Of course, importance isn't the only factor being placed into the game. Look at Rosalina and Greninja, they aren't very important in their franchise's. Uniqueness also plays a factor, which is something we've been seeing alot of with this Smash's newcomers, and quite frankly, Chrom doesn't have that much to offer that Marth and Ike don't already have.

Wes would be nice.

There should be an Assist Trophy based off one of the non-generic Pokemon characters, like Prof Oak. or the Zero One from Pokemon Snap.

Maybe even the Grovyle from PMD2 if you want to stretch things. After all, it's a character and not a generic Grovyle.

Yeah it bombed so bad. Awakening was pretty much the series' last legs if it didn't get the turnaround it got, which is why it leaned on accessibility (compared to other FE games) and experimentation rather than tacticians and long term strategizing which repelled everyone but the dedicated fans.

Awakening's biggest sales factor is, though, word of mouth. You'll often see it considered the best 3DS game. (Which I disagree with HEAVILY)

Why people want Anna in Smash: uniqueness

Levin sword, Lance, Pegasus Knight, every item (Merchant)... there's a lot to work with, and it would be much more appealing than something like:
Up B: Aether
B: Shield Breaker
Side B: Quick Blade
Down B: Counter

FE13 sold 1.28 million copies. They were going to can FE as a series if it didn't sell 200,000 copies. While the first mentioned number isn't a ton, it's the best FE has done in a while.

I'd love to play as Wes from Colosseum. He could blow things up with bombs/weapons, throw snag balls at opponents, summon his partners Espeon/Umbreon, fly around, riding that badass hoverbike, act all smug, and other things for moves...

A Pokemon Ranger would be cool as well...

Ah, I don't think we're going to get much spin-off representation anyway. Which is a shame because Pokemon is much more than the mainlines games... Hope I'm wrong though...

.54 Million Total in sales for Path of Radiance as of May 2014.

Could have done much better, but honestly that's alright in my book.
That being said it was a massive critical success.

Obviously Sakurai's main goal in Smash 4 is to add unique characters. But who is unique enough to make the cut? What new mechanic does each character bring to the table? Which characters don't deserve to come back since they are not unique, or what needs to happen to make them unique? This will hopefully help everyone decide who Sakurai may go with in terms of unique characters, and who he might just kick to the curb.

The less I want to have Chrom playable, the more likely I think he is. It just makes me sad that the most likely Fire Emblem roster by far is: Marth, Ike, Chrom. I love Fire Emblem, but I don't like the fighting style the previous characters have brought, they never interested me, and that certainly won't change if they do it a 4th time.

I actually see three reasonings.
-She's not a Lord ["Unique"] (Tactician)
-She's a Black Mage ["Unique"] (:4Zelda
-She's from Awakening ["Recent"] (Tactician, Chrom, Lucina)

Only problem is that she's completely optional, which describes the chances of her. An optional, unnecessary, and not really deserving of star power.

I agree with this sentiment. Uniqueness is merely an aspect attributable to a characters inclusion.

200K is the minimal sale, eh? Thats really hilarious to me, very very hilarious considering all the times people keep saying "Nintendo shouldn't make a Star Fox & F-Zero cuz dey don't sell!"
