Go play SSB64 for a few minutes.

See that LONG, ranged POWERFUL weapon? The pink, sword type thing?

Yep, that's the beam sword.

Why did they make it short and crappy?

Why did they ditch it's original sound fx?

The world may never know.

The beam sword was the best weapon in 64, 2nd only to the hammer.

I think the beam sword should be returned to it's former glory,

A weapon that people WANTED to pick up OVER a Pokéball,

A weapon that really gave you the upper hand.

Sure, it stretched in Melee,

but it never quite reached the length it was in SSB64.

Yep, I'm off to go play that.

Yeah I was quite upset wehn I was the Melee beam sword. I was like WTF IS THAT A BEAM SWORD? *Puts items off forever* Yeah they should fix it. Same goes for the Ray gun. It was alot faster and stronger in SSB64. And it looked so softy and touchable in Melee. Those 2 items should be fixed but I dont really care about items anymore.

Heaven forbid that they changed it for a reason. Maybe because it was comparable to the Hammer as you put it.

the weapon was probably too good in the 64 version. the hammer is great but you can't jump well. the beam sword either needs to not be so great or have a downside they should make it better though, it needs to be able to strike multiple times in rapid succesion. And the home run bat should be a bit longer.

hrb is good enough.

the gun needs a sharper look, old sfx, not a thick beem coming out

the sword knocks a LITTLE bit more knockback and a tiny tiny bit more dmg

and uhhh yea

I would HATE it if they didn't have items in brawl, because there ARE
people who like them, and there are also people who DEPEND on them.

Anyway, there needs to be a REASON to pick up a beam sword, because
there wasn't really any in Melee. Beam swords were rather unnecessary.

Home run bats, however, have not changed much, and can seriously
define the winner.

Maybe Fair, Nair, and bair should be beamsword attacks. That way, the beamsword is practicly even with normal attacks (utilt, usmash, dtilt, dsmash, uair, dair)

Yes, the Ray Gun was much better in 64. Maybe not as flashy, but it looked cool as a simple curvy bolt, and gave a nice *bam* as it hit your opponent.

It was so much fun juggling my opponents with the ray gun in ssb64. I was actually quite disapointed with the one in melee because it was weaker, slower and you couldn't really juggle much.

The beam sword in ssb64 was like the best weapon in the game because of its reach and power. In melee, it was just plain crap compared to the ssb64 version.

Most of the items in 64 were better.

Hammer did 30% AND lasted much longer,
in Melee it only plays the song twice and does 22%.

The beamsword had much more range and did much more damage in 64.

The fan did more damage.

Pokeballs were worse in 64.

The homerun bat stayed the same.

The bumper was EVIL. Bring it back!

Boxes and barrels used to be deadly killing machines.

The ray gun did more damage, was faster, and sent enemies at a more vertical
angle. It was impossible to DI out of, it looked better, and was always much more accurate.

The star rod hit enemies twice far (smash AND bullet) more often. It did more damage too.

The maxim tomato healed you 100%, as opposed to the weedy 50% in melee.

The heart container went from FULL HEAL to only 100% healing.

The porximity mine was better in Melee though, dodgy graphics in SSB64

The Reason why they Changed the Beam Sword is because that Nintendo didn't want to get a possible Lawsuit from Lucas Arts for Copyright Infringements on their Lightsaber from Star Wars.

Good point, were the beam swords from any particular games, I always wondered...

They weren't in any Kirby games were they? As in some sort of copied ability Kirby could get... otherwise I'm not really sure if they appeared anywhere... I might be forgetting something though.
