The size of the file will change if you delete or insert data, but not if you overwrite, which is what you'll want to do. I know the hex editing program HxD will warn you if you're about to change the file size, but I don't know what program you're using.

Orly? Ok, thanks. Nice to know it's at least possible ahead of time. (Light at the end of the tunnel.)

Edit: Btw, Dolphin dumped me .PNGs. But GodFed wrote in one of his texture hacking posts, here, that it dumps targa files (.tga). Is there a setting that I'm not finding for this somewhere?
Just go with it. You can use IrfanView to convert to targa when you're done editing (or if you're photoshop, you can do it directly)

I figured out that with Dolphin 4.0, if you use OpenGL for graphics, you get .tgas for texture dumps. If you use Direct3D11, you'll get PNGs.

Can someone tell me if these hacks change something about gameplay (hitstun, damage, knockback, etc)? I downloaded the purple firefox and marth's shadow sword hacks but I don't want anything gameplay wise to be changed from vanilla melee.

Hey did you had any progress removing the dust effects? I'm really interested in this. Where can I find the EfCoData.dat offsets description?

Ah, man! I knew in the back of my head that someone else was interested in this too, so I wanted to check back through this thread to find the post again, but I've just been so busy I forgot. Sorry about that. >.<

Thanks, achilles.

And yeah, Goxplex, if you have any questions post in that thread and I'll try to help you out. I had a lot of success with it after I figured out a few things.

Textures

12D00-134FF - Falcon Punch _14
13500-136FF - Falcon Punch Wings _14
13700-146FF - Falcon Punch Fire _5 with transparency
I am attempting to make a pink falcon punch, and Ive followed the guide of how to do the 777 and CF## etc. codes, so now the extra particles and such are pink, but I cant figure out how to actually change the color of the FALCON. or any of the fire moves he has... is that pertaining to the cosmetic elemental stuff?

They're textures.

Owch, I know im probably asking a dumb question, but I can definitely read. I put that in quotes of my original question. Care to say how I would go about changing their colors then?
Have you dumped the textures for it already? Or if not, do you know how to using Dolphin? Once you have them, you can edit them in an image editor (adjust the hue so they look like the pink you want). Then convert the textures to TPL format, and put the textures into EfCaData.dat at the offsets (the addresses where the texture starts) that Lanceinthepants showed (this thread can help with that).

I don't know if you've done parts of this already, but if so, which part are you stuck on?

Found out that the ring around Fox/Falco when he shoots a laser is the same texture as when he charges his up-b. I know how to change its color for Up-B but not for the laser =/

So im trying to change falco phantasm color, but im not sure about what are the color values. The original post about changing the values relies on the guys (i think by noob?) images, but the images are taken down. I know the offset is 1ec40. And i tried looking for the color header 070707 but the header for it is 070007. If anyone could tell me what values to change to change the color i would greatly appreciate it. I was trying to make them i pink, but ended up with a teal.

I've been working on documenting Mario and Luigi's effects.
For Mario I've been able to change the effects for his tornado, smoke and particle effects for his fireball, particles related to using his cape, and effects that show up when his up B hits an enemy.

Luigi's tornado and effects related to his fireball can be changed. There are some offsets that I have no clue what they do.

And here's a Christmas colored Luigi fireball

And here are downloads for the tornado effects if anyone is interested.

So, I have this spreadsheet: Effects Texture Locations (& some random stuff here)

Tabbed for different files. I'm still planning on adding to it, at least for characters.

Now obviously, effect textures and effect colors are really closely related, and any time somebody would want to work with one part, they might like to think about working with the other as well. Could definitely make some cool stuff by combining such hacks I think. So maybe we should think of a way to combine these two databases. Maybe we should just put it all in spreadsheets.

Hm I'm trying to do this too, but can't figure this out. If its 4248 format then how would i get a magenta color? what values would we change? Thanks for any help. I don't think I'm getting this 100%.

