Apex 2012
= Official Melee Videos Thread =

Hey everyone,

I'll be managing the official Apex 2012 Melee videos thread, as well as actually coordinating the entire recording staff at the tourney. We've put together a detailed plan that will allow us to record every bracket match... yes, you read that right, every single one. So rest assured, this won't be a repeat of the recording disaster at ROM 4, not even close. You WILL get to see bracket matches of your favorite top players. I'm also trying to make this thread look as professional as possible, so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Venue Archive:

University of Michigan venue:

Mason Hall Room 1427
Room 1427
419 S. State Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Driving Directions:
1. Drop off your TV at the temporary lot in front of Mason Hall.
2. Go park at the Liberty Square structure, which only charges a $2 one-time fee on weekends.
3. Walk back to the venue, it's a 5-minute walk or so.

If you plan on driving to the tourney, then please familiarize yourself with these parts of downtown Ann Arbor! Print out the maps if you have to.

University of Michigan venue:

Pierpont Commons East Room
2101 Bonisteel Blvd
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

We're moving to a new, bigger venue! Pierpont Commons is the center of activity on UM North Campus and includes food options, a convenience store, TV lounge, piano lounge, bookstore, computer labs, and of course the room we'll be playing in.

Photos:

Driving Directions:
1. First, drop off your TV if you brought one. It's a 10-second walk from the TV dropoff spot to the venue room, so don't cop out! The venue room is exactly where the "A" is marked on the map.
2. Go park at one of the free parking lots on Hayward St (look for signs everywhere that say Parking Enforced Mon-Fri) or park at the paid visitor lot right next to the venue if you're super lazy.
3. Walk back to the venue, it's a 5-minute walk or so. Follow the arrows if you're unfamiliar with UM North Campus. If you're lost, ask someone where Pierpont Commons is, all the local students will know.

University of Michigan venue:
Undergraduate Science Building
Room 1230
204 Washtenaw Ave
Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Driving Directions and TV Dropoff:
1. First, if you brought a TV, drop it off at Palmer Dr right below the venue. Walk inside the parking structure and take the elevator up to the "PL" Level.
2. You can then park at the Palmer Structure ($1.10 per hour) right below the venue, or you can go park at the usual Liberty Square Structure ($3 one-time fee) which is further away but cheaper overall.
3. Go back to the venue, USB Room 1230. It's a short ride up the elevator if you parked at Palmer, or a 10-minute walk if you parked at Liberty Square.

Michigan State University venue:

Shaw Hall, East Lower Lounge

Great location right in the center of campus. The East Lower Lounge is located on the bottom floor of the building. When you first walk into the Shaw Hall, find the flight of stairs near the entrance (either the right or left, depending if you enter from East or West), then walk all the way down to the bottom floor. There should be signs to help guide you to the room.

IMPORTANT: Both venues for this tournament series are located in university buildings. Consequently, everyone must leave the venue in GREAT CONDITION to be able to hold class there the very next day.

* No drugs or alcohol anywhere in not only the venue, but the entire building.
* CLEAN UP TRASH WHETHER IT'S YOURS OR NOT. The venue has to look presentable after we leave.
* Do not wander around the rest of the building. We have our own area designated for Smash.

These venues are not easy to secure! If you fail to comply with the rules the TOs have set, you are only hurting the Smash community. It is critical that we maintain good standing with our respective schools.

Parking/Housing
========

Michigan State University parking:

All parking highlighted in green is free over the weekends. The parking right on front of the hall is usually full though. If you can find an open spot, feel free to park there, otherwise, use the Shaw ramp. The ramp also has signs everywhere saying "Visitors/Students Park In Meters Spaces," just ignore it, it only applies to the weekdays.

Michigan State University venue:

Fortress Comics and Games
425 Albert Avenue
East Lansing, MI 48823

The Shaw venue from past SWEETs was unavailable, so we're running this tourney at a card shop nearby! There is a spacious 1700 sq ft room in the basement that the owner has rented out to us for the day. Make sure you check out the maps and know where to go, because I don't know if anyone will have reliable cell phone service in the card shop basement to help you out.

1. If you have a TV, drop it off at the venue first.
2. Park at one of the free parking lots a few minutes away on campus (marked in green) or the paid parking structure across the street from the venue (marked in red).

Venue Policies:

* No drugs or alcohol anywhere in or around the venue!
* CLEAN UP TRASH WHETHER IT'S YOURS OR NOT.
* We have our own area designated for Smash. Be courteous to the card shop owner and customers in the other non-Smash areas of the venue.

These venues are not easy to secure! If you fail to comply with the venue policies, you are only hurting the Smash community. It is important that we maintain good standing with our respective schools.

Big House 2 tentative thread:

MIDWEST MELEE APEX 2013 QUALIFIER

October 6-7, 2012
Ann Arbor, MI

It's the sequel to Road to Apex: The Big House! Last year's Melee super regional brought in 115 entrants from all over the Midwest, Canada, and even West Coast. Mega-international Apex 2013 is coming up in January, and we play an important role once again; for the second year in a row, Big House will be an Apex qualifier! The Melee community here at the University of Michigan is eager to build on the success of the first Big House, and we hope you'll join us for our second installment.

This year we're upgrading to a two-day event, while keeping the schedule reasonable to allow Midwest residents to drive back home Sunday evening in time for work/classes the next day. We're offering a complete weekend pass at a very affordable price, while still providing the best possible tournament experience. This includes top OoR attendance again from both coasts! We'll also be doing promotions and giveaways to the first few online registrants.

More details will be updated here in the coming weeks.

Smash 64 ruleset:

Team Attack: ON
Stage Select: ON

All tournament sets will be best-of-3 except the following, which will be best-of-5: Winners Finals, Losers Finals, and Grand Finals.

For simplicity's sake, the first match of all tournament sets will be played on Dream Land. From there, after each match:

1. Loser chooses counterpick stage
2. Winner chooses their character
3. Loser chooses their character

Characters:

Black DK (Right-C), Dark Samus (Down-C) and Dark Falcon (Right-C) are discouraged if Congo Jungle is the stage for visibility reasons. The opposing player may reset the match without penalty if they wish for a color change.
