I. Introduction

August 4th, 2008
Smash at the Shore 2 was announced. Following the success of the first Smash at the Shore, I decided to take a new direction with the series. Everyone loved SatS finishing at my place, so I decided to hold it solely there, but instead make it a smashfest only, with a flat fee entry and providing unlimited food and paying out the winners of a draft crew battle.

August 18th, 2008
Due to other tourneys being confirmed with more player interest, SatS2 was canceled. I had plenty of nachos purchased for the event from an awesome sale at ShopRite, and nothing special to use them with, so I was quite tired of them for the coming months. I tried to save them for a bit incase I was able to re-announce SatS2 by the end of that summer.

May 26th, 2009
Summer term is almost here at Drexel university, which means no more biweeklies or CoT tournaments until October. This season will be the return of SatS, with the new SatS2 being a standard tournament, featuring some included aspects from the original smashfest, with some new twists added.

II. Basic Information

IIa. Date

This tournament is on a Sunday. No school johns, it's summer. This also doesn't conflict with any other tournaments.
Sunday - June 14, 2009

IIb. Location

Chibo's House
813 West Shore Drive
Brigantine, NJ 08203

Everything will be held in my back yard. It's plenty big enough to host a great tournament. Attendees of the first SatS will remember this as where the tourney finished that night.
You can park anywhere on the street. Enter my backyard by walking through the gate on the left side of the house. Pictures coming soon.

IIb. Schedule

My place will be open to everyone at 10:30am. Brawl Doubles will start promptly at 11:30am. Brawl Singles will commence after a short intermission following Doubles. Brawl+ Singles will begin somewhere near the end of Singles (probably starting during losers semis).

IIc. Price

  • Venue Fee: Free! Nothing! (Chibo tourney without a venue fee???)
  • Brawl Singles: $10
  • Brawl Doubles: $20 per Team
  • Brawl+ Singles: $5

For every standard definition TV you can bring, I will give you two (2) SatS Pass for the event. For every Wii + Brawl you can bring, I will give you one (1) SatS Pass. For more information on what a SatS Pass is, check out the Features section in this post.

IIe. Payout

  • Brawl Doubles
    • 1st place - 60% of the pot + 2 SatS Passes for each Teammate
    • 2nd place - 30% of the pot
    • 3rd place - 10% of the pot
  • Brawl and Brawl+ Singles
    • 1st place - 60% of the pot + 2 SatS Passes
    • 2nd place - 30% of the pot
    • 3rd place - 10% of the pot
If a lot of people show up, I will adjust the payouts to pay out 4th and/or 5th place finishers.

To find out what a SatS Pass is, check out the features section.

IIf. Rules and Regulations

  • Please arrive on time. If you are late, I can not guarantee you a spot in whatever tourney you are late for.
  • There are no refunds.
  • DO NOT LOAD YOUR GAME THROUGH THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL!!! If you are caught loading your game through the homebrew channel without asking, you will be asked to leave. If you would like unlimited length replays enabled, I will use my own personal sd card to load the game (sorry I can't trust anyone without knowledge of what codes they have on).
  • Trash talking is allowed, and is encouraged! We love the hype! However, please do not distract the players too much at their discretion. Respect their right to focus on a match.
  • Any destruction of anyone's property (ESPECIALLY MY OWN) at the my place will not be tolerated, and in the case of such an event, you will be asked to leave, and must reimburse the owner if the damage is serious.
  • No drugs, alcohol, or any crap like that in there. If you have any, you will be kicked out.
  • Chibo's Videos For The Masses Rule: By entering the tournament you agree to have any tournament matches be recorded if possible, and be uploaded without the need for consent by the players in the match. The only time a match can be requested not to be uploaded is with extraordinary occurrences such as a power outage during the match. Failure to abide by this rule can result in a DQ for a tournament match.

Reasoning: I believe that if players attend tournaments and play with the potential ability to win money at the expense of the community, the community is allowed to watch matches that are part of these tournaments that had money on the line.
  • Other standard rules apply, don't be stupid, lets all have an awesome time!

