Animated Smash Bros!

In a twist that has shocked the entire gaming scene (especially companies looking to promote their latest titles), Smash has been reanimated with cartoon chaos and anime action! Not a single Mario, Sonic, or Cloud can be seen - replaced with Saturday morning heroes and villains. Can we prove this is a worthwhile spin-off, or will this be seen as a ridiculous tonal shift on the level of Teen Titans Go or Loonatics Unleashed? only one way to find out, let's head for the inkwell and start painting a "whole new world" of Smash!

First, since this is a completely different origin medium and new roster we're working with, we have to set a LOT of rules - this might be a tricky read given how long it is and if there's opposition to any particular rule we can hold a vote on it

KNOWN INFO AND RULES:

• The game will be mechanically identical to Ultimate, with the only exception being that it uses 2D animation on 3D stages instead of 3D models. Omegas and Battlefields are not featured
• No one company or studio will be prioritised like Nintendo is in Smash.
• Comedy and action characters are both viable
• Adult cartoon characters are evaluated on a case-by-case basis of how censor-able they are. Rick, Peter Griffin, or Cartman would probably not be included but Hank Hill, Bob Belcher, or Beavis and Butthead would likely be fine and Homer is confirmed. Unless the character is rejected for being too sexualised they should be fine as ATs or other non-playable roles. (Sorry, Lucoa fans)
• Preschool characters are allowed, but to prevent any brand image conflicts and appeal to our pre-teen-and-up demographic they must have existed for quite some time (Blue's Clues, Peppa Pig, or Dora would be allowed. Paw Patrol, PJ Masks, or Bluey would not.)
• Characters from feature length movies are allowed.
• Characters from web series are allowed as long as they or their series isn't derivative of a copyrighted work. (Homestar Runner, Battle for Dream Island, and RWBY would be allowed, SMG4 would not.) Webcomics are not. (Sorry Homestuck fans.)
• Advertising mascots are not allowed.
• Puppets and cosumed characters are not allowed, but stop motion and claymation characters (for example Coraline, Gumby, Jack Skellington or Wallace and Gromit) are.
• Some series and franchises will get multiple fighters, but this is kept to a minimum
• Comic characters (both newspaper and superhero) and manga characters are viable for inclusion.
• Main protagonists should be prioritised, but exceptions can be made if the protagonists don't have much to work with or are heavily overshadowed in popularity (for example Reptar over Tommy Pickles or Dr. Doofenshmirtz over Phineas)
• Animated versions of game characters are not allowed (Sorry, Robotnik fans)
• Elements from live action or game media starring these characters is allowed but should not be prioritised unless stated otherwise.

With the recent addition of Disney Parks to our stage list, we need to start getting stages for the other series.

Job #3: Submit a stage for Mickey Mouse

Describe what the stage is and how it would work. What cameos or hazards would there be as well?

Job #3: Steamboat Willie

A pretty simple stage where you play on the boat as it goes down the river. If this gets added I'm sure we can do a vote on wether or not the characters would be displayed in black-and-white

Steamboat Willie

This stage would take place over the entire length of the boat. and it starts in Black and white. On the boat you can see many Mickey mouse characters like Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Pete, Clarabelle Cow. After a while the boat explodes with color then the whole boat and background become colored and the characters on the boat become their modern incarnations.

EDIT: I did not see Champion of Hyrule 's submission, I can either change it or submit another it's no biggie.

House of Mouse
This classic nightclub that was the childhood of many a 2000s kid, this is the place where stars would come and view the latest disney work, as a stage there would be a large main platform with multible smaller platforms stacked on the left like a tower, periodically the central right area will begin to flash a clip from a classic mickey short and cause something to happen to the right area.

Micky and the Beanstalk: a beanstalk will create a duplicate style tower but on the right

Plane Crazy: A pair of tiny biplanes will fly around the stage acting as platforms

Mad Doctor: A giant saw blade will cut across the main platform

Yodelberg: A avalanche will turn the area into a downward slope like area

Runaway Brain: Julius will take up the bottom platform, you can ide his head as a platform as well

Job #3: Mickey’s Dream

The stage takes place in the dream of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia. There will be one tall rock high up in the background and tons of rocks on the ground that would be used as platforms for fighters to fight on. Waves will act as stage hazards, occasionally hitting the rocks with a huge splash. If Mickey isn’t being used, he can be seen on top of the tall iconic cliff playing with the stars in sky, while in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice outfit. If Mickey is being used, Mickey will be replaced by the Sorcerer, Yen Sid.

