The best way to get better is to get *****.

Back in 2005, I got ***** by Wes at my first tournament. It opened my eyes to what true skill was. Then in January 2006, Mew2King bled my rectum dry with more ****. Then he stayed at my house for a weekend and I started playing him, Lord Knight, and Magus. I was ranked 3rd in NJ for Melee by the end of the spring and never dropped below 5th.

If you're not exposing yourself to the best and brightest, you will never improve. You can't get much better than the people you play, sadly. If you play with garbage, you can only get slightly better than garbage.

if you can't deal with the price of tournaments then just go and play friendlies lol I did that for a solid month or so and it managed to improve me

he's offering advice to you and you can either take it or not take it there's no "backing it up"

My point was always getting slightly better is better than not getting better at all. Also I've been ***** by like half of ny/nj (/exaggeration). I even remember being owned by you. I already understand this and I am not arguing against this. And feel free to adopt my as your apprentice. ;D You can help me become the best white mk, since there aren't any good ones right now. =P

@PD: That's true. You make a good point. Honestly... I suck at asking for friendlies. lol I'll work on that if I ever go to another tournament.

and to your second point. There needs to be backing it up or its a halfhearted attempt. Unless you suggest I just listen to what every person tells me to do without question.

My apprentices typically turn into gods.

First one was teh_spamerer in Melee. He's a top player in both games now and ***** me at both.

Second one was Atomsk for Brawl, and you know how that turned out. He also ***** me now.

Third one is Izumi, still a work in progress. If he wasn't so immature and lazy, he'd be in the same league as me by now, but he's just not cut out for my tough training since I'm harsh with words, expect a lot, and don't usually verbally teach much and expect people to just learn from experience.

I don't think you're close enough to be my apprentice.

Also I am bad now anyways.

All of this is irrelevant. Also, there is no right way to learn how to get better. We all have different minds and learn differently. It may be from Youtube, friendlies, tournaments, or just reading or self taught. No need to start a flame war out of all of this.

O.o That's pretty ****, Inui.

And you? Bad?!! The eveidence says otherwise.

edit: But there is an optimal way to get better. They are suggesting the best way to get better, which I agree with. I'm just looking for the cheap way out (i.e. this tournament, that LI smashfest in july, not entering singles, etc).

edit2: @Yes: I'm sorry. I know you were just trying to help, but I just like being difficult. Don't give up on scrubs because of me. Some of us are tolerable.

The best way to play the best players you can, as much as you can.

I'm too inconsistent now. I can be amazing, but half the time I'm garbage.

i dont really know how to say this nicely. but rathy you look like a complete idiot LOL

i understand what you mean about people backing stuff up but tbh if you arent will to travel to get better at the game chances are you never will. therefore why should he waste his time writing out a long as post for you.

and fyi

venue fee 5-10 bucks
singles - 10 bucks
= 20 dollar tournament

bring youre own food from home and pack a sandwich and you dont have to spend eating out. its what i try to do.

I pretty much gave up on smash (maybe, not sure yet). I'm not arguing for any reason other than the fact that I enjoy it. I'm pretty happy that Yes bothered replying to me that many times yesterday. ^_^ Anyway its the transportation that usually kills me, but recently I've found a way to get to the city for free. So I may go to some nyc tournies and possibly even nj tournies now. And I completely agree that Yes should not waste time making long posts for me, I just wanted to make it clear that trying to convince me of something without any proof will always be futile.

Terra-bite used to take 35% I think? I should know =-P. But there's also a reason that Terra-Bite is no longer a venue. If more people come the amount can be reduced for future events, but honestly if a store isn't profiting they're better off just doing a birthday party. It's what happened with the store in umm... uhh... OH jeez. Where Alukard's bi-weeklies used to be in Fair Lawn. I talked to the store owner (I still go there on Saturdays once a month for board games) and he said it's just not profitable and that's all it boils down to.

Edit: But yeah, moral of the story is don't be a jerk to the store owner just because he needs to make money because you will lose venues that way.

We will be posting weekly results with top players and winnings.

For now we are sticking with weekly events. We may end up doing bi-weekly if that is what the majority wants.

EmuKiller,

You couldn't have explained the situation any better. Nice to hear it from an actual player. Hopefully that will help to clarify with everyone.

A monthly sounds like a great idea.

I wish the Yu-Gi-Oh events there were swiss like every other venue in the country lol. I'd play there.
Kaiber Kop,

We have been running fully sanctioned Swiss style Yu-Gi-Oh for the past 2 months. We use the COSSI tournament system.

Last night we had close to 20 players at the tournament.

Yu-Gi-Oh runs twice per week Friday Nights at 7:00 and Saturday Nights at 5:00. We can currently seat over 40 players with our new layout and are still working on our remodeling.

Hope to see you at some events...Check out our website for more tournament information

WOW. Great. The only reason I thought the venue was crap(for yugioh) was single elim. If you have turbo packs and swiss then I'm interested and will make it when i dont have work. Thx

People should attend this event on Saturday(if saturday is the day he still plans to hold brawl). We can show we'll attend, and influence the rules if we are actual customers. Theres nothing going on this weekend that I can think of. One day using bad rules to influence a potential competitive venue doesn't sound to bad to me.

This isn't a bad idea, however it might have to take place over a long period, say a month or two.

I think what would be best is what was suggested before. The owner just posts the amount of people coming in, and the amount they won.

Not worth the drive...

He won't even announce doubles as an official event.
I'm going if Orion does. I wanna hang out with him. Hopefully we can work SOMETHING out that's good for the community while we're there(if we go)

We already know his store is currently filled with randoms who make nothing due to pot ****. Thats not gonna change unless some people in the community in NJ go.

idk if this was mentioned but y not maybe one week try the things people were saying such as doubles, leaving the pot alone and a venue fee and see how ur turnout is different from what you are getting now.

It's a good idea, but that includes changing the style that his current customers pay for in order to please us when he has no gaurantee we'll go anyway. It's a risk at losing money basically. A chance to gain some as well, but even in the past when we had events at gaming world it was like 20-30 of us if that
