Also, I would like to make one important announcement.

Today at the tournament, there was a theft.

We rented two rooms, the gymnasium where the tournament has been played, and a smaller room that was used for storage and potentially could be used for more setups (attendance hasn't been high enough so far to warrant it yet). In the smaller room, the YMCA kept several LCD and plasma televisions, as well as an XBOX 360 setup.

Sometime between 9PM last night and 2PM today, the XBOX 360 was stolen from that room, along with the game inside it, and 4 Wireless controllers.

Unfortunately, because we signed a contract, there is nothing we can do if the XBOX is not found, the police were here today and they said they couldn't do anything, we have to reimburse the YMCA for the XBOX, the game, and the controllers. That money will unfortunately come out of the pot because the director of the Y wants a new Xbox by tomorrow.

So,
1 XBOX 360 Pro - 299.99
4 Wireless controllers - 49.99(each)
1 NBA 2k8 game - 29.99

So yea, that sucks, but at least the smash today was fun. M2K+Cort are beast as usual, good **** Rx-/xYz for doing it BIG for FL.

See yous tomorrow, and we will start at 11 tomorrow, so that hopefully we can finish on time lol.

Wow...we use god tier duo to win teams....we are so manly. Lolz at those guys...winning means more to them than fun. They both have a similar approach to the game too thinking back to melee....select cheapest character I can use - spam the overpowered stuff xD.
Oh well, they may suck ballz but Roy and Ike for the win :)
Boo at thief btw. That person will get their own back some day.

I think I'll be adjusting the ruleset (Especially the stage list) I have in place for Queensland Brawl Buddies very soon.

Was it hard to come up for an answer to the controller port issue?
Also, any verdict on the IC's chaingrabs? Or should I go with the 'Allowed to a certain percent' rule.

When it comes to ICs, because of their grabbing they just have awesome matchups with many characters.
But on the other hand the characters with the broken hitboxes (Marth, MK, GaW) pretty much can shutdown any IC...

Still, if you're going to add anti-IC rules, please give a low-down of how it changes things. Like, have you had tournaments in the past with a good IC turnout? If you add the proposed rules does it make those ICs players not get used at all?

Everybody had the chance to vote for whether a stage should be a starter, counter pick, or ban.
Depending on the ratio of votes (Like, if a stage only had two votes seperating it from being counterpick or banned), then it could be used for either, with the higher vote being the preferred choice. That's what I read anyhow.

Not sure on how everything else was done though. Lots of discussion I'd imagine.

I think the way it was created was stupid. :)

But it's good for TO noobs
Feel willing to elaborate? And what I want to know with the fact that you were a part of the process, why didn't you raise any objections when we started? (And if you did and I missed them, sorry >.< )

For stages it was a 2/3rds majority, if any close ones we wanted a revote for, we revoted. Same with other things such as stock, time and so on. Some after a revote were still fairly 50/50 so they were either-or, for the TO to decide.

IC's chain grab is 'legal' up to a certain percentage (300 I think) though there is still discussion about chain grabs, but until a character starts winning consistently on chain grabs, I don't expect anything.

Mic, I entered the SBR midway through the voting process, so I was uninitiated with much of the process, lest did I know a revote was even possible.

Nonetheless I'll elaborate my viewpoint soon :)

But to quickly answer your question directly - I was not in the position to completely challenge the way the institution decided on a ruleset. Bear in mind 99% of the SBR is comprised of Americans, and the way Smash is played over there is not an accurate representation of the way Smash is played here. Therefore, I emphasise the first point about the release of the SBR ruleset, and that is - devise a ruleset that matches your scene! Let's not be quick to jump on the 'SBR approved' bandwagon and become copypastas of the American Smash scene that (by virtue of a one-dimensional stage selection) is as boring as watching a Metaknight ditto... oh wait...

Uhh. UUHHH.
*Head explodes*

Anyway I see your point. SBR's ruleset is a guideline, Overswarm said we shouldn't be copying it, but rather, moulding it for our own purposes.

Stage legality is the big issue though. For now I'm going to go back to the old list I had in place.
I've thought over the stages I want for QBB, and am thinking about moving 1 or 2 into counter-pick.

Hey I was thinking, maybe somebody (me?) Could set up something like an emailing list for Australia.

Like, somebody (me, Cao, Mic?) could set up a thread where people can put down their email addresses for a monthly e-newsletter, and could also be informed about upcoming Brawl/Melee tourneys in a single mass mail out.

The one thing we have trouble with, is getting the message across to people that a tournament is happening. So I figure that (electronically speaking) people are always going to check their email, and so we could make a system where people who don't normally check smashboards often (say like, only a few times a year) can find out about events via emails we send to them.

This could also promote a more active community and such.

A nominated person from each state could add an article, and very quickly we'd have the makings of a pretty good e-newsletter.

Vyse, I think that's a great idea.

There's several Sydney Smashers I know who go to tournaments and meets and stuff, but rarely go on Smashboards at all, and they're usually notified about meets and tournaments through word of mouth.

So yeah! Great idea!

That would indeed be pretty cool. Could even (with a little fiddling) have it mail them to people's Wii's too.

I think we should start getting this newletter rolling. It was the direction I was starting to head in, with talks of some new pro-gamer media website from AG and GG. But this is a good start. In the monthly newsletters you could also have article on tournaments that have just finished too, like the wrap up I did on Rambo in SmashWiki (although the content would be the latest news). Interviews and insightful op's included? Why not, lol

Well I could start a thread for the management of an emailing list.
Unless somebody wants to take that responsibility/is more qualified to do so.