III. Rules

IIIa. Brawl Singles

  • 3 Stock
  • 8 Minute Time Limit
  • No Items
  • No stalling or running away to purposely run out the time limit (running out minimal time is one thing, multiple minutes is just ridiculous)
  • If you need to add your name to change your controls, please remember to do so, and do it quickly. You can not quit in the middle of a match if you realize your controls are wrong.
  • First round consists of all characters being chosen by a blind pick. The first stage will then be determined by a stage strike method. Players take turn striking out neutral stages until only one stage remains, which is the stage that is played. After the first match is over, each player bans one stage that can not be used in counterpicks.
  • Match two/three will first consist of the previous loser picking a stage, then the previous winner picking their character, and finally the previous loser picking their character.
  • You may not counterpick a stage you have already won on earlier that set.
  • Neutral Stages:
    • Battlefield
    • Final Destination
    • Smashville
    • Yoshi's Island (Brawl)
    • Lylat Cruise
  • Counterpick Stages:
    • Delfino Plaza
    • Castle Siege
    • Frigate Orpheon
    • Battleship Halberd
    • Rainbow Cruise
    • Brinstar
    • Pokemon Stadium
    • Pokemon Stadium 2
    • Norfair
  • Currently DDD's infinite and small-step chaingrabs are banned.
  • Ice Climber things are legal, as long as they aren't used for stalling.
  • If there is a dispute over controller ports, play Rock Paper Scissors for it (best 2 out of 3, no items, FD only).
  • Suicide Move Rules: (all situations are when both players are at 1 stock)
    • If a player successfully ends the match with either Bowser or Ganondorf's over B attack by suicide, then the player who initiated the move wins.
    • If a player ends the match by swallowing with Kirby or DDD and falling off the stage and the game counts it as a tie, the player who initiated the swallow move wins. If the player who was swallowed is shown as winning the match (in the instance the broke out right before they died which some people might not notice), then they win.

IIIb. Brawl Doubles

  • Same standard rules and stages as singles.
  • Chibo's Color-Blind Rule (Modified): If a player on a team is using a character that might make it tough to determine the teams color (like Sonic, Lucario, or Pokemon Trainer), they are allowed to request control of a certain color to help lessen confusion. This rule is not in effect if team color appropriate texture hacks are applied.
  • Stock sharing is allowed.
  • Team Attack is on.

IIIc. Brawl+

  • Coming Soon

IV. Features

If you receive a SatS Pass (payment, winning a tourney, or bringing a setup), you may use that to pay for any of the features.
SatS Passes are two (2) for $3, or one (1) for $1.50.

IVa. Food

There will be plenty of food cooked and on-sale here!
All of the following items will be available for 1 SatS Pass
  • Hot Dog
  • Frozen Strawberry Drink
  • Cotton Candy

Additionally, you can get the all-day unlimited drink pass for $3!
Get a wristband for $3 that will get you unlimited drinks until the drink machine runs out (should last for a while)

IVb. Dunk Tank!?

Why is there gonna be a dunk tank at my tourney??? Well the day before is my lil bro's bday party, which my mom is renting stuff for. When I heard about it, I had her keep the stuff for an extra day so I can run a tourney on Sunday!

I'm working to get multiple well-known players you would love to dunk on-board with this, and I have a couple down for it so far. More will be announced soon.

To get a chance to dunk a player, it costs $1 for three (3) throws (or you can use a SatS Pass and get 4 throws). Some throws might be special and not require money. If you volunteer to get up there in the dunk tank, some sort of reimbursement can be arranged, such as providing SatS Passes.

Dunk Inui:

A member of one of the best teams here in the Atlantic North and co-leader of the famous Enemy Controller crew, Inui will take a turn in the Dunk Tank!

CoT4 Reparations Dunk:

While I would love to be in the Dunk Tank for a while, I'm going to be busy running the tournament and doing other things for me to spend a lot of time with it, so I came up with this awesome idea for a Dunk:
I will get up into the Dunk Tank and everyone that attended Clash of the Titans 4 will be given one chance (FOR FREE!) to Dunk me! I won't be surprised if people chant "Money Back!" if I get Dunked.

IVc. Location

So many smash tournaments are held in dull, boring areas. SatS2 is located in Brigantine, which is right next door to Atlantic City! Come early and hit the beach, or stay late and hit up the Casinos afterwards!

V. Traveler's Info

Va. Driving To Brigantine

There is plenty of space for parking all down my street for when you get here. As for getting here, a simple mapquest will do. You will most likely be getting on the Atlantic City Expressway, taking it until the very end, take the exit to Brigantine, and I live on the west side of the island.

Vb. Public Transportation

It's actually pretty easy to get here by Public Transportation. Your main option will be the Atlantic City Line Train by NJ Transit. The train has stops at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, Cherry Hill, Lindenwold, Atco, Hammonton, Egg Harbor, and Absecon. A one-way ticket from Philly to AC is $8, and it is cheaper if you start from a closer destination.

Once you get to the AC Train Terminal, you can either have someone pick you up (it's a 15 min drive from my house), or walk to the AC Bus Terminal (like 3 blocks from the Train) to take a bus to Brigantine. I'll have to check where the bus drops you off, it's either a long walk, or a 2 minute drive, which anyone should be able to pick you up easily.

Once you arrive in Atlantic City by train, the bus depot is about 3 blocks away.

The train station is on the little loop on Miss America Way and Kirkman Blvd. The Bus Depot is on Arctic and Ohio.

