Well the title explians it all what do you think?
Clans solve many ranking system problem but not all
Clans for everyone Noobs, Pros, and Mid-class

Street cred to buddy9246 for inspiring me to make this thread

---(ADDED)----
Maybe a Crew/Clan Section Could be added to smashboards? (that is of course if online crew become popular)
-Clan tryouts
-Crew challeges
-etc
(The moderators will probaly hate me for saying that)

You could come to this site ON YOUR WII a post things like "ok I won now its Yaddayaddas turn I have two stock left"

Street cred to buddy9246 for inspiring me to make this thread

heh If I get flamed I blame you buddy heh, just joking

Clans could easily pair good matches, you prove your skill by fighting the clan to get in the clan then you fight rival clans of similiar skill...pretty nice sounding to me!

Yeah, that is another way of looking at. pairing ups. It might even help pairing up at tourneys.

Well, there are already 'crews' for smash. So I'm sure they'll be crews/clans for brawl too.

Now this is a cool idea. I've always loved games with clans/guilds/crews/whatever you want to call them. What Nintendo could do would be to allow a 4 or so character "tag" in front of your name (much like how clans in Diablo II were made). Clans would simply have different tags. Online clan wars anyone?

Although, as Th0rn said, even if Nintendo dosn't officially have "clans" in the game, people will form groups that play together, for sure. I think he was talking about online though.

Wanna know the newest clan that will dominate Brawl online? Just look at my sig.

Lets see.....you know how in the Olympics that even if your partner gets dead last for your country and you still end up getting a gold medal cause you got in 1st? Same should go for the clans online. If you are in first on the rank standings then your whole team should be in first. Yeah, your teammates shouldn't hold you down if you're the only one giving peak performance. Not that my teams gonna suck or anything like that!

Maybe you should give each player of the clan an individual clan rank and then the clan as a whole. That way if someone were to play alone against someone without anyone knowing then your team won't lose ratings.

Good idea^^

EDIT: that clan won't win! mine and my friends will. as soon as we think of a good name.

The BTX_<username> players will pwn you all!!!
Go BTX_Keige, BTX_Ultimax 07, BTX_Yoda! Attack now!!!!
I can't wait for a bunch of crew battles to get the best crew (even if we have to keep track of it ourselves)

If clans/crews become popular enough, a clan section will probaly be added to this forum
for listing things like clantryouts and crew battle reqeust

I don't think it seems feasible for online play. A crew battle is fun when everyone is in the same room, but I couldn't just sit alone and wait to play...where's the fun?

Wow. Great idea. My crew is in Oregon, and it would be sick to get to play with them. I think they're should be an official clan thread also. I hope this all goes through.

An excellent point, yes everythings more fun when your buddies are at your side. But with online crews you can take on crews that are in otherwise inaccesable areas. Maybe their could be a spetator mode, with online voice chat, that would make up for it a litttle bit.
But yea Id rather go to a tourney in person.

I don't like it-- iThe clan system for Halo 2 on Xbox Live was a disaster.
There probaly wouldn't be a clan system, rather people would manage them on their own over the magic of the internet. Nintendo seems to like its online play almost void of human interaction aside from a few games, they like you to play random matches unless you know someone's friend code, which could be shared on a forum.

@jesterbox: good, I like that idea. That's essentially what happened w/Halo 2. Initially there was a clan playlist on Xbox live, but after a while only cheaters played it so that they could improve their clan rank. It's better for crews battles to exist as they do now. If you create a playlist it just invites cheaters who care about rank, not about the game.

Has anyone seen that google earth mod that shows you were smashers are? Well a lots of them live in the middle of nowere, if these loners form clans the competitive smash community could definatly grow. Think, you might even be able to take on clans from others countries! Many people have probaly been itching to take on Ken and stuff.

Setting you up the bomb.
I like the term "team" better ("crew" works too), as "clan" to me is more descriptive of the bonds of kinship than that of teammates - that and that whole MMORPG-ish feeling that Sushiman brought up...

At any rate, I'll worry more about the formation of my team once mid-terms are outta the way...

I just used the term clans because if I just said crews I was afriad people wouldn't know that I was talking about clans...err...online crews, yea I guess they could use an official term for online crews in Brawl. How about "WiCrew" or "SmashClan"...nevermind those sound horrible.

Oh yea I updated the first post so take a look!

Hmmmm... I geuss this thread is kinda gonna die :( not much response, a lot of view but few comments oh well :)

I always thought clans were more fps then mmo, and guilds were more mmo-ish. But maybe thats just me.

I think if they add online play, then they should for sure add a co op feature. You could co op with a friend sitting right next to you, or someone on a friends list.

I am just not so sure about what a co op feature in this game could be......

This is all assuming that Brawl will support online play, and that if it does it will support more than 1v1 without lag problems. But if it does, then a ranking system, crew support, spectating... I want the works. No reason not to include these things, except for maybe spectating which might lead to lag.

How about an option for sub-crews within a clan? Say, uniting all the crews in X_state under one name, but keeping the crews united and ranking them within the clan through online matches.

Omg, I support this idea fully. I still can't believe it hasn't been added yet. It's insanity, It's preposterous, It's just plain weird! (Sound like something off a movie? That probably is XD) I think this is a magnificent idea though, I really do. I'm a proud owner of a Clan/Crew right now. ^_^'
