OK I have a question for you...If your version of "God" never does anything, and there is no afterlife, and there are no commandments to follow...what's the point in believing? I mean, I'll grant you that God COULD exist. But if the fact that this God exists has no impact whatsoever on your life, what does it matter. Essentially, you're going to function just like an atheist would.
Just what does your god do? By God, do you mean creator? or just supernatural being? I'm definitey confused by your belief system so far, so I guess I'll wait for the promised expansion.

for those still stuck on 9/11 then listen to this.(im not going to quote what this person said because i dont remember word for word but anyways). This person said why god was there when 9/11 happened. The person explained that god was causing traffics to avoid the number of casualties that could have happpend. God made sure that the tragic event could result in the least number of casualties as possible. One example of this is how many people were at work when this happened. People were just arriving to work before this happened but they werent in the buildings. (this tragedy wasnt well machinated. Even tho many people died, the terrorist failed to calculate the number of people that are at work after 9:00 o clock in the WTC buildings now back to what the person said) God made sure that the people in the philidelphia incident were calm even tho there were terrorists in the plane. They did so by calling their loved ones and saying that they were going to be fine. They fought back even when everything was against them.[/quote]
I whole heartedly believe what this person said and i will also get flamed for believing too.

and the reason you'll get flamed is because your 'god' gets to take credit for any perceived 'good' things, but is not powerful enough to avoid the whole catastrophy all together.

I'm interested to hear white rob's theories, any fresh perspective is always welcome.

Actually God created Hell FOR satan to burn in. Contrary to popular belief, satan isn't invulnerable to hellfire. Why would God give satan the ultimate pleasure, with no punishment for the atrocities he commited against him? That doesnt sound justified to me. Also, it was very christian like to say "guess which one you're going to"

Lol, wow that's WAY too many to mention. Not that you could probably even remember them (what a christian you are)

Lol, actually the point of believing is supposed to be so you wont be away from God. But actually, you hit the nail on the head. A good threat works wonders.

We have free will, he doesnt directly affect our conscience

"God is both our creator and a supernatural being that knows everthing about the past, present and future."

So he KNOWS exactly WHO is going to go to hell. That's not very nice. If you already know something like that is gonna happen, and you don't stop it, that's just evil[./b]

The Goddess is going to punish you, jet. Your belief in your false god shall be your downfall. You must assept her as your mother and the giver of life, otherwise I can't be responsible for what happens to you once you die. I'm not doing this for my ego, I don't want to see you go to the wrong afterlife. You MUST accept her if you wish to be spared eternal torment.

OK jet LOL. Not only was my post not directed at you, it was even specifically directed only to White Rob. I know Christianity's views of God, and I was asking for his and his alone. But thanks for the normal unthought-out Christian rambling that you've become so famous for. Amusing as always. Especially the bit about your numerous head injuries...that explains a lot, actually.

And Mewtwo, the fact remains that God, being omnipotent, would have to be responsible for everything that happens, good or bad. If he wanted to save lives, how come he didn't make the terrorists get caught? Give me a break. You can't credit God with all good stuff that men do but then say he wasn't involved in the bad stuff...Obviously God is the embodiment of good so out of the two choices, that he's behind every event and that he's behind no events, it has to be no events since he can't do evil.

Yes, I realize the post wasn't directed at me. Will you forgive me? :) God doesn't necessarily have to be responsible for every event just because he's omnipotent. God allows things to happen, he doesn't make them happen, which brings us to...

If he wanted to save lives, how come he didn't make the terrorists get caught? Give me a break.

Some other event in the future (which is part of God's plan) is dependent on the events of 9/11. What that event is, we don't know. God would not allow 9/11 to happen if there wasn't some reason.

You can't credit God with all good stuff that men do but then say he wasn't involved in the bad stuff...

God is involved in everything seeing as he created everything (at least in my mind). God doesn't make bad things happen though. Plus, I don't give credit to God because the guy who invented the first computer did so, but because God made it possible for anyone to do this. There IS a difference.

God is involved in everything that happens... But he isn't responsible for any of the bad things...

