Pokémon is the second most popular franchise in the world, right behind Mario. And you say it only deserves 4 reps?! Mario should have 6 reps and Pokémon 5 reps. I say Pokémon Trainer, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, and Meowth.

I hate it too, but yo, it's Nintendo's second-biggest series behind Mario Bros. It's expected that Jiggly and Mewtwo will return, and anothe rep like Lucario wouldn't surprise me, so expect 5 reps.

All with names that sound like they could be added the periodic table of elements. Seriously. Brawlman just gave some very good examples. All the new pokemons suck, and I pity the poor little kids of these last generations who have only those crappy ones to play with.
I think only the original 151 pokemon should be available for Brawl. These new ones are just.. different... In a baddd way.
At least the originals had some sort of recognizable derivatives..

First up, cut Pokemon some slack. The old Pokemon were better but Pokemon's running low on ideas because they've been entertaining generation's of kids for a long time. Secondly, expect five Pokemon. They will almost certainly cut Pichu and put in Lucario. Lastly, people are saying that Pokemon needs to represent all the series as if Pokemon would start crying if all of their series didn't get represented. They made Pokeballs an item for a reason. Why Zelda? I can't think of any more decent characters to put in right now besides Ganon from LoZ. Sure, we could have Zant, but he was pretty lame. What else is there to put in?

I don't think that they will stop repping one of their greatest franchises ever. Pokemon is still huge, whether you like it or not. Hell, everyone always says that they hate every gen after the first, but I still saw people playing DP at school (I even saw some self-proclaimed gangstas playing it).

Of course, things like Starmie, Haunter and Hitmonchan aren't going to make it. The only worthy ones of joining are Jiggs, Mewtwo, Lucario and Gardevoir, in my opinion.

People put waaaay too much significance in "representation" of the different Pokemon generations. Sakurai will add anyone he feels most appropriately represents the franchise and if the majority of those characters happen to be from the first generation, then so be it. Jigglypuff and Mewtwo shouldn't be excluded just because people think it's "unfair" for other generations not to receive any representation.

I agree with this person. Theres nothing saying that Sakurai will skip a well known 1st gen pokemon in favor of a new 4th gen.

Really? I'm pretty sure they made Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2, Plus Colosseum and XD and now Battle Revolution so you can battle your Pokémon in a 3-d style of the RPG..not so you can fight Super Smash Brothers style. Someone please direct a bunch of failure pictures at this guy.

I am a Pokémon Fan. It is my favorite of the Nintendo series. If I went and posted a topic about your favorite Nintendo series being over repped, I'm sure you'd feel the same way as I do.
You all need to stop whining. If there are too many Pokémon for you when the game comes out..here's what you do.. Don't play as them.. BAM! done. Thread over.

Jigglypuff (Notice how I spelt that correctly) will come back.
Mewtwo will return.
We will possibly have one more newcomer.

We don't need another Pokemon newcomer. There are already dozens and dozens coming out of pokeball. Any other Pokemon characters than Jigglypuff, Pkachu, and Pokemon trainer, and Mewtwo would just be redundant at best.

I don't dislike Pokemon, hell I love the series. But I would like to see them tone it down a bit for Brawl. I did like Mewtwo, and Pikachu was of course a must. But Jigglypuff? a character who was popular because of the first season of that crappy anime? Seriously? Don't even get me started on Pichu. Pokemon may be a good game, but they really shouldn't have so many reps when Kirby is finally getting 3, Metroid only has Samus in and out of the suit so far, and Fox only had another clone. The pokemon trainer has three characters already, and then there's Pikachu. Give that new ugly dog thing a spot, and that should be that. Leave the rest to Pokeballs.

I love pokemon and DP has gotten me back into the sling of things seeing as RS was the last one I played (played that years ago and traded it in).

But I personally feel NO series will get more than 5-6 characters in smash. Really, you are just steping into the redundant area if theres more than there needs to be. What, in SSB4 are we going to get 8-10 Mario characters (half of which didn't do anything impactful to the series like Daisy and Boo King)? What about SSB5. . . .12 pokemon characters?
Just cause a series is well known/ HUGE and popular doesn't mean that they should be given character slots just for the he)) of it. Once the most important roles are fulled they should move on.

Really, 4-5 pokemon characters (One of which actually being 3 characters) in brawl sounds like a good number seeing as Mario and LoZ may end up with 5-6 characters each.

It's because most of us have outgrown it over the years. Also, the core battle system hasn't changed since generation 3 opened with RS. Not to mention that unlike Mario, most of the Pokemon console games and spinoffs tend to lay eggs, especiallly in terms of review scores. I've played my friend's copy of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue team for the DS last year in the hopes it would renew my interest in the franchise. What a stinker that was. Pokemon Colosseum was also disappointing IMO.

I think it was all right. It does offer Johto Pokemon which aren't available anywhere else in generation 3 (until Emerald came out). However I expected more length to the story and better graphics. The Hoenn Pokemon look OK, but the older ones don't. The polygon count for the first 251 Pokemon is the same as in Pokemon Stadium 2. The coloring too.

I don't really get the point of creating this thread. Personally I hate Pokemon in general and hope Jiggly Puff is the only other one returning (I respect him for being there since SB64) but I do realize that there are TONS of fans still playing the games. Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Jiggly Puff, Mew Two and possibly one more are all that could realistically be expected anyway. Now that Dedede is in I really am just happy to see more fighters of any franchise.

Now that I think about it, I liked the way Mewtwo would swing weapons with his mind.

Pokemon doesn't need more newcomers. Everyone else does, especially one of the Third Party franchises. I'd rather see Tails or Gray Fox in Brawl than another confounded Pokemon.

Yes I do. Generation 2 introduced hold items. Generation 3 introduced special abilities. What did generation 4 introduce(If anything)?

Generation 4 introduced the Physical/Special Split. That was one of the biggest changes to happen yet.

No. I think it should get the same number of reps as Melee. In terms of sales, Pokemon is second only to Mario. However, in terms of everything else, including review scores, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and esecially Zelda and Metal Gear, Pokemon is outclassed.

Generation four also brought back a lot of the stuff from Generation 2 that Generation 3 (the worst gen yet) ditched such as the clock. It also had online and the underground. They also improved on the best thing from Gen 3 contests.
