They decided to cancel this tournament. Apparently, it have been move back to April BUT

it will be a brawl only event. They didn't gave me their reasoning but that's what it's gonna be.

in another news, just go to my tournament on 3/27 instead for melee. Thanks

Active Gamers is MAD shady...

But since this is under the supervision of Champ, I'll most likely attend this.

That activegamers triple threat **** sounds horrible. Hopefully this doesn't happen here. Reminds me of that 'ESPN' sponsored brawl tournament in SD like 2 years ago.

No one questions your ability to run this Champ. The issue revolves around whether you'll be given the proper tools to do what you do. Now, I'm not questioning AG's ability to do this in order to defame them. Rather, I'm posing the question so that they could confirm to us that this will be a well run event, where champ WILL have the resources he needs to run this smoothly.

Also, Fly/Mango/Tyrant/M2k are still owed money. I'm not sure if fly was paid his 50$ from 5th place at Coast 2 Coast though, but I believe he hasn't. I won't support this until they're paid their dues.

Again, not that I wish to defame them, but I believe paying what is owed is the first step in proving to the community that they mean to help us. This cannot take a back seat to any other "priorities". Players need to get paid.

i didn't know that they still owe those guys money. If that's true then I'm not going to run this tournament. I don't want to support a series that steals money from us.

edit: If Activegamers owe money to any1, then they need to pay them back before this tournament happens. That's all I'm saying

I'm not saying they stole money.

It could be that these players weren't paid because of some contractual obligations that weren't met by the players themselves. However, while that's all good and legal, we all know dam well that these smashers aren't business people.

And if they do owe some contractual obligations, they certainly aren't aware of it. Not doing what is necessary to make sure these players meet their obligations is equivalent to taking advantage of the fact that smashers simply don't know any better.

I think the fact was that even if the tournament was ran poorly (In example -- Axis 2008. Anyone hear from those guys again after?) we still accepted them because they paid out to the prices they said they would. From what I remember hearing, people paid 10-20 bucks to step inside the venue then leave because of no tournament being ran. If anything, this AG guy should paypal everyones entry back, and give the past winners their money (I heard M2K never got his sponsorship money. low blow if he flew out there for nothing)

Although I didn't attend an AG event, just a perspective from an outsider who would hesitate to go if the same people were involved.

While I do not know the ins/outs of everything that went down...I do not believe that Tyrant and M2K signed the contracts for sponsorship and thus did not get paid the money related to the contract...
That is what I believe I have heard.

Not quite. I was at Triple Threat (I probably met you since there were only like 15 smashers there lol), and they did agree to giving free venue to the next tourney, but only if you signed some papers (IIRC. I don't recall anything about what the papers may have said... never intended on going to another AG tourney).

And I know I, along with a few people, didn't sign any of those.

And didn't they have one of those weeklies after that tourney, which means that you wouldn't have free venue to this one anyway?

Whatever, I won't be going to this, anyway.

Wow, such shady ****. I've never heard of contracts for a fighting game tournament of this scale. I guess you guys found a loophole, but a tournament entrant should never have to sign a contract in order to obtain the prizes that he/they rightfully earned. The players should only be responsible for paying the entree fee and collecting any prizes they win. If you're gonna try to rip people off again at least be a little bit more slick about it.

Also, instead of speaking on behalf of someone else, why don't you get whoever is responsible in here so we can talk to him? You don't seem to know that much, so let us talk to someone that can fully explain the situation. I've heard a lot of terrible things about you Active Gamers lately (from both Street Fighter and Smash communities) and we should really get to the bottom of this so that if you guys run another tournament, the players won't get screwed over anymore.

money sucks
I guess when you have a lot of it it doesn't matter that much

I cant wait to come to this, active gamers are amazingly fun tourneys. From my experiences from the tourney John was one of the nicest guys i seen in smash, there was a air conditioned venue ( so it didn't smell bad like other tourneys ha ha) and active gamers will make smash as a joke game held in some guys Garage, they will get more sponsors and have tourneys with like 20,000 $, and all you guys need to do is show up and forget triple threat.

They got paid their Prize, but they also had a sponsorship deal with required a contract...for on going money...that is what required a contract.
