Mines are on common/char_bust_tex.
I made Mario fully transparent but it showed on the CSS. Then I won a game and it didn't show, so they are the Victory Portraits.
The ones that i found must have been the victory portraits because i replaced mario's ones with sonic's one and when mario won it crashed O.o

Dude, being able to easily edit the character portraits would be perfect! I highly look forward to that.

Oh and about my problems editing the wolf, I find that when I say no to all textures, it does make it to the very last texture that it wasnt detecting before. I think I will just try to re-extract it from the original .pac file and start over.
Hey Malumvolo, I found what's causing the bug with Wolf.
Don't modify any of the WolfMonitor and it will work :) It seems it's a bug of tplx. ASH 2.1 will try to fix it (but being a bug of tplx MAYBE the texture will show different on game).

BTW, I have a beta of ASH 2.1 here that is compatible with Ganondorf's hands :) Now that it seems that every character will work, it won't ask for normal textures. It will add them always. It will be a bit slower (only 1 or 2 seconds), but it will be fully. It fixes also Wolf, Fox and Falco's bugs. I'll try to make it compatible with Sonic +2 textures and then release it.

Has anyone made the leader of the Squirtle Squad in this? I know it's just adding glasses, but he looks bad@$$ nonetheless. Pics if you have.

Awesome stuff, el_refugio, thanks. Definitely looking forward to that; I'll be sure to give you a heads-up here whether I find any other errors that can have fixes squeezed into 2.1 before it's release. (:

I hope you fixed the many bugs on sonic. He's a pain to manually hex and thanks maltes.

I remember when ]EE[ was looking for these they asked me if I knew where they were. I did a little digging and found three different locations of the same pictures. NONE of them turned out to be the real character selection portaits. It was a little while after that for someone to find them on the NTSC disk, not quite sure who it was.

I'll do a little digging and see if I can find those old conversations. If the NTSC file is completely missing from the PAL disk, it's possible it uses one of the other places.
I don't have a PAL disk, but in both NTSC discs they were under System>Common5.pac. I found them after nearly 2 days of nonstop looking...

Twice compressed (so you need lz77), each character with their own .bin file.

The guide I wrote has details. It's just a rough draft, as I stopped working on it when all hell broke loose. The link is here

Thank you for answering Raganook.

Main problem is that in my PAL disk common5.pac doesn't have any BIN file inside (so it's smaller than the USA common5_en.pac).

I'd just be happy with a program that would automatically LZ77 compress a file, It doesn't take that much time to do manually, but it would be amazing if someone made one

But anyway, thanks for the amazing program. Hope 2.1 works with sonic's mipmapped +2 textures, it's annoying hexing those yourself.

Awww... I found a bug with ASH 2.1 and Sonic's mipmaps. I fixed it, now it should be perfect checking mipmaps. ASH 2.2 will be released in some minutes along some small bugfixes.

D'oh, all right. I figured something odd was going on with Sonic; tried to burn some stuff with him yesterday, but to no avail. (Ganondorf works perfectly, though. (: )

Can i remind you that Sonic's iris has funny mipmaps.
You only need to add on the half size and the quarter size. If you add on the eighth size then it will be too long. You will then need to chop the extra lines of hex off if you add the last size.
Since this is a hassle it is alot easier to just not add the last size.

Hope i helped ;)

Can someone explain what ASH actually does? My interest in texture hacking has returned and I'm curious as too what it actually does.

It extracts all the textures from a .pac.

It also hexs all of the textures back into the .pac and can make a .pcs.

You can extract the textures then edit them then create a .pcs and .pac which you can then put onto your backup which will allow you to play with your eddited texture in-game.

Yes I knew that.

But I'm still having problems with Sonic's eye. I made a Sonic with red eyes and they look strange while moving the camera (like if he had four eyes). And the mipmaps are made this way (only the half and quarter added to it), I don't know what can be happening.
And also Toon Link's face, that has a palette but is, in fact, a normal texture without palette. I think I found the way it works, so I'll post my results here later.

I can't really tell you when ASH 2.2 will be ready :(

Ok then, thats like if you use ASH 2.0 on Sonic, his first texture loses the +2 on it and then the second texture gains the +2. It gets messed up.

That's because the first texture is not a +2.
And it doesn't matter, because we are talking about the eye, it has nothing to do with the first textures. It's something related to the mipmaps. Tomorrow I'll continue testing characters, I hope Ganondorf's hands work fine, then I'll search for more +1/+2 textures with mipmaps.

Toon Link bug is fixed :) It uses a strange mipmap texture that needs special treatment.

Ganondorf was fine in your v2.1; the hands I altered came out perfectly, so he was good to go from that get-go. :chuckle:

Hopefully you're able to find what's causing all this Sonic trouble; I'm anxious to try out some more Sonic stuff. (:

I know, but in 2.2 I changed the mipmaps check. It was a very dirty code and fast solution in 2.1, but 2.2 has a very clean way to check and add mipmaps. So I had to test it again.
I'm still having trouble with Sonic eyes.

Have you made ever a Sonic modification? I mean, did you modify his eyes WITHOUT ASH and it worked correctly? Tomorrow I'll try some things maybe I'll get the final version.

Finally! I finally found how paletted textures work in a TPL file. Pixels are saved in 8x8 squares, I didn't know that. This will fix Sonic's eyes I hope :)

No, it wasn't fine ;) If you add detail you will see that the texture show weird in the game.

It will be fixed soon!

^ Ah... I was afraid of that w/Ganondorf's hands...
Good thing mine just needed to erase all his textures, then. :p

And Sweet; hope to see the new ASH soon. (:

Well let me check my sonic folder.

I've only done 13 sonic textures. And the eyes worked fine on all of them (to my knowledge).

Heres some pictures of the eyes i have hexed:
Metal Sonic

Super Sonic

Shadow the Hedgehog

Darkspine Sonic (the eyes were meant to be completly transparent, i have fixed this now)

Yes yes yes, I know. I asked you that because I was using the same method as you, and it always worked uncorrectly. But finally I found why ASH made different mipmaps, so don't worry, you won't have to hex anymore :)

You are using the ]EE[ method, right? The one with half and quarter.tpl. It works because you must create new TPL files, and TPLx already creates the 8x4 squares that gave me so many problems.
ASH 2.2 won't need these files, it will create the mipmaps automatically. It's a very hard task to do, but I think I can do it :)

Pharrox, would you consider using this as a buisness opportunity? I mean people could send you their Wii, a Blank CD, with a fee you could Mod Wii's, upload your character skins, and send it back? I would surely do this if the price wasn't outstanding?

I don't think pharrox wanted to be sued by nintendo. He would be making profit off of their stuff.