Everyone can still submit animation cels (including the series we just added), as long as the animation cels come from a series that has a playable character on the roster. Also, animation cels do not deconfirm characters from getting a spot on the roster.

Also I feel like we should have a vote on if anime/foreign characters should use their dub voices by default or if they should always speak in their original languages. I imagine they could speak in either language and it can be toggled in settings, lots of games do that, but I'm not sure which one would be default

Okay sorry for the double post but I have one more question. Will we be following the original thread’s plan for the future jobs? I’m referring to when wario wario wario said:

First, we'll do the 3 action anime newcomers, the 1 action cartoon newcomer, and the 1 comedy anime newcomer as planned.

Then we will vote on (almost) all future newcomer themes before submitting characters - for example "a villain" or "a Cartoon Network character".

No smash run equivalent is planned currently, but plans could always change. There will be different game mode submission jobs that could add one.

I do think we should also add a couple of Animated Movie Characters to this Roster as well. Simply because if we want this to be a celebration of animation, you have to include Theatrical Animation as well. Not saying this is entirely needed, but I do think that’s a good note to keep in mind if we were to add more characters.

Job 4

The Stand Arrow - JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Gives everyone a Character Specific Stand. The effects are Case by Case, but a good rule of thumb is that if it’s not just a passive, it probably takes up Smash Attacks. As for the Stand’s Chosen:
Mickey Mouse would get Hierophant Green, as that fits the Sorcerer’s Apprentice well.
Bugs Bunny gets Echoes Act 2, where he set Traps based on a Random Menu.
SpongeBob gets G.E.B. It’s the Water Stand on the literal sea creature oh boy.
Homer gets Wonder of U. Considering Homer is very lazy he’d just want the Stand to do the work for him, which is what Wonder of U does. Since even thinking about Wonder of U triggers it.
Goku gets Mandom. This is Goku, he wants a fair fight. This ability will reset the killing blow on Goku. If he dies during the 15 Seconds that the Stand is active, he will set the match back to six seconds before the killing blow, with one second of invincibility on Goku.
Usagi is the only girl on the Roster so far, and will probably be the girliest character on the Roster overall regardless, so she’s 100% getting Spice Girl. Soften the ground to trap foes and bounce yourself up.
Luffy is getting White Album. It gives him a MASSIVE Speed Boost, will nullify projectiles, and damage foes when close.
Jotaro is from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and already has a (Non-Canon) Evolved Stand in Star Platinum Over Heaven. This essentially give Star Platinum’s Fists the ability to cause Random Effects to anyone they hit on top of the usual Damage and Knockback that getting punched by the strongest Stand in the entire series would do.


Food. This is the only Healing Item, with it healing 25% regardless of what it is, unlike Smash. There’s a catch however. Every character has a “Favorite Food”. If a Character eats their Favorite Food, they heal double. As for the Food itself:
Mickey Mouse gets Foodles.
Bugs Bunny gets a Carrot. Oh gee I wonder why.
SpongeBob gets a Krabby Patty.
Homer gets a Donut because no I am not letting Goku or SpongeBob drink.
Goku gets a Rice Bowl.
Usagi gets Ice Cream.
Luffy gets Meat from ONE PIECE.
Jotaro gets Tea. It was either this or Beer and I don’t want Goku drinking.

Bubble Wand (Spongebob)
Blow on this item to launch a damaging bubble projectile, charge up the item to create a larger bubble that can be used as a platform, blow the charged bubble up to be able to float like a hot air balloon

Dragon Balls
This games equvilent of the Dragoon, collect all seven to summon shenron however instead of targeting a player shenron gives the summoner a wish, this can be one of the following

Instant Final Smash
All opponents are turned to stone
Super Armor
Attacking others heals you
Extra Stock/Extra Money
Summons an assist trophy
Instantly KO's a fighter

The twist is that you can only pick from a pool or three that is randomly chosen from the above list.

Since there are 7 items instead of 3 these will be more valuable as a result, which is why it's very overpowered

PS can we do animation cells of charatcers that only appear in video games based on these shows (Prawn from Battle For Bikini Bottom or Android 21 from Fighterz for example)

I will allow video game characters, as long as the character first appeared in a video game mainly centered in a franchise on the roster. Prawn and Android 21 are allowed.

