Smash Ace
I imagine this idea is already apparent to many of you because it's rather simple, but I don't really see it used in videos or against me, and I can't find any threads regarding it, so I figured it could be worth a little discussion.
I'll call it a false wavedash; it's when you do what you would normally do to wavedash except instead of pressing the control stick down diagonally, you press it straight down. It is, to my knowledge the fastest way to end a dash and return to a position where ground attacks and other options are available (if someone has frame data to support this or otherwise, please post it, I have been able to find no data on wavedashing specifically).
For an example of utility (probably not the best example, particularly with more skilled players, but an example nonetheless), if you notice that an opposing marth is a little trigger happy with the c-stick, a dash -> false wavedash just outside his fsmash range could trick him into throwing it out, leaving him open for punishing. An advantage of using it this way is that if the opponent calls your bluff and does nothing, you recover your faculties quickly enough to deliver a quick preemptive strike or perform an evasive maneuver (perhaps a normal wavedash) in the event that he tries to rush in and punish the feint.
It's another option on the ground that I find especially useful on final destination where, without platforms to jump to, players want to stay grounded more often in their approach. There may be other uses for it, other reasons one would want to cancel a dash quickly and regain mobility quickly that I haven't thought of.
What say ye? Can you find any examples in videos, other ways to use it, frame data etc.?
