I saw her one way, then I saw her the other for a long time, then back to the first way...

Yeah, when I first glanced at it, it seemed like she was spinning, if facing me, "to my right". Then I read the article, and they used the words clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Now I see it clockwise. Which would be spinning to my left if she were facing me. I can't get her to spin counter-clockwise anymore.

I don't know if it was the words "Clockwise" that triggered me to look at it differently or what, but it's freaking me out.

Edit: Back to counter...

After tons of frustration, I've finally got to where I can just switch back and forth... I hate crap like this. xD

Whoa, it took me a minute, but I found out how to get her to change directions.

I can only see it going clockwise. Oh wait, anti-clockwise for a sec there.

This is pretty cool... when I first saw this, I was convinced that it was a joke and that she was actually changing directions every so often (ie, the animation was rigged).

But after a while, I was able to get her to "switch" direction at will. Interesting stuff.

That's hilarious (the thought of the picture showing what side of the brain you use most). I figured out how to get it to change directions!

First of all, that's the hottest optical illusion/psychology test EVER!

Second of all, I was only able to see her rotating clockwise. Try as I might, I can not see her turning counterclockwise. I know that I should imagine her leg in front when I think it's in back, but it's to no avail. That is very odd, because I can usually see every aspect of an optical illusion type thing like this.

That means I'm right-brained, I guess. Although I'd love to know the scientific explanation behind that. I don't see how seeing someone rotate a certain way can mean you're right or left brained.

Also, after reading the descriptions of right- and left-brained people, I'd have to say that I'm more left- than right-brained. Although "getting it" and "seeing the big picture" are a couple of my greatest strengths.

EDIT: I'm going back to it, and it is so frustrating that I can't see her turning counterclockwise. This is really annoying me for some reason.

Woa...at first it was going counterclockwise to me for a good while. Then I looked to read about the left/right brain characteristics, looked back at the image, and it was going clockwise. Now I can't revert it back >.>

Interesting. This exact thing seems to have happened to many people.

Does it mean that most people think they're right-brained, so after they read about the attributes of a right-brained person, they see the image rotating in the direction that would validate their pre-conceived notions of their self?

Again, interesting.

I don't believe the right brain/left brain component of this thing. It just seems like an interesting optical illusion. There's nothing about it that would obviously trigger a right brained or left brained person to see it rotating a certain way, and they don't give any explanation about why that should be the case.

So, yeah, it's a cool optical illusion, but that's all it is, unless someone proves otherwise.

First I saw it rotating counterclockwise. Then I changed windows and changed back a little while later, and I saw it rotating the other way. I hadn't read the explanation of right/left brained traits between seeing the two types of rotation, so there's no way I would have mentally forced a change in how I saw it.

I think it's just an optical illusion. No more, no less.

I believe Mediocre is right about this. I first saw it clockwise, but I could switch any time I wanted by closing my eyes first, picturing it moving the other way around, opening my eyes again and *poof* it's moving contra. I don't believe this has anything to do with the usage of your left/right brain.

im the opposite... i can only see it going counter-clockwise, not clockwise... weird...:ohwell:

The left-right brain aspect is nothing more than a statistical analysis. I don't think it is implying that one side will see it one way first. It's just observing that the dominant brain half tends to see it one particular direction first. I can see it both ways as well.

No matter how hard I try, no matter how long I look, I can't get this to go clockwise. Oh well, I doubt that this experiment really tells that much about a person as the website says it does.

Each time the moving leg crosses the still leg, you can get her to change whatever direction you want. Just imagine it either going in front of or behind that leg.

Thank you for that little ray of humor, omfgomfg.

I think I know what this is. Someone saw a cool optical illusion. They wanted to make it even cooler by saying if you saw it one way, you'd be this, and if you saw it another way, you'd be that. They decided to use right-brained and left-brained. They listed some attributes of right-brained and left-brained people and called it an article.

In other words, what we have here is a fraud. I really doubt there's any scientific basis for this. It is an optical illusion with a lie attached to make it more interesting.

It's the legs. There's no distinction of when the depth between each leg changes. Thus, she can be rotating however your brain sees it.

Ok this is really absurd. I was stuck counterclockwise. I clicked the link to see it again once more just a few minutes ago, and it's going clockwise for me now.

Fantastic illusion i must say.

There is no way that she can be turning counter clockwise. I have yet to see it, and thus think you all are making it up.

Hmm... Pythag, you must be a little confused. We are not making this up. Although I cannot see it turn counterclockwise, like you, for reasons unbeknownst to me, I am positive that the illusion is a "symmetrical" one, if you know what I mean.

When you see the leg or arm go from right to left, you think it's in front of the body. Likewise, when they're going from left to right, you see it as behind the body. If only you were able to see the leg and arm going right to left as behind the body, and the leg and arm going from left to right as in front of the body, the dancer would appear to turn counterclockwise. It's a problem with you (and me), and not the illusion.

You ought to be aware that we're talking about a rotating silhouette, not an actual video of a spinning dancer.

EDIT: You know, I totally misunderstood the meaning of your post. Nevermind this post.

 Stare at it for a long time. She'll switch on you eventually.

it took me a little time, but i was able to get her to spin the other way. i was surprised by the descriptions for right brain/left brain usage tho.

For those who can't get it to switch try this.

When you click the link look to the words at the left and DO NOT FOCUS AT ALL on the illusion. She will appear to go counter clockwise

Now look at the words on the right and you will see that she is spinning clockwise this time

It may take a while for it to work and to help you NOT focus on the picture you could read the words =)

Like someone said earlier, you have to concentrate on the shadow of her feet to make it change directions. Or rather that's just how I got it to switch.

Had a really hard time getting her to change directions normally, but switching between an msn conversation and her (always visible mind) she seems to go beserk and won't stop switching.