Clima-Tact

This is a weapon, it starts as a staff but when you hit it, the weapon splits off into 3 different weapons

The initial staff, once charged creates a "Weather Egg" which spawns and then after a while explodes into a random effect

The 3 segments all have different properties, one has the property of Fire, one has the property of Ice, the other has the property of Lightning

Anchor Arms

Once picked up, your characters arms become pink and exaggeratedly buff, this increases the strength and power of physical attacks and grabs.

Job #5: Submit a moveset for Bugs Bunny or SpongeBob SquarePants

For moveset submissions, the only requirements are to have both specials and a final smash. You can also add a little extra, like Glubbfubb’s Mickey Mouse moveset submission if you like (it’s optional). You can submit a moveset for one or both of them. I have also included a spoiler of Glubbfubb’s Mickey Mouse moveset to give you all an example.

Spoiler: Mickey Mouse Moveset

Being the mario of animation micky would have similar stats and weight to the red plumber, however he cant wall jump and instead can crawl due to being a mouse

Jab is a series of punches with his gloves

Dash attack is a spin attack with his tail

Forward Smash is an blast from his tuba from his marching band cartoons

Down Smash is hitting a broom on the ground

Up smash is him spinning a plane propeller (plane crazy)

Neutral special has him summon Toodles and have him cycle though 4 mousekatools

A shield for added defence

A boot for added speed

A glove for added neutral attack damage

A wand for added special damage

His side special has him uses the steamboat willie to shoot a stream of hot steam acting as a combo of the fludd and fireball

Up specials has him use a magical aura to ride a flying carpet to safety doing raming damage

Down special uses summing a beanstalk from thin air

Final smash has him summing a tidal wave as the sorcerers apprentice from fantasia

Job #6 might also start later day as well. It’s a big job!

 

[Glubbfubb]

Spongebob Moveset
Jabs

Jab	A one two punch followed by a Karate Glove
Dash Attack	Rolls into a cylinder to ram into the fighters
Smash Attacks

Up Smash	Turns into a giant tack from Sleepytime, acts likes a spear and has long upward range when fully charged
Down Smash	Uses anchor arms to do an upside down spinning attack that sweeps both sides
Side Smash	Turns into a giant spatula to crush anyone in front of him

Grab	Uses a bubble lassos
Pummel	Kicks the opponent
Forward Throw	Uses his reef blower to blast them forward
Back Throw	His alarm clock blast the back
Down Throw	A grill appears to burn the opponent
Neutral Special	Bubble Blast: same as my bubble blower submission, it launches a weak projectile forward but can be charged to create a larger bubble that can be used as an explosive mine or a platform
Down Special	Porous Body: Gets inside a tub and absorbs the water inside, gaining the ability to blast pushing blobs of water
Side Special	Bubble Missile: Blows a Bubble Missile from BOBB and is homes into the nearest opponent, if you use this attack while the missile is still on screen you can make it split into 4 bubbles in an X pattern.

Up Special	Reef Pack	Uses the reef blower to blast himself upwards, can push opponents as well
Final Smash	Goober Rock	Creates a guitar that he uses to paralyze opponents with the power of rock before exploding into a grand finale

Only changes I would make are the following:
Split Jab and Heavy Jab. Jab is Side Tilt and Heavy Jab is Jab.
Just do Goofy Goober.
Change Up Special to the Mechanical Spatula from Episode 1.
Make the Washing Machine Up Throw, with Side Throw being the Feeding, and Down Throw being the burry. That’s literally it.

Spoiler: Spongebob moveset

Neutral Special: Bubble

Spongebob blows a small bubble which goes forward and does a tiny bit of damage. The bubbles can get bigger and do more damage if charged and if they’re big enough they can even trap people in the bubbles.
Side Special: Boatmobile

He drives forward in a boatmobile, and then can jump out. It’s pretty much the same as Wario’s side b but a much bigger vehicle.
Up Special: Jellyfish

Sorry for the awful fake PNG, but it’s the best picture to show what I mean. Anyways, he flies on the back of a jellyfish and is pretty much fully controllable for a couple of seconds. The bottom of the jellyfish can damage opponents.

Down Special: Absorbtion

Spongebob gets inflated with water and turns big. If you press any button during this state, a bunch of water will squirt out from his body in every direction, dealing a lot of damage and pushing opponents away. He then has to wait about ten seconds to use the move again.
Final Smash: Sponge Out of Water

He starts off by blowing a bubble forward. If it hits anyone, they’ll be trapped in the bubble. Afterwards, Spongebob briefly goes into his superhero form from the Sponge out of Water movie. He then repeatedly punches the opponent and finishes with a really strong kick.
