I think Sakurai has been trying to space out the announcements of new characters, stages, assist trophies, etc... but doesn't really have any plan as far as what month or day of the week they are announced on. Since the game was previously set to be released on Dec 3 he was probably going to reveal all the big announcements, such as new characters, he wanted to before then. But now with the delay I'm guessing that he's stretched out the time between such big announcements.

did anyone notice that the months where the biggest newcomers were revealed were in the month that is the midway point in when brawl comes out?

started May would have been released December

got 3 character updates in August 4th months from May and 4 months from December.

then it was May to Feb

got 3 character updates in october 6th month from may and 5 months from Feb.( this is the month in which the release date got confirmed to be delayed)

and on both we got 3 new/old character updates so do you think that its just coincidence or is it just to increase hype for the game?

it could be a patteren but the last on throws it off

Well, didn't we get Vets on the months there weren't any newcomers with the banner above them? September (IIRC) was the month we got the ICs and there weren't any newcomers with the banner above them. In July we got Bowser and Donkey Kong... but we also got Peach in August... maybe there isn't a pattern with vets. Or maybe there is now... huh... don't know just brainstorming.

Aug 1st - Ike, Oct 1st - Lucas (same date)
Aug 13th - PT, Oct 10th - Sonic (within three days, former is three days behind)
Aug 22nd - Diddy, Oct 25th - Dedede (within three days, latter is three days behind)

Interesting fact to point out. But remember: Captain Falcon, Luigi, Jigglypuff, Ganondorf, etc. are all veterans at this point. So although we might not see Ridley, Krystal, Olimar, or the elusive AC character this month, we could very well see Melee newcomers or previously hidden vets this month. The closest thing we've had thus far has been an "anti-update," if you will, as Lucas' SM effectively deconfirmed Ness. Here's to a character revelation next week! :bigthumbu

I don't know if there will be too many more character announcements. We have pretty much all of the orgiginal fighters now, including newcomers. I think we'll just have to wait and see if Ganondwarf, Captain Falcon, and Sheik will be secret characters.

hmm...Not a bad theory, but I wonder what it means for the final roster size. I find it funny that we haven't gotten any characters at all in November (but we do have one more week). Now I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with who is or isn't unlockable. I'm not sure if your theory is correct, but if it IS correct, I'm guessing he's going to release all of the secrets before the release.

If your theory is correct then I'm worried that we may have already seen some of secrets already (besides Sonic and Snake) and that we may not be getting a large roster. I'll tell you why: If 3 more newcomers are revealed, some of them must be unlockables. I think the current roster has a great chance of being mostly starters, but if we got 3 more it seems more likely that he has already been unveiling the secrets. That means only a few more vets and 3 more newcomers (unless he continues to reveal secret characters after the release).

I'd prefer that this huge gap in between characters simply means that he has ran out of starters and he won't reveal most unlockables until right before or after the release (which would hint at an overall larger roster).