If I create a race of miniature humans and I give them free will and one of them kills thousands of people by crashing a plane into a building, am I involved? Yes, because I created them, but am I responsible for someone ELSES actions? No. HUGE difference. Don't be so quick to write someone off as a mindless human being. Just because someone doesn't have the same mind as you doesn't mean they are mindless.

Jet if you were such a good christan you would know the answer the church gives. They say that God fully reveled himself through Jesus so he dosn't need to come down anymore. Also why do you call them the ten commandments they're the fifteen.

There is a God or else nothing would be. Just think about it. Only God could have made everything happen from the beginning. Also, he only appears to those who have the most faith in him, his son Jesus and Mohammed. Although the two mentioned had completly different beliefs, God probably gave those beliefs to them because God knows that the beliefs he gave them both are the ones best suited for them. Those people were also the two most worthy of getting this. Those who don't have any faith are ignored and the bad ones are totally destroyed. The answer to why God doesn't talk to us now is that he does but people just don't take enough time to stop and listen. Enough said.

No, if you do nothing while your miniature people kill other miniature people, you are not involved. You are merely observing, but in effect, for creating the little people he is responsible. If you do something to them, influence them, then you are involved and responsible.

The man that drives the getaway car for the robbery is just as responsible for the robbery as the man who went in and got the money. Different roles, same action, they were both involved and both responsible. The guy on the street who watches as it happens is neither involved nor responsible. He had no influence on the people, and he didn't try to stop them, thus no responsibility.

These are examples on how involvement in an action correlates to having responsibility for the consequences of the action. If you create little robots to do your house work, and they go out and kill your next door neighbors, you are responsible. You created the robots. You let them go out and kill people. You didn't stop them. They were your responsibility as creator, and are responsible for anything they do.

If only I could get my hands on such a cattle prod...

God knows everything before it happens. He decided to make people have free will. He knew exactly what everyone was going to do ahead of time, yet their will is and they can do anything they want and god automatically knows it ahead of time... (who cares if it's an impossible paradox)

He decided to make people in such a way that most of them don't belive in him. He wants most people to go to hell and burn, because he knew ahead of time that most of the people who have ever lived were headed straight to hell. He could have created us differently, but this is the way he preferred, the way in which most go to hell. Why must most humans be doomed to eternal torture? Nobody knows, it's beyond human comprehention. It's part of his master plan. But he loves us all anyway. So worship him, and don't forget to make large donations the next time you're at church. god likes money so you can go to heaven. be a good sheep.

First you point out the free will, god's will paradox, then you say he wants us all to go to hell, but he loves us! Hilarious!!!!

How very George Carlin of you.

Umm...what G4F said.

'God knows everything before it happens. He decided to make people have free will. He knew exactly what everyone was going to do ahead of time, yet their will is and they can do anything they want and god automatically knows it ahead of time...'

Things like this just confuse. How can a Christian truly believe they have free will if what you said is true.

The second section is debatable. At the end of the day who are you to judge which of us willl go to heaven and which go to h***? Maybe its not that hard. I always though that as long as you were truly sorry for what youve done in your past you could go into heaven. That shouldnt be too hard for most theists and atheists, which is the majority of the world so maybe most people wont go to h***

Now im wondering if the last sentences were sarcastic and if you meant any of that.

G4F, even if God is responsible, which I don't believe he his, you have to remember there are other factors. God allowed it to happen for a reason. Back to my mini-humans. One of them kills thousands of people. For all you know, half the people in that building could have caused other people to go to He11. What if half of those people caused 3 other people to go to He11? God allowed it to happen because he would rather 1,000 people go to He11 (possibly people that never would have become Christians anyway) instead of 4,000. This is just an example. If God really is responsible for the death of all these people, it is not in vein.

EDIT-The free will/God's will paradox is non-existant. Oh, and also, God created us so that no one would go to He11. You people have too much of a misunderstanding of Christianity to even begin talking about it.

