There is a tournament June 25th that Blunted object is coming to, in Edmonton. I've posted it here a few times and asked for it to be put into the OP/title so you Calgary guys can know about it.

I was directed here, so I guess I will post my prior comment.

I want to host a SSB64 tournament here in Calgary, and was wondering if anyone would be interested. I have nothing worked out yet. I'd rather see the numbers before putting anything in motion. I have two venues that would work. A hobby store and an internet cafe. Both of which are interested. (Switchbox and Eastridge Hobbies.)

Also, on that note. Apparently I fought the 'Regional Champions' of Calgary last weekend at an event called 'Project X: Redemption', our they on these forums, or does anyone know them?

First of all, Welcome, I am Bread, probably the longest standing smash community member from calgary, ignoring partial details like people who are actually good at the game or have time to still play it. You should add me on msn (kithsune@gmail.com) trust me it'll help you a lot if you intend to get major events going.

If you're looking for a huge turnout, the sad fact is the calgary scene, especially for 64 is rather small, I mean theres lots of interest, but once moneys involved you only see a select few players and they're just a couple really good guys or people who have time on their hands. A large portion of the calgary scene right now is still people in school of various kinds and to me seem young (even though I'm calling 20 year olds young, and I'm 19) they're easily detered from coming to something they think they'll lose, which sucks but it's the truth.

Anyways, if you can get one of these venues, get a couple good words out especially if you go to college university high school whatever, let some people know, You're more than likely to fill out a decent size place, but for a first tournament I wouldn't shoot that high, just remember you have to start small.

Also, I don't recall Dan saying he was going to Project X, so unless he went, I'm gonna go ahead and say that whoever was there was completely full of themselves and would be 5 stocked by the likes of actually good players. But who knows, I'd like to play them if you can get them to your tournament. Either way, add me or message me and we can discuss more legitimate details in... well detail.

Thanks for the input everyone, as for the 'Regional Champs', the reason I asked is so I wouldn't offend them if they were on this forum.

This was the results of a 3 stock match. They were horrid and lost to a double DK team... >.<



Anyway, back on topic. Both venues gave me the okay, and I might be seeing some potential prize support outside the realm of just a cash pot from both.

As for the comment about doing all three SSB games. I have no real interest this year in hosting something with Melee and Brawl. However, I may next year, or this year if I have bigger venues.

if you host just smash 64 without melee or brawl, i don't think anybody will come. sorry to be blunt about it, but it's the truth. calgary's community is pretty much all melee when they're able to get around to hosting tourneys, and edmonton has a decent brawl community and a slightly inactive melee community at the moment. dan plays smash 64 but i highly doubt he's going to go all the way to calgary to play with 3 other people that are nowhere near his skill level.

You make a convincing point. This Dan guy, what's his username on here. We'll go up there to play him. Calgary's 64 competetive players have been jokes so far. And i would love to have my butt handed to me. :D Perhaps i'll do a melee and 64 tournement then. I'd have to get consoles for that though.

I will perosnally host melee myself at your tournament and run EVERYTHING for it if you're willing to let it be there and advertise with it alongside 64 in your posts/however you're getting the word out.

Lol Dan was close to JV 6 stocking the host of one of our tourneys until he told the guy "you have to attack".


But yeah, if you host a 64 tournament in Calgary, you will probably need a LOT of media advertisement to get a decent turnout. Basically like the first U of C tournament, when it was held at the end of the week near a popular U of C location, where random people showed up and decided to enter all 3 games.

If hosting a tournament at a house or something, it would probably turn out like the second U of C tournament; all the 5+ year Melee smashers who know each other and a couple of their friends, but no random people.


Overall, most of the attendance comes from random walk-in people.

Why you calling me out on naming off douchebags? Like it was all legit. I mean Brad goes without saying, you and Tyler are pretty obvious, Colin was joining in on it, Kosk was a sore loser about me beating him in singles. I take the most **** out of anyone on this site, so I think I get to call people douchebags when they are. It's like you guys (especially Brad cause he's a legitimate ******) don't think I can take a joke. I can, but when it's the whole room being an ******* about things it becomes unfunny. Any other group of people would think its not funny, especially the people I actually know. You guys don't know me very well, not even you Victor, infact I think you know me the least out of anyone because you seem pretty oblivious to things.

Yes this is a hate message to the people who are hating on me. If people respond saying y so serious? It'll be a testament to how uncreative and unfunny everyone on this site is. I've come to a sad realization that most people on smashboards share a very similar sense of humor which really isn't that funny, because believe me there a lot of people in the world that think we as gamers are losers, and when they hear the "jokes" or types of things we call funny are not funny at all and really lame.

For the record when victor/tyler said I lost to a lvl 9 MK at first I wasn't upset at all about it, I thought it was just a joke, but when it became serious thats when I was like wtf? I mean it's funny how lvl 9 mk got me down to 1 stock multiple times, I acknowledge that, and I was laughing the whole time during the match, it's not like I was upset or anything. And I think it's equally as funny to say the MK got a match off of me, but people were actually serious about me losing that match, and did not want me to progress through the tournament.

In short... Most people on this website are both *******s online and offline, and when I hear things like "Brad isn't so bad in real life," I am going to call BS every time, because he's actually worse, and I do not respect him as a person at all.

Everyone else who isn't Tyler, Victor, Kosk, Colin, and anyone who else who actually took me losing to a lvl 9 MK seriously and who just like to try and piss me off during the whole time I am around them, I think you guys are pretty cool. Examples: Kevin, Dynamism, Brandon, Mike, Darren etc etc.

I appreciate the offer, and would love to have someone who knows what they are doing for the melee side of things. Since honestly I would just toss controllers at players and say have at er.

I would love to play you as well. The more I can try out other players the more I can find out if I am good, or if I am just a guy who thought he was good because he could beat up little kids at the game. Lmao.

As for the first vendor. The hobby store. I have secured a 'yes' to running the tournament there. After all, I do work there part time doing their trading card section. (Yes, I am a nerd. >.<) I have also talked to 'Red Rain' energy drinks, about potential give aways. I talked with them at Project X and they are interested to see what I have planned down the road. So yea, energy drinks!
