the connection M2K has for the buddy passes works for Delta Airlines. they have a legitimate buddy system which i have cross-checked with my uncle, who works in LAX.
the buddy pass system offers roughly a 60%-70% discount on a full fare ticket. Typically, fares listed by Delta or competitor airlines post 'sale' or 'lite' fares instead, which are already much lower than the full fare ticket. Thus, the real saving you would make on a buddy system is a lot less, if there's any saving at all.
However, considering both M2K and his contact want some money from giving you the buddy pass, the saving you effectively make would be 0% (or in my case, cost even more than a sale flight).
My scenario as follows:
1. $1500 (the cheapest fare I could find online)
2. $2500 base fare for delta (minus $900 buddy pass discount = $1600) add $300 for M2K/contact's profit = approx. $1900
EDIT: apparently the $2500 quote was an error -- i'll get a cheaper update shortly
