Lately, I've been seeing people bring either, hats, plushies, shirts/pants, even blankets, representing their character(s). Not to sound rude at all, but is this, "cool"? Is this he new fad now as far as the Brawl Community?

Am I out of the loop now? Or is this some hardcore nerd fad? (Once again, trying not to sound rude...)

If I would ever go to a tournament, I'd bring something along. I dunno maybe a PPG umbrella.
Might as well have a lot of fun if you're planning on having fun.

I would bring some TWEWY pins if I knew whoever made them. They look cool...

I also would bring a blue beret, but since I don't play Brawl much, it wouldn't be for a Brawl character. :3

I wouldn't take items to a tournament but I'd take a Werekill home from one.

And lock it in my basement.

You're right. I don't care about expanding our community anyway.

Also, don't give me that "LOL NINTENDO LITTLE KIDS" BS. Somehow comic book characters shooting lasers and explosions is much more serious business, right?

I'm not saying Nintendo = little kids.

I'm just saying trying to look all tough guy and mature when you're playing a Nintendo game is ********. If people enjoy their Nintendo themed merchandise then that's their business. At least they have balls enough to be themselves and not care what people think.

The true mark of being boss, not worrying what some random mopes think about you.

It's just people bringing personal stuff, who freaking cares. Do you honestly think that someone is going to not go to a tournament or not want to be a part of the community because someone brings a blanket to a tournament? Give me a break.

A-****ing-men.

Seriously, it's not like the Smash community is going to be made up of a bunch of bad***es who are all tough and hardcore. Let's not forget that they are going to an event to play a video game competitively. Which is perfectly fine and awesome, but it's still inherently nerdy. If you're afraid of people looking nerdy because it won't be "cool" enough, I think you picked the wrong hobby.

Even so let's not forget how ****ing stupid sports fans can get. But they've clearly driven people off from their community, since sports and their fans are so looked down on.

Oh wait.

As someone who's put together multiple cosplays and gone to two different conventions in said cosplays, I can vouch for the fact that doing that can be incredibly fun. I can imagine doing something like that on a smaller scale would be fun too.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why people put "IT'S NOT COOL ENOUGH" so much higher up on their list of priorities than "I/someone else wants to do it".

...And then someone brings something related to a show you don't like. You just rage at them in your head and pretend they don't exist.

Or is that just me?

All I'm saying is don't pretend that no one is deterred from groups of people wearing Lucario hats. None of us are bothered by it, obviously, but don't act like society isn't turned off by it. Whether that is right or wrong is almost irrelevant, because it is what it is.

It's just people bringing personal stuff, who freaking cares. Do you honestly think that someone is going to not go to a tournament or not want to be a part of the community because someone brings a blanket to a tournament? Give me a break.
Absolutely, 100%, without a doubt:
Yes. I see it all the time. If not at Smash tournaments, at local gaming clubs. It's real. It happens. People are like that. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

I always take a knife and since I use Sheik and she has a knife I guess I can claim that as representing my character.

In all seriousness, if I would start going to tournies I would probably buy throwing needles just for lols.

I won't pretend that people aren't deterred by that sort of things; but on the contrary, whether it's right or wrong is totally relevant. Just because society doesn't like it doesn't mean you should just say "Oops, oh well, guess I can't do that," it means you should go out and do what you want to do and show society that it's stupid, or at the very least ignore it in favor of what you want to do.

I mean, what if back in the Sixties in the United States everyone fighting for civil rights just decided that it was irrelevant whether or not it was right for minorities to have rights because society didn't want it? Just because something is widespread doesn't mean you shouldn't bother considering if it's right or not.

Well quite frankly I'd say it's a good thing that no good mother****ers like this are deterred from such things because of that. These are the people that make society the garbage that it is.

Again, all I'm saying is don't pretend that it isn't real. Don't get ahead of yourself.

I've been making my own Yoshi hat.

A pink one.

And I fully intend to wear it to every tournament.

Learn to deal with it, it's not going away any time soon.

But who cares? It's stupid that that happens, but you can say that about every group of people ever.

Seriously, haters always gonna hate.

This appears to be becoming a thread of hate, i'm not trying to be offensive at all, I'm just wondering why some of the community does it. Is it to get into their inner child? To represent THERE side of the community? Just because? Once again, trying not to be offensive if I am.

Well, you answered your question (I think there's a question there) in your own post. Looking like a droopy-eyed armless child in the name of football is socially acceptable.

I think people should dress like what they are.

The more people stop pretending they aren't ***holes the better!

Where people get NOTHING.
I started reading this thread and was like -___-;
Then I saw Teran has his old avi and all was right again.

This is a geeky/nerdy whatever you want to call it kind of hobby. We dissect the game as far as needed to understand how to do better in it. We figure out frame data. Hell, we figure out data period!

Don't worry about whether it's cool or it's a fad. Cool people are the ones who do what they do regardless of what anyone else is doing. That's what makes them cool to begin with.

Edit: Melomaniacal lost the game.

Smash is a series designed for fanboys and fangirls of certain characters. Most people play a certain character because they love that character not just in smash. Thats just what fans do sometimes.

I agree with every up until the last part (before the edit).

Who and what is cool is decided by society, not by yourself. I'm sorry, but carrying a PPG umbrella is not considered cool. Maybe you think it's cool, but the vast majority disagrees. So, we can all get along, respect each other, and even consider ourselves cool, but step outside of the tournament venue and take a walk and that disappears.

I constantly lose the game.

Then gee whatever happened to clothing being a part of self expression?
It still is, and always will be, for some people.
Although, in my opinion, if you really want to express yourself via clothing, you should be making your own. Something about the "man, this other person's work really defines me as a person" mindset doesn't agree with me.
