Except for Inui, this will be a completely name free post, and is not directed at anyone specifically. Just pointing stuff out.

Example thread titles:

Inuithedoublesgenius presents: ****** tournament name, april 8th 2000009.

Somepersoneveryoneforgotabout presents: Crytime! MELEE ONLY.

I'm sure you see the difference. All over the place people are putting up these melee only threads for no reason. There's hasn't been a Brawl tournament this year that has announced itself as BRAWL ONLY. There's always melee set ups, or a side tourney going down. Which leads me to the following thesis. All strict melee players fall under the following of the representations; this is without fail:

1. Melee players, due to being new to competitive gaming, have refused to drop what they think was "Hard Work" in order to learn a new game. Without a certain understanding it might come as a surprise. The fact is, once a new game comes out, seldom is the community whole enough to keep it solely on the version before hand. That's the way things have always gone in the gaming community.

2. Melee players who are generally unknown throughout the community, will use the Melee only tag to show support to their faithful brethren. This is to get on a level of trust, and hopefully friendship, so they may reap the rewards of the inner sanctum. Many players watch youtube videos of gamers they idolize, and would cherish the idea of being a part of something so keen on their interests, while making friends, and possibly... Having fans. Due to Brawl being a larger community, or melee being more fun for them, they will shun the infant title, and keep a steady course backwards towards 80cent a minute cell phone plans, and moon shoes.

3. A complete distaste for people who play Brawl exclusively. Which leads me to: MM me in ST, Melee guy. Without ST, you'd have no smash at all.

I'm still not entirely sure why people sit and bash a video game so intensely. Perhaps it's the lack of limelight, or the mediocre sense of accomplishment they once worked so hard for. The fact is, you're splitting the community more than it has to be.

Now, if Meta knight is banned, this will separate the community further, as someone pointed out to me. Melee, vbrawl, vbrawl-mk, Bbrawl, Brawl+. That's the biggest uphill climb a community can face. This is ultimately killing competitive Smash.

In closing, stop being elitists. I wanna play both.

Tant who are you to say what's "worth" a solid competitive scene? Let the players decide what they want to play.

right, and I just decided my opinion

if other people want to play it by all means

but its existed for like 5-6 months and you had 18 entrants at herb, meanwhile other tournaments were much larger, and the biggest event had 40, the players have decided, or so it would scene

don't take offense to my opinion of it, buddy, some players have decided it is, like yourself. I just stated that I think its not worth a competitive scene (albeit, I'm entering on saturday, time to win)

I'm going to agree with this statement.

(Not going to lie, I really don't care what this thread is about. I didn't read it)

The way you worded it, it didn't sound like you were just saying that you prefer the other games. It sounded like you were saying Brawl+ doesn't deserve to be a tournament game, which is pretty ****ed up.

It wasn't an official event at HERB. We did it in our hotel room after Melee ended at 3am. I'd say 18 was pretty **** good under those circumstances and without anyone even knowing if it was gonna happen.

We've had 2 40+ Brawl+ tourneys and it's gonna be much bigger than that at Pound 4 (and hopefully at LLHS in October).

I'm actually not trolling.
Liar. If you read the stickies you'd see
"Sticky: The MD/VA Brawl Tournament Discussion Thread -NEXT- Chu Biweekly, Falls Church VA (Multi-page thread 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page"

I don't see any mention of Melee, Brawl+, 64, etc. in the title. That makes it Brawl only. You know there isn't a single player who made a thread that has Melee only in it that falls into any of those categories.

Stop being bad at trolling.

You forgot 4:
People who genuinely think melee is a better game

Seriously, your post is oozing with a profound distaste for a group of players just because they don't play the same game as you. The games aren't even similar, why should we be compelled to switch over to brawl? No, not because of the random psychological reasons you pulled out of your ***, but because we prefer the pacing and style of melee over brawl.

Your entire post hinges on the assumption that because brawl is newer, it's objectively better than melee. That's obviously not the case.

I'm sorry if all of the "MELEE ONLY" threads on smashboards are getting to you, but what can I say? There are a lot of people who share my preference for melee, and all for the same reason. (protip: none of the ones you listed)

ALSO: I like how you call us elitists but attribute our disinterest for brawl to either a lack of fighting game experience, a "weakness in personality", or an irrational hatred towards brawlers

Personally, my thought on Brawl is it's not a bad game. It was just designed to not be competitive because Melee got too crazy and Nintendo wants the game to be for everyone. Though that doesn't stop the Smash community from playing it that way and finding new tricks in it. Now with the threads for tournies/fests I really wish it would say in the topic name it's focusing on. Then I wouldn't have to open the thread and be disappointed.

I used to complain about melee complainers, but then I just realized that I was also complaining and therefore adding to the problem. Everyone should just play what they like and stfu.

Kind of ironic to tell Melee players to stop being elitists, and then disregard someone's comments because he's not a big name player (as implied by "Who are you?"), dontcha think?

This is pretty much the way it should be. You won't see me enter a Brawl tournament, because I don't enjoy the game when played at a competitive level. But if you're having fun, who am I to say that your fun is less warranted then the fun I have with Melee?

Saying this, I feel like there are plenty of people who don't fall into diem's three categories. My main reason for not playing Brawl in tournaments is so I don't get good at it. Then, I can play my brothers and friends outside of the brawl community and I won't discourage them from playing.

Brawl and melee are 2 totally separate games

DM, most people have gotten over the whole "brawl sux" mentality. Most of the "MELEE ONLY" tournaments are simply advertising their tournament properly. The majority of tourneys that pop up are brawl, so when its a melee tourney, people write that. If its Melee and Brawl, they write Melee and brawl. If its brawl only, people typically write nothing at all cuz its usually expected.

No one's being elitist, its a title. As for not wanting brawl at melee tourneys, its cuz we dont find the game fun at all, and it takes up tourney setups. Thats like an SF4 player coming in and asking for a SF4 setup at brawl only tourneys. They are 2 separate games, just like brawl and melee. If brawl people still find melee fun and want to have side tourneys, do it, but dont tell us to start throwing in brawl setups so you can feel included.

As far as I'm concerned melee and brawl are two totally separate games, just like Halo and Madden. If you have a venue that can support both games, go for it. Most venues cant, and they end up running real late due to time constraints. I actually wish we had a separate tournament area for the three games, its kinda a pain to search through tons of threads to find what you're looking for.

tl;dr summary- quit ur *****in, and play whichever game you enjoi :bee:
