I ask out of the sole fact I am way to poor to afford Rossetta Stone, the German for Idiots book is $25, which I may get - I skimmed over it at Barnes and Nobles. It helped me learn a few words and basic grammar - things to avoid saying, and what to say in place and such... but I still feel the BEST way to learn a language is to be around those who speak it - and are able to communicate with you in English.

When you only know the extreme basics (probably worse then a 6 year old) it really helps to have someone (you can attempt) to speak to in German, and hold conversations in German - and have them fix your mistakes.

So out of this, who wants to be my German buddy? :3 There is no gain on your side except for being ****ing awesome.... unless you have as poor English as I have German, in which case you probably won't understand most of this. D=

Ich sprieche(?) ein bissen Deutch, but not enough to teach anybody...
Yeah, the absolute best way to learn is to be around others who speak it. Other than that, I guess you'll need to learn from a book or something. :ohwell:
Those conjugations can get annoying, though.

That might actually be worth it

EDIT:
@Mewter

That is about the only German I know besides a few random things.... this is everything I managed to get from online:
ich = I
bin = am
du / dich = you
bist = where
wo = where
bist = are
ist = is
er = he
sie = she
Ja = yes
das = the
auto = car
in = in
nein = no
es = it
koffer = suitcase
hotel = hotel
und = and
heute = today
telefon = telephone
buch = book
für = for
danke = thank
Danke schön = thank you

ich bin ... is in the 1st person,
du bist ... is in the 2nd person,
er ist ... is in the 3rd person.

dich is an object form of du and means you.

The word schön in the expression danke schön makes the thank you a bit more friendly.

If anything, check the Regional Zones and look for the German smashers in the Europe section lol.

I recently got Rosetta Stone German levels 1, 2, and 3 and I love it.

Perhaps I could be your German buddy? I know a tad more than you but not a lot.

You're doing it wrong; your words are supposed to be out of sync with your mouth's movement.

Learning together, especially from someone who has what I want but can't afford. Sounds nice. :)
Yeah, that sounds like it would be fun. Personally Rosetta Stone is way too expensive but my mom got this weird deal where she got almost 200$ off =0

I have an ever so lucky photographic memory.

The sad part is I remember the things randomly. :(

That's the only thing that helps me learn a language.. when I get lucky enough to remember things about it.

SuSa, I speak Dutch, it's quite similiar to German. I also have it in school.

I could probably attempt to help you, but how do you want to do this and why? Go for French, German sounds terrible.

I think French sounds terrible, and Japanese is awesome but my school doesn't offer it.

Also I tried for Music theory --> Guitar --> German (as my electives of choice), so in case I get it - why not get a head start? :)

Yes, it is.

I took 2 years in high school. My middle school screwed my schedule over and wouldnt let me take a foreign language my freshman year (even though I could have). So I felt it was pointless to take German 3 when I couldnt take AP German.

This thread, as well as my manager at work (who is learning German), made me go ahead and 'acquire' the Rosetta Stone so I can work on it again. >___>