Jeez Entropy, you must be some kind of atheist fanatic.... About 2/4ths of the posts (well, maybe not that much) you have posted have been about not beleiving in God or something....... Anyways, There is a whole bunch of books about Heaven and the like. And no, I would seriously doubt Hell being like thousands of people screaming in a lake of fire. A good book that describes Heaven and Hell exactly how I beleive is What Dreams May Come....The book, not the movie. A raging firy feild full of blood and dirt and people in pain and agony is not that scary. People with no beleif, no spirit or soul, just sitting, in a total sheild of melancholy. With houses where nothing works, no light, no love, no feelings. Just lifeless beings staring forward in a catatonic like state, soon, knowing you'll become one of those meaningless souls. That's scary. Heaven is like you described, sort of, not clouds and angels flying about, unless that's what you expected and wanted. No pain, no need to eat, you would have organs cause your so used to them, you could build with your mind... It's all mental......

Well, I do beleive God is there...... Though alot of the things in the Bible didn't make any sense (I.E. Adam and Eve). Sure, there isn't much proof, but I guess you gotta have faith, and if you say, "I leave your beleifs alone and you leave mine." Why do you bring up topics like this?

Pathetic? You only posted what I already knew. The holy trinity. My question was how they are connected. Jesus is the son of god, he is not god.

I especially like gos, the one who lives inside you... He's the one who told that women to kill her kids, right?

it's one of those apple jacks answers they just are... ok really physically he was God's son but spiritually he was God. God took the form of a man when he came to earth

I honestly don't know if the Holocaust was part of God's plan. God only has Satan on a leash right now. That means Satan is allowed to do whatever he wants within God's limits. So God allowed the Holocaust to happen. I'm not saying Satan controls people but he definitely can make things look a lot better than they really are. I believe this is what happened in the Holocaust.

Now, about the paradox, don't just say we are wrong. For instance: I have free will to choose to wear a red shirt or a blue shirt. God knows I will choose the blue shirt, and I do. So do I really have free will? I say yes, because if I would have chosen the red shirt, God would have known before that I would choose red. What we do is not dependent on what God knows. What God knows is dependent on what we do. Do you see what I'm trying to say?
We weren't sent to earth to avoid Hell. We were sent to earth to honor God. That's kind of like asking why we are sent to school to avoid failing all our classes.

He knows which you will choose before you choose it. Such as the day before, or the week before that that day you will be wearing a red shirt. You have no choice in the matter because god already knew before hand.

Well, since a few people have shown interest, I'll try to define in my interpretation of what God is as best I can. Sorry about not responding promptly, I was away this entire weekend and did not go online at all.

The best way I've found to first describe God is to use a few examples and analogies that I've noticed. First one: God is much like heat, in that we know heat exists, but we can't really physically describe it since heat just exists as energy, and since energy really has no matter this would be impossible to give a physical definition to...let alone give a gender role to.

Sure we can feel it when we are warm or cold or whatever, so it isn't a perfect analogy, but hopefully my other analogies will also add a few more interesting twists to it.

God also works like gravity. Gravity can't really be explained outside of larger objects being able to attract smaller ones onto its surface. We know it exists if we try to jump up and down, but is there really an ulterior reasoning behind it? It just works. We see examples of it everyday, but its pretty hard to really imagine it physically. Yet we know we are bound to gravity when we see that our feet touch the ground.

I've found that there is also one other thing pretty much everyone has experienced in their lifetime, but can't really come up with a purely logical explanation for why it occurs: emotions. Everyone realizes that they'll feel anger, joy, fear, and even love sometime in thier life. And let's take that love example and build upon it. If we have ever felt like we are falling in love, you can't really express it by itself. It seems that being in love can only be defined thru the actions that are created by love. A common interpretation of love is that you would die for person that you love. Love becomes the controlling instrument in this statement, and the person who is in-love is the vessel.

So now that I've completely confused you, wut does being in-love, gravity, and heat have to do with God...really? Now even though I recognize the impact that social norms have over emotions, it is still interesting that people will react differently with emotions. Are these emotions really just random synapses that pop into our brain as a reaction to certain events that may occur in our lives? I have concluded that this is not the case. Our minds would not operate correctly if all of those synapses were just randomly occuring. Sure, we have the blueprint of DNA in there, but still those are just instructions. Something needs to activate and hold together those instructions. I think that God is the link here. Somehow, God is a sort of a binding element of our psyche, it is our soul. God exists within, essentially, but also is able to flow outwards through our actions, which are a by-product of our emotions. This is how it relates to heat and gravity, since each of those flow outwards, but can only be experienced thru an outside vessel having the force used upon it.

