Aesthetic Change: Eye Contact

Okay, this has been mentioned before, but I don't think there was a topic on it because at the time it was Purely speculative. But now I believe we have more evidence.

The change is that, Now in Brawl, characters will make eye contact with one another. I'm sure it isn't that hard to implement, because I believe games dating back to Wind Waker had dynamic eye movement.

So here was the picture that started it all:

In the above picture, Mario is looking back at Wario after he planted the gooey bomb on him, even though he should be looking the other way.

Although tis could just be an effect of the turn around animation, Zelda is clearly looking at Pit.

And in this one, Zelda has her eyes fixed on her opponent. If you recall, her Dtilt in Melee makes her look off to the side, not at her enemy.

There was a different image that showed Pikachu looking at someone closer to the ground, but that was probably a coincidence. This picture is a lot more obvious. Look at how high Bowser is but Pikachu still has his eyes on him.

And now, the latest update. You can clearly see Link's eyes focused on Zamus as he charges is smash attack.

I sure hope it will be implemented well.
I really doubt that all these images are just doctored... the first one, for instance, would be a LOT of work just for a possibly funny effect.

So... yeah! Awesome! Anything that contributes to making characters look less like mindless puppets is good in my book.

Yeah, I think you're right about the eye contact (it's probably going to be put in the game)... but I've never noticed that before.

However, if it's implemented well, I'm sure that it will be a cool addition to game play.

You know, this topic has come up so many times, but it's never been as apparent than in these pictures. You really gathered the best pics to support the theory.

Yeah, I'd have to say you're right. Pretty cool effect, if you ask me.

I would really like to know what those smashes are in the last pic. Link's looks a lot different from Melee (his arms are above his head and his sword is slightly behind)...

Somehow Link looks like he's doing a movement similar to Mortal Draw.

And yeah, dynamic eye contact is a good visual effect. May get in the way of some good Camera Mode pics, though.

It's subtle things like this that are really going to make this game look good, not the quality of the graphics.

Hmm, hopefully it wont make you turn around, that could mess up my camping XD

If it is just graphical I am SO all for it, the wii games need some pizazz... red steel made me sad :o

Great though, it shows that they are really putting some great programmers and some thought into this game, i hope this means gameplay will own all other games :)

Red Steel had very sucky multiplayer graphics, but the single player was above the average XBOX game, graphically, IMO, which is really pretty good for the Wii.

True, but I hope that they make smash even better :)

Good point, I never really got into the single player of games, and I think that is why I got so into smash, i mean what is the point of single player games if you cant compare your skills to others, right?

This is something I might not take much notice of while I'm playing the game, but it's the little things like this - the attention to detail - that make these games great.

Yeah, the detail, i mean look how much lack of detail there was in the hitboxes of SSB...

Then look at ssbm, you can even evade the grab attacks dood

I've never really looked at it like that before, but yeah this would a great effect for brawl. To have the characters look at each other as if they can really see each other, that's a great effect. I'm all for it.

this thread shows some good evidence of this 'eye contact' theory. Maybe they'll explan it at E3. i hope its just animation effects and doesnt affect the physics of the game play

i honestly don't think it will affect gameplay. it's just a cool gimick you can notice when you play.

but this is a cool feature. hopefully the pics weren't modified to make them seem funny or cooler and it's an actual concept

I seriously hope those are real pictures too. The contact in the game would add such a nice, dramatic touch. It probably wouldn't affect the physics though, it's probably just something the characters do and even though it's just eye contact, it looks sick.
My favourite pic is the last one with ZSS and Link. You can barely see Link's eyes but you know he's staring at ZSS, it looks so cool.
Correction: "aesthetic" btw. I would know, my email address has the word "aesthetic" in it.

^^^ Some one has already said that I think

Anyways, I think those that are worrying about what it would do to the physics, dont. I don't think sakurai is dumb enough to make your characters controlled by something other than you, and your custom control type (Yay!)

Well, I hope those photos aren't just edited for that effect, although if it is in the game I would like it to be something they don't even mention...

That would make for a lame update "They look at eachother, like, people at things!!111!!"

And at e3 when they are talking about brawl XD

No no no, you have it all wrong. It's not that it will have dynamic eye movement;; that's too small a cchange. The big change for SSBB is... it will be a FPS (with minimal shooting and lots of kicking)! It's the only possibility. Unless it really is just eye movement...? Nah :-)

Also, if you notice, shadows are different shades and lengths on different stages or during different times on one stage. The attention to detail is astounding within the programming crew.

what attack is link doing? looks like a counter lol
No one answred so I guess I will :

Link is charging his fsmash. From the looks of his posture I would guess he would have a 2 hit smash like he did in melee, though I could be wrong.

I never noticed the eye contact thing till this thread pointed it out, it seems very proven already and its an incredibly good idea.

yeah, its one of those things you wouldnt really notice unless you slowed things down, but its nice to have. I am still amazed by the graphics of melee given its age. The characters blink, the swords shine and mouths move when they call out during attacks. I expect to see a lot more neat things like this in Brawl

I love the fact that there is eye movement in the game, and it doesn't look glitchy at all. I hope they can improve the mouth movements from the old game as well.

I never really noticed that they didn't make eye contact in Melee until you pointed this out. This looks like a nice addition for Brawl.