Take bus 501 pretty far through Brigantine. Somewhere around Brigantine Ave and 2nd Street North.

Check njtransit.com for schedules.

Vc. Housing

Since I don't have school the next day (Monday, yay one week summer break!) it won't be too much of a problem for me to house some people. I can't house that many however. If you would like to pitch a tent in my backyard, that would work great lol.

Surprised at how the hype lvl of this o_O.

*Checks for other tourneys on this date*
meh....

Me thinks chibo is closedminded atm. You cant buy attendence with gimmicks. I just cant forget about school, which doesnt end til june 23rd, just because theres a dunk tank and food.
Also IMO you are trying to hard to make people like you again....reparation dunk isn't necessary. It seems like you saying “plz reaccept me, ill do whatever it takes.”

But what do I know? Im only 16...I'll work at a job I hate to death and try to make it.

I'm not trying to rely on just gimmicks for this, though perhaps your right. It's still a tourney none the less, and people love tourneys. This past weekend there was like nothing in NJ and people went as far as to make a thread wondering where a tourney could possibly be lol. Also, South Jersey is DEAD, and people normally jump to the idea of a tourney there, and many have requested that I hold another tourney down here. I've only held two in S-NJ and its been almost a year since my last.

As for the reparation dunk, I'm not trying to make people "like me again." If they do, cool, if not, w/e. I know that my friends are still with me on whatever. People who choose not to associate with me over a single botched event are the ones who are closed minded. I've also talked and set things straight with a lot of the people who were strongly against me post-CoT4, I'm now cool with Kai for instance lol who would that would happen!?
I just thought of what people would like to see up in the tank, and I was actually one of the top requested people. The whole money back thing is now a common joke at tourneys, and I joke around with it as well, so I thought this would be a hilarious idea.

But yea everyone, don't get me wrong, this is still a standard Brawl/Brawl+ tourney, just with some special things to set it aside from the norm. After all, if there's nothing special at a tourney, what makes it different than any other tourney out there?

And it's not like I thought "hmmm.... what would be cool for a tourney... i know, a dunk tank!" its cause my lil bro's bday is party is the day before and my parents rented it for that and i asked em to keep it an extra day. now thats usin' ur resources lol

This is what I'm saying. You're ability to find a venue, make it look acceptable, and use what's around you is AMAZING. As a director, you're the ****. Not many people can touch on that.

As a host, and as a tournament director, you're pure trash. Every even I've ever been to of yours has been complete silly garbage. Even small, 20 person events would take like 6-7 hours.

If you let me and Inui, etc run this ****, while you hold the fort down, you'd get 3x as many people, and 100% higher satisfaction. Me and Inui get bored of dealing with **** that you love to handle. Ask him.

You need to learn your boundaries. You'd actually be a strong asset to our region, rather than just that guy who ****ed cot4. >_>

while a bit brash lol, i appreciate the constructive criticism.

Though the beginning you flat out contradict urself lol.

"As a director, you're the ****. Not many people can touch on that."

"As a host, and as a tournament director, you're pure trash."

lol

I've been learning more and more about the actual running process. I've hosted plenty of fine events. You've been to 3 of my tourneys if I'm not mistaken.
CoT4 - lol. I learned a lot from this. I flat out wasn't prepared from the amount of people that came.
CoT3 - My fault for this was relying too much on Tio. I encountered a terrible glitch in Tio and it wasn't able to make the singles bracket and I had to make it by hand. Whatever, not a bad set back, about an hour or so. The Melee day of CoT3 ran perfect, and you weren't there for that lol.
Some biweekly I forget which - No problems here from what I remember?

While not accepting help at CoT4 is a lie and some rumor that people started, in general I do run events more on my own which I want to start be more open with. I guess it's because in the past the people I have depended on have failed on me.

Bottom line, come to SatS2 and help show me how to run it

A director overall. You made the floor layouts and everything look visually great. You always pick great settings, etc. as a TOURNAMENT director, all 3 events I've attended took FOREVER. You have no ability to get things done properly. You take forever with seeding, and in that sense, seed poorly.

If you allow me+2 people of my choosing to seed, and then between my people, you, and your people call matches, the tournament will be ahead of schedule, which will leave more time for friendlies. This makes tournament goers a lot happier when they leave. Which makes people wanna come back. You only have 2 weeks before this happens, I imagine you'll need the hype.

Dunk tank ftw. I totally wanna get... Inui... ew. I have to go shower, brb

I call Shanus' bluff. :D
Probably. Between girlfriend visiting, and probably my college friends coming down, I doubt I'd make it. Being that it'll probably be the last time I see a lot of them since we are all moving our separate ways, I need to prioritize :p

But hey, I did fly to Beyond the Limit in Philly from Rhode Island so I can't get any **** from people :p