So here's a lil diagram for you visual people:

God-->Emotions-->Actions

I know my theory has tons of flaws in it, many of which I haven't figured out myself. This is just the closest thing to a logical explanation of God that I could come up with.

I guess I will address individual questions now that I've explained my God theory to a somewhat complete extent. Bring 'em on.

I know where you live....and you can't do anything
u say the bible contradicts itself many times? well, that is very true, yet u must remember that this divine entity, known as God, did not write the bible. it was just a few followers who wrote it, and may have written it different than it was actually done...
There is no logical way to prove that there is a God, yes, i admit its true...but there is also no logical way to prove that there isn't a God...so we're stuck from where we began.
i believe there is such an entity, so...X, plz don't flame me just cuz of that... :D

Okay, now, I'll admit, I kind of skipped a few posts in this massive topic... but it's just so darn repetitive! Can you people find no fresh arguments to raise?

Now, I, for one, beleive that yes, someone, or at the very least, something, created this universe we live in. If "God" is the name we give it... then so be it. Here's MY interpretation, or an idea I have, at least:

Anyone ever play that game as a kid, Broken Telephone I think it was, where you'd sit in a circle and pass on a message? As you kept it going, it'd slowly get more distorted and would change... so what if, at one point, humanity knew as a collective whole, that some form of "God" did exist? As the ages passed, renegades and individuals (or even large groups with opposing views) might misinterpret it, and the message would be come fragmented and twisted. Us being the dumb humans we are, might have decided to turn it into a deity to worship (if it wasn;t one already)and soon thereafter comes all the different religions we have today. Therefore, every religion could theoretically be "correct" because we're all worshipping the same "God," just different versions of him/her/it...

Even if you think that's bull, I'd just like to take this opportunity to say STOP with the freaking "I-never-saw-or-felt-God-so-therefore-he-must-not-exist" crap. This is utter bull.

Let's say someone tells you that a dog is standing on your lawn (lame analogy, but bear with me here). Now, you and me both run to the lawn, and the dog is gone! But... there's a little dog turd left behind (hehe, I'm liking this analogy more and more). Now, I can say there MUST have been a dog there, 'casue there's a turd! You can say there WAS no dog, and that that guy was playing a joke on you (bad joke, eh?) but no matter which way we look at it... SOMETHING had to make that turd, right? So whether we decide to ignore it, worship it, or WHATEVR - someting had to make that turd!

Now, after all that deep symbolism and whatnot (God is a happy, nice, benevolent animal and we are it's turd, yes, I'm the master of symbolism, aren't I? :p ) I end with a small stab at some of these forum members. Everyone who goes around proclaiming that there must not be a God, only becasue they have no solid physical evidence, is just incapable of realizing the truth. Something DID make this place we exist in, and if you're too weak to accept or embrace that, then I think you're the ones at fault. At least the people who beleive in a God here are brave enough to embrace something like that, and even more so to bring their beleifs before a pack of wolves like yourselves.

Sure, I know, some are over the edge about it, and are content to merely run around posting "God loves you!" "Bless you all!" While I'm sure these messages are well-meant, they do indeed become annoying and have no real backbone behind their beleif (or at least, none that hey state, at any rate).

I hope you've all enjoyed my little rant. I'm sure it'll receive much flaming and ridicule, but unless you can come back with something better than "Gee whiz, the bible contradicts itself!" (which has only been brought up 1,000,000 times already, and it covered by my theory) than my work here is done.

Good night

P.S. It's also nice to beleive in an afterlife - kinda disappointing to think all this is for nothing, eh? :D

^ I'm... not entirely sure.... But I think he just equated the universe with a dog turd.

That's a new one.

And, by the way, I have studied early religion quite a bit. They are all very similar. They also all have multiple gods, and those gods were based on the land they lived on.

Judaism was the first religion to have "one-true-God-that-is-all." So if you want to believe in something because early man believed in it.... Worship all the hundreds of thousands of millions of cultural gods around the world.

Or else, worship a dog turd.

Whatever floats yer boat.
