashing and teching and here's my speculation. In SSB, it was possible to tech, and do a movement similar to a wavedash with Samus or Jigg's. Teching and wavedashing became more integral in the play of SSBM, and I think we can expect it to be similar to melee. Plus, in the world trailer, it looks like Snake does a backwavedash when he does his rocket launcher move. Though, some have argued that it was a roll, or it is simply a movement that is part of the attack itself, like a startup animation.

And again this is off topic, I'm sorry. I've been yearning to give my two cents without getting flamed in the actual thread.

they should make a ventrilo hub, like dc++ except for voice, that everyone who is playing can go on. that would rock...

Nintendo would never support a clan section to the game. If anything, it would be on gamebattles, but even then, it would suck because erach clan would consist of members like 6842-68547-8215-3664 and 2169-8462-1594-3524, rather than regular gamertags.

Don't be a realist bro, try showin a little more optimism. Nintendo could come through for us. I know my Christmas list would be complete if there was online clans. Can't wait, my online clan is gonna take the Brawl online by storm! You've been warned.....

I may be wrong, but I think the friend codes are just used as addresses on Wi-fi games. I believe once two people add their addresses their nicknames appear as a gamertag would(correct me if that's not right).

that is right, except you have to pick a tag for them to represented as. when u add someones wii number, it asks you what you want to call them.

Remember Nintendo isn't going it alone for the Wii's online capabilities. I believe it was GameSpy or IGN (don't flame me for this, I'm currently double-checking for verification.) that has teamed up with Nintendo for help with instituting the online functions for games.

I don't have my iPod on me currently, but I had heard it a few times, but it was definitely discussed on one of the Smashcasts. I'll listen through tonight and then I'll get back to you all with the time in which Smashcast when it is mentioned.

I remember a link somewhere on SWF to a site that said in was Gamespy (or whoever it was that did most DS games), and they were going to include screen names, and leaderboards. Not sure about the screen names though.

Thanks Banks XD. And Jester, one thing the gaming community needs to realize is the pressure to succeed in coordinating the online play. If GameSpy has the temerity to run such an undertaking, I've got faith in them. I believe that Brawl could be the game that defines the Wii as a system, and that GameSpy realizes that it mostly hinges on their success with the online play.

So that's my two cents.

i love the thought of it all. espesily the one where you have to try out for a clan. i know clans will start to appear if the game is made for it or not but it would defintly be way more fun if it was. that way you could keep in touch with your clan and set up dates for smashing together or set dates for giving a "wanna be part of your group guy" a chance/tryout. but what happens happens and the game makers will make the best desion i think.

I agree. At this point since we're no longer being blessed with any info, we've been scrutinizing the same trailers for the smallest details, and arguing over bizarre character's berth in Brawl, it has come to a point where I'm going to leave it up to Sakurai and his very capable team. Right now, I'd rather not hear any more info until release, and just let Sakurai suprise me.

Gotta keep the faith.

Sounds like there's some potential... I'm open to almost any way of doing online right now.

(Sorry, maybe I'll post a real opinion later. Bedtime!)
