So, what do you guys think? Who are you hoping wins? Do you think anyone got nominated that didn't deserve it? How about films that were left out? Personally I'm hoping that "Up in the Air" wins best picture and adapted screenplay. It was by far my favorite film of the past year.

I never saw Avatar, I have no interest in seeing Avatar, and if it beats Inglourious Basterds, I will hate it more.

What the **** at no nominations for Moon? That movie was easily the best acted movie of 2009. ****ing politics.

I'm crossing my fingers for Monique to win one. If Avatar wins anything other than best cinematography i'm going to vomit

The Blind Side being a nominee is crushingly hilarious.

My predictions:

Basterds will get mostly snubbed.Either Avatar or The Hurt Locker will win Best Pic.

Best Director-James Cameron

Original Screenplay: Inglourious Basterds or maybe Hurt Locker?

Adapted Screenplay: Up in the Air

Actress: Sandra Bullock

Best Supporting actor: Christoph Waltz for Basterds (if this doesn't happen it's heresy)

Best Animated: Up

Best Cinematography: Avatar

Best Editing: Avatar. hopefully Basterds instead though

Visual Effects: this should be obvious

AVATAR FTW!! lol jk
Seriously though, Avatar's most likely going to win one or more. Visual Effects is a shoe in win for Avatar.
I'd like District 9 to win something though, Crimson may I ask what's your beef with Avatar?
Am I the only one who thought precious was boring and melodramatic?:ohwell: It's something I've seen a thousand times and anyone could have played Monique's role. Martin Lawrence in the big momma's house suit could have done Monique's role imho.

I wouldn't be surprised if Avatar swept it.

I saw it tonight, and while better than I thought, it was really just fluff for me. Visually, it set the tone for the next couple of years, if not next few decades, but story did nothing new or unique, which would have been refreshing. The entire movie just felt like a vehicle to show a new style of cinema, and I wasn't a fan at all.

Yeah, I don't think Basterds is gonna win anything.

Also, I had no idea District 9 was an adaptation. Turns out it's inspired by a short film from 2005. The IMDB trivia page is also enlightening in other ways:

"The mutilated animal carcasses in the background of many scenes were real and with only a few exceptions, were already in the real slums and shacks used for the filming."

REAL GOD**** ALIEN CARCASSES

WHY AM I THE ONLY PERSON FREAKING OUT?

The only real 'Oscar Movie" movie I saw from this year was The Hurt Locker, which was more generic than I expected. But still good.

Not a lot of surprises. Hurt Locker winning was pretty much the most likely result. Good for Jeff Bridges, who was pretty much a shoe-in. I'm glad Sandra Bullock got the award, just to have her win an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year. Good for Kathryn Bigelow winning best director as well. Christoph Waltz, no surprise. Up for best animated was pretty much a given, though a win for Coraline would have made me happy. But if Up was the only one to be nominated for best picture of the animated lot, then it was probably (hopefully) the best of them. Glad to see Avatar get all the technical awards it deserved.

Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris should have been the host. His opening number was awesome, and Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, funny though they usually are, were a bit of a disappointment. Actually, NPH should probably host the Tony's, Emmy's, and Oscar's every year.

I am enjoying all the fanboy tears being shed from Avatar losing to The Hurt Locker, but that didn't deserve it either, but certainly more than Avatar did.

I was happy that Avatar won nothing major. It sucked that Tarantino still gets no credit for being a genius, and he should have won best screenplay.

I hated Ben Stiller, Oprah, and Streissan. Still was totally off-base in wearing make-up from a movie that didn't get nominated for best make-up then doing a long joke with it. Oprah totally stunned all other actress nominees by praising Steep (while good, other people were nominated too). I hated Streissan trying to make the beat director a race or sex thing; Bigelow was a good director regardless of sex. Announcing "it has finally happened" was tasteless because you taunted the director of Precious.

I would call cinematography a major category, personally, but I assume you mean the "Big 5" and the like.

Tarantino not winning Best Original Screenplay is one of the only three predictions I got wrong.

I knew Avatar was going to win Art Direction but Dr. Parnassus deserved it the most, with Sherlock Holmes behind it.

I'm not a big fan of the Hurt Locker (I'm even less a fan of Avatar :p) but given the competition in its categories it rightfully won, ESPECIALLY Editing.

I was so glad that Ajami didn't win Foreign Film.

So what I got wrong:
Original Screenplay - Inglorious Basterds
Foreign Film - Ajami
Cinematography - The White Ribbon

Hey it's better than the more predictable last year where I only missed one...

Really, the only thing I'm really disappointed with is Sandra Bullock winning, even though I expected it 100%.
****ty actress pulls out a non-convincing serious role in a movie with a message = high chances. Seriously The Blind Side was pretty bad.
