If Shulk does make the cut, then I'll be glad to play as him, but I won't have a childish fit if he doesn't. My most wanted newcomer was Mega Man, who was missing in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, anyway.

Shulk's Final Smash will definitely not involve using the Monado to see the future.

Yeah, I feel pretty satisfied.

How do I put this, it's sort of like wanting Donkey Kong Country for Christmas but you instead get Super Metroid. You didn't get what you wanted, but you still feel very satisfied. In fact, my support the character has died down a lot since this reveal. But on a brighter note, at least it will give me priority with focusing on other aspects. Like for example, It'll allow me to try and forge a foundation for the future Greninja metagame, and I can focus more in trying to rally support for Shulk.

I feel like I'm one of the only ones who want characters based on who they are, rather than how they would play. Greninja is similar to Takamaru, but he's not Takamaru, he's just a frog. I guess that's why I've been disappointed with the newcomers so far, yet still feel very interested in playing as them.

You're overreacting, Mewtwo and Jiggs are both very likely to get in. I don't see either one going.


I don't understand this mindset. Why do we need need to have 'balanced representation' amidst the roster. I can guarantee you Sakurai isn't picking characters that way. He never has.


We got: Monk (Lucario), Ninja (Greninja), Psychic (Mewtwo)

Seems like a dream team of Pokemon choices along the Dragon, Puffball, and Electric mouse.

Why are people complaining? The Pokemon roster is among the most diverse thus far.

Many people say that Zelda has to match Mario and Pokemon in characters, I'm refuting that point, so I don't really get what your saying.

I feel like I'm one of the only ones who want characters based on who they are, rather than how they would play. Greninja is similar to Takamaru, but he's not Takamaru, he's just a frog. For me, it's a mix of both. I have to see something interesting be done with that character to keep me invested in wanting to play as them. Most of the new characters, sans Wii Fit Trainer, have done that in spades. Megaman's moves are an awesome homage to his series. Not to mention he's got a keep away fighting style, which is a little new to Smash. Rosalina can spread damage from pretty much any part of the screen. Little Mac's is a complete monster on the ground, but a joke in the air, that's pretty fun to me. And then there's Greninja, who seems to have the best balance among the new characters. I think he can work like a jack of all trades.

Though I do like those characters outside of Smash, which is icing on the cake.

For me, it goes both ways.

On the one hand, there are characters I really want in the game. On the other hand, I know that if I support someone with no importance or are destined to be a clone, I know it would be a lost cause.

Then there's the characters I supported that got in, like Sonic, but ended up having awful movesets.

Not terribly much to say. Been a likely character for a long time, and Galaga just reminds us that Namco is working on the game.

I think it's a great idea if it happens. There's also a possibility it could open the door for Wario to incorporate more of his Wario Land-style gameplay while the crazy, skitzy playstyle can move to whatever character we get from Rhythm Heaven. The game is practically the musical extension of WarioWare.

I say it's ninjastic, and it'll probably be top tier in both Pokemon and Smash. (Well, it's already up there in pokemon but not sure about smash.) His smashes seem good unlike Sonic's. Also he has great aerial combat it seems.

I shall join you. Based on the fact that Palutena is all but confirmed, I can focus all my chi on Shulk. I think he's in based on that latest leak.

Actually, with that said. Lets talk about Shulk.

What do you guys think of him?

Shulk is my most wanted newcomer, more so than any of the confirmed ones. I understand the logic against this, but I don't beleive both him and Isaac will get in. I think they both have about equal chances.

The thing is, I could see Shulk getting in, with a stage, and a wonderful selection of music, but I could also see him just being a trophy (not even an assist trophy).

That being said, I hope for his inclusion because Xenoblade is one of my favorite games ever, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a playable character that we won't know about until the game is released.

Greninja seems dangerously close to having the same KO potential as Sonic, just with more interesting specials. I hope not, though, because I really want to have fun with it.

So time to start from scratch.
I'm rethinking a retro character, as Takamaru was the "obvious" choice, but as we can see the obvious choice is hardly the right one.
I'm considering cutting a few characters also. Always a touchy subject.
A sixth Mario character is very possible as well, so I may think about that.
So I'll have to think about this.

I do agree that the animation of the shadow looks similar to that of a fighter's.

Here's an idea how a Rhythm Heaven character could function: the character can be predominantly rhythm (obviously) and combo based. What this means is that his attacks -- just going to assume the Choir Men / Marshal for now -- will have one set power, but if you do them in succession with certain timing, his attacks will be stronger. Just randomly mashing attacks won't maximize the potential of the character, but stringing together certain combos in rhythm will result in greater damage. Think DK's Final Smash without the ability to whif. There will be visual and audio clues if you're timing the attacks correctly. If you miss, there will be a little 'pan' sound like when you miss a step in the "Night Fever" minigame; but if you're timing things correctly a small 'click' jingle will play alongside each attack, and landing the strongest attack to close a chain -- like a side tilt or Smash attack -- will result in a 'clap' sound. His specials can make use of various props from the Rhythm Heaven series.

If anything, I could assume that because they are strictly using Arcade references, Retro Pac man could be an AT.

re. Shulk: I don't have any connection to the dude but I love Xenoblade's OST so I'd want him in so I can listen to that glorious music.

re. Retro Characters: I'm kinda starting to doubt one, mostly because I don't see Sakurai working on new games for a while given the situation with how injured his arms and hands are. If we do get one, I'm starting to think Balloon Fighter is a serious contender. He's more well known than Bubbles, Sable and Takamaru, and he's significantly easier to implement than Mach Rider or Excitebiker.

re. Rhythm Heaven: I think a rhythm based fighter would be really unique and I personally think that it's a genius idea for Sakurai to include.

I may redownload the roster maker and make an updated one. I must say I believe that latest leak with Shulk and the choir boys. So they'll probably be on my roster.

I'm torn between Paper Mario (a personal want) and Bowser Jr (who is more likely in my eyes).