@ Didact25 Didact25 not exactly sure what you mean, but this is in the 1st post

EDIT:If your're lazy you could download these
https://www.dropbox.com/home/!darkness project/Fox/Magenta Laser
https://www.dropbox.com/home/!darkness project/Falco/Magenta Lasers
I labeled them magenta laser a while ago, but I think they also have magenta phantasm/illusion
Yeah i saw that and when i started this and i don't think im getting anywhere cause it wont work for me.
And thanks but those links don't work, the files don't exist.
If you or someone could guide me that'd be awesome.
1. I want magenta phantasm along with my magenta laser(that was easy).
2. I went here https://www.msu.edu/course/phl/490/webtalk/docs/colors.html and looked up magenta. 4248 format follows the RRGGBB format so i figured that means magenta = #FF00FF. Other sites said FF00FF is magenta/fuchsia so i thought i was right.
3. I replace the values 07 00 07, the "color 2" to FF 00 FF(magenta) accordingly.
4. I go here and follow nube's post so i can get the transparent effect, like the original phantasm.
5. ??? because in nube's post he says to get transparent effect you set the first RRGGBB value ( im assuming which is "color 2" in this picture) to color of choice. His pictures and most of other texture mods are all taken down.
6. Set second RRGGBB value ( again, i assume "color 1" in the picture) to FF FF FF to get transparent effect.
7. Now mine looks like this http://puu.sh/eeoPx/3097f4281f.png
8. In game however, my phantasm clones are completely gone. http://puu.sh/eeont/3146075221.png
9. ?
Again, if someone could help with this, it'd be greatly appreciated.

So the format actually doesn't start at 1EC40 but rather 1EC48. Basically my fault for lazy documentation, I just recorded what line things started on.

Ah ok, But 1EC48? I can't seem to find that?
Sounds like you're looking for a line numbered 1EC48. Offsets and the numbering you're looking at is per-digit-pair (per-byte) in the file, not per-line. And one line = 0x10 (which is actually 16 bytes) which is why the lines have intervals at 1EC40, 1EC50, 1EC60, etc. So if 1EC40 is the beginning of the line, then 1EC48 would be half way down it. If you start clicking around in the file, you'll see "Offset: ___" in the bottom left of the program (assuming you're using HxD) which tells you the exact position you're at in the file. You can also see numbering across the top of the columns, which, if you add that to the line you're at, also gives you the position (i.e. 1EC40 + 08 = 1EC48). Hope that makes sense.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. But a lot of Falco uploads that I've seen are using the default orange on the inside of his jacket. This was a 8x8 texture on Fox, but on Falco it isn't...

Offset: 00007C00 - 80 48 1F FF F7 87 2C FF FF FF FF FF 3F 80 00 00 42 48
(Red text are the two RGB values you need to change.)

I just need to find the hex values to fix the fire fox that I'm trying to mod. I tried finding them, but all I can find are the values I already edited. I'm trying to make the fire fox blue, but parts of the fire fox is still in its original colors: http://i.imgur.com/xVDSBgI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fB9guAl.jpg
Any idea where the offsets are to edit the effects anyone?

Got some more documentation, Kirby this time.

Sadly I haven't found the front of the dash attack, so it looks like this

I might look for it more later but I'm probably going to move on to someone else.

If anyone wants download links I can put some up.

I'm fairly certain that both of these elements that you guys are having trouble with changing are colours already applied to the textures. I might be wrong, but I think I've seen them before when dumping textures from Dolphin.

Kirby Dash Attack Textures.zip

Start dashing with Kirby --> pause game --> Delete all textures that have been dumped for GALE01 --> resume game --> do a dash attack --> pause at the end --> look at textures in GALE01 folder.

In case anyone doesn't know how to get textures for a specific action.

Yeah, it's an _9 texture. I haven't been able to find it's location in either PlKb.dat or EfKbData.dat though. It's the first time I've looked for an _9 texture though so I'm probably doing something wrong.
