none really, you are much better off spacing an auto cancel and then running away, or baiting them instead. you gotta be really clever with his shield pressure, utilise bair wavelands on the shield, waveland behind them and do an aerial during the slide, maintaining ur momentum.

auto cancel = when u do and attack and u basicly land like u did no attack , like ur sh upairs

ledge cancel is when u slide off the edge of a platform or the stage during an aerial/w.e and it cancels...like in the combo video "The cunning killer" cunningkitsune hits someone with to backairs in a row (they couldnt have stopped it) by hitting them with bair and sliding off the edge of a platform and back airing again...

OK I understand what you mean, I was just confused because I didn't know Mario had auto-cancels. What are they?

Yup.

Fair from Fh also, bair/uair from an isai drop on every stage. Fair onto most platforms, the rest onto every platform in the legal stage list aside fair and sometimes nair.

You can also jump out of Sh bair/uair to create some sexyness. Be that sexyness a waveland on the above platform or another aerial, it will be sexy.

ahh thats understandable.

But if you were to do good with mario, could you imagine the bragging rights you get. You may even help mario go up a couple in the tier list. That right there should have been enough lol

honestly I think thats why taj did what he did with mewtwo
the johns
like you beat somebody with mewtwo and they're going to john or just straight up cry
you do it with mario they're gonna be the same way
plus nobody knows the matchup, so once you get to an average/above average level with Mario's matchups you should be fine tourney wise

how long you been playin?
I went to Apex 2010 as my first tourney ever
I got *****
not by juggleguy and mango and the pros (I did get to play those guys tho. Mango pools ftw)
but by people on long Island I had never met before
they didn't play like the pros, you could easily see that, but they knew what they were doing
you obviously have the drive to get better because you said "I really shoulda won"
you just gotta keep driving. some people learn quicker than others, that just means you gotta work that much harder to win
also, quick question
did you get beat with falcon or mario? XD

that's everyone's first tourney experience im pretty sure haha. you learn to get more comfortable with it.
in pools at my 2nd tourney, i got beat 2-1 by this dude that i felt i really shoulda beaten. the next time we played, i 3 stocked him.
i think it might just be the jitters.
you meet a lotta cool people though, keep joining tourneys! best way to get better.

lol wait just a second.... are we trying to convert him into a mario main? if so lol we all have our ups and downs. its because we get nervous/intimidated and make a poor decision. once you have control as a mario, I feel he will do great

I think the main fundamental strategy that most Mario mains overlook is ground spacing, which Mario is actually quite good at, and apparently Scorpion Master is a god at (F-smash?!). At least I usually feel that way since my Mario is much more defensive than what is commonly posted on youtube.

I believe that's pretty much the only reason why most people think Luigi beats Mario, when in reality the matchup couldn't be more even. The matchup very much discourages Mario from jumping into the **** and trying combos, but he juggles Luigi almost brain dead easily just because Luigi has very bad options getting to the ground against Mario's U-tilt.

alright so mario basically has a disadvantage to all chars higher than low tier?

hmm, this will greatly affect my playing style, hmm. Nah not really, hope that people dont know the matchup and be cautious.

I think Mario beats the Ice Climbers solidly to be honest, but then again there's only like one serious Ice Climber user in my area, and the main thing he does is just go for wobbles and Smashes. Vs Luigi is like dead 50/50, Doc is slightly in Mario's favor (very slight). Actually the more I think about it, the more I think he beats DK slightly as well.

well, seeing as my falcon is no good. I placed 33 out of like 35 going all falcon. w/ mario Ill actually have to realize what im doin wrong and fix it, whether than go falcon speed of light and nair, get shield grab, lose, and then realize what i did wrong later. idk what im gonna do. I wanna win, but i dont think ill be good enough. I think mario is a good start tho, I wanna make a name for myself. Like I wanna be known by that guy that blah blah. LIke o CA$H, ya he ***** w/ mario instead of being an average fox or falcon.

Yeah Mario is a good character for transitioning into the competitive scene.

Almost every tactic in the game is noticeably useful for him, but what works with him usually isn't too technically intensive.

The two things however that you should especially work on if you're using Mario are his grab combos, and the spacing for all of his attacks.
