Chain-grabbing with Ness

One more move for us Ness mainers to perfect in order to raise Ness to super-tier ;)

By now, we all know Ness is all about his grabbing. His ENTIRE head grabs the opponent, and he freakin' DIVES at them in order to do so. So, how can we take advantage of this even more?

Chain-grab. Grab the opponent, spam attack, but no directions in order to stack damage. Now... Grab them again :)

It's highly useful on many flatter stages, as well as some slanted spots on maps (I'll be working on an entire list, so don't be angry at me for merely telling you it, "works" I'm working on it!)

When is the optimal time to do this? Surprisingly enough, when the opponent is at lower percentages and close to the edge. Catch them with just enough room to grab once more, and then DROP them off the edge without throwing in any direction whatsoever, and now you catch them with any number of moves.

Do they drop fast? PK fire, followed up by a PK flash, the timing provided by the fire is uncanny.. Are they more likely to up-B ASAP? Spike the bastage. Are they going to perfectly sweet spot the edge from below? PKT1 and it'll spike them off the wall. Can't catch them with it? Yo-yo spike. Are they jumping JUST onto the edge? Grab em again, and if you time it right (before they touch the ground again) you'll keep them from getting their second jump back, now all you do is time your ledge-hog right and they're gone (Unless of course if they fly, in which case you should be spiking them anyway ;))

Another great time to try this is when they're at 110-115% ****it, they're too low to instantly throw off... but my throw is devastating, and I love it when they loop around me and then fly off the stage for no apparent reason! Here's your fix,chain-grab them. Even with them struggling away at the controller you'll be able to get in 6-7 headbutts, that's 5-6%, then grab them again! Three successful grabs later and voila, you kill-grabbed them at 115, instead of the dreaded 130, where everyone is wary of Ness' grab :p

My favorite trick: Putting Lucas mainers in their place, right below Ness.

Grab lucas near the edge, let him drop, and as he's about to save himself, absorb his PKT1, or spike him. (If he DI's away from you in order to counter this, you can shoot the head of his PKT1 with your own, cancelling it and letting him plummet to his doom).

Tether-grab? No sir, PKT1 assures this.

Does he think he's going to zap-jump? TOO BAD, HE STILL CAN'T ESCAPE. SPIKE HIM! >:D

Ness cannot chain grab with releases. The opponent can DI then spot dodge.

As for letting them drop off the edge this is pretty much common Knowledge.

thanks couldn't find anything in e360's list of Ness techs ;P

as for the spot-dodging out of the grab, you only go for it when you know what type of player they are silly ;D grab them if they like to open up with attacks or shield/roll/jump out of the grab.

As for the dropping info I couldn't find anything on e360's list for that either, of course I didn't search from top to bottom too diligently, but this is duly noted.

****. You gave my hopes up. :p I was thinking, "Chaingrabbing with Ness? You gotta be kidding." If you could provide an actual video of this, then I'd be all over it like white on rice.

Actually he does. It's the same one he had in Melee, but it's stage specific, only works at like 5% or less, and only goes for about 3 grabs

I'd explain it if I felt like it.

Guys, I pulled off a chaingrab with Ness last night. <_< I'm dead serious. I literally thought of this topic when I did it, too. XD I was fighting my friend and someone else that had joined. Eventually it just came down to me and my friend. I was Ness, he was Bowser, this was on Final Destination. I didn't keep landing it, but I did it. Of course it could just be because Bowser is heavy and that he had 0%. But yeah, I did that last night and I wanted to save the video but you know how this game is. They either let you save it or they don't let you save it. I'm kind of getting tired of that, too as I had some good stuff but it wouldn't let me save.

On the side note, last night I was Ness, my friend Falcon and this other guy playing Falcon. I baired this guys Falcon and my friend faired him with The Knee! It was so awesome how this dudes Falcon landed in between two awesome attacks! XD Again I couldn't save that!

All of Ness' throws send people to the air, so unless they don't DI, don't attack, don't air dodge or jump... you can't chain grab.

To clarify, I'm not talking about f,b,d,or uthrow. I'm talking about grabbing, pummeling, then letting go and grabbing again. Chances are your opponent is DIing/mashing as fast as possible so you don't pummel him to the kill throw range (110 and up, depending upon your position on the stage).

As soon as you let go, you dash grab. Then, you start pummeling again. If they're at the edge, Ness has just about the most imba edge guard capabilities in the game, USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Drop them, and depending on how they approach you've got a number of options, pk jump with the b-stick if they jump immediately back on, sit at the edge and dtilt, yoyo-spike. Don't come in the thread crying about "no sir you can't ever possibly do this" just watch how your opponent plays, and use this as another part of Ness' already amazing arsenal of moves. Stack the damage, and death throw all these nubs who dare think Ness isn't a force to be reckoned with :)

Also fear if you plan on maining lucas you better watch out for Ness mains, Ness' CG against lucas is worse than marth's (and he actually has a throw that kills you after stacking that damage ;))

Tourney coming up on the 15th, I'll be sure to raise Ness' "official tier rank" to B :D

Ness can't chain grab Lucas. Ness can't chain grab at all. Except on sheik from melee and that doesn't work for too long. Also it's stage specific.

On stages that have a very small platform with a wall behind it (Princess Peach's castle for example, right under the highest tower), if Ness stto on the edge of the platform with his back to the wall behind him, you could grab people, back throw them, grab them again, and keep bthrowing them until like 30ish I think.

In Brawl, I think it only works on Green Greens and Hyrule temple lol.

Yes tyr, you're the greatest smash player to ever live, and I couldn't possibly compare to you or even your grandmother.

On a more serious note, does anyone here feel like actually trying anything I said, or are you all in love with the match-up chart and theorycrafting?

Until you start throwing down some big numbers in tourneys, or produce some videos supporting "Ness can't chaingrab, ever, period" rather than babybroing on the forums, (trolling takes some thought, babybroing is what most people refer to as trolling, there's an XBOX HUEG difference, but half of you imbeciles wouldn't understand) your opinion is nothing and as such shall be ignored.

Btw, e360 if you've got a friend (non-wifi) who likes to play lucas that you can actually test this out on, have at it and come back and tell these morons the results, thanks ;P

This is what I figured it would be... you can do it at Corneria, also, with some additional spacing (provided they don't catch on and tech)

The whole release grabbing idea has been tested over and over.
Lucas cannot be release grabbed by Ness. They can just DI then spot dodge.
Instead of getting another person to test it look at this.

As for Ness only marth and Pokemon trainer can release grab him.

No, it's not the rpeptetive bouncing thing. At low percents, they wont even bounce off the wall at all. They just get pushed back into Ness' grab range.
