In 1999 and going into the year 2000 Pokemon was HUGE!
Does anyone remember that? EVERYONE was totally CRAZY about the game, anime, figures, cards and the later movie.

I can still remember very clearly what it was like back then.
10 years may not be much to an older person, but to someone that is 17 that is a mile stone.
I can remember back to when I was 3, but I can remember a lot from 99 and 00.
Moving into 2010 I wonder what will happen over the next 10 years.
I am curious to what mistakes I will make, and I assume I will be marry over the next 10 years so I wonder who she is.

In 2020 I need to make another blog on SWF linking to this one saying; "Wow, it has been forever since I have been here, well, here is what has happened."

It's kind of weird to think about your future, especially if you're younger like most the population of SWF.

And Pokemon is still huge. Or at least the number of them.

It's still popular, but it's lost much of its social standing.

And it's about 15 years since the first game came out in Japan. Crazy.

Yah, lots of things were happening then. I wasn't too big into the series as much then though 'cause I was pretty slow on getting the games.

Really Pokemon wasn't big for me or around me back then as it was in the late 2nd/3rd generation -- it was more about spongebob squarepants or something like that. Not sure how that happened. Oh wellz though.

I feel the same way as you right now though. These next 10 years will pretty much define the rest of my life. And that pretty much goes the same for anyone around my age I guess. Gotta make the best of them.

Why is it weird to think about your future.
I spend most of my time day dreaming about the future than working on the now.
It is one of my faults, but it is who I am.

Wait, where is it still huge at?
Is like all of the lil kids still into it?

pretty much

Yep, Green came out in 95 and I think R/B came out in 98.

It pretty much does define you.
You will (more than likely) meet your spouse, get your degree, have an injury (military or stupidity), get a house and more depending on what you have already done.
Right now you are at the bottom of the tree and depending on where and how you climb you will end up in a certain spot in the branches.

I'm 19, and I definately remember the Pokemon craze when I was in grade school.

Especially the trading cards. That shizz ruled the playgrounds at recess so much that our principal banned all cards at school except for on Fridays. I didn't have much of my own money to get some of the really coveted cards *coughCharizardcough* so I concentrated more on the actual gameplay and thus played with a lot of cheap, yet completely broken cards like Prof. Oak, Bill, and Energy Removal. The Pokemon TCG was my stepping stone into MTG today :).

I'm 21, and I most definitely remember the original series hitting elementary schools across America (Canada for me). We had Battletech, Pogs, War...heads?, but then Pokemon, and it blew everything out of the water before it.
The cards were the biggest craze in my area before the show ever even came, but when the games and t.v. show came into play... Jesus... every lunch break was just a bunch of kids trading like mad men. Great memories, but it is surprising it's 10, almost 15, year old.
I actually own all the game boy / advanced / S.P. / D.S. games, and the original R/B/Y work =D

Back in my day, there were only 150 Pokemon...

Yeah I sure remember it. I was in grade school when it came out and everyone was crazy for it. PKMN backpacks, notebooks, cards, books...and I think a kid had a bike of it too.

I still have all my cards, somewhere. Including this Mew card no one knows about. It's not listed online!

Back then it was great, 150 PKMN, you'd memorize them all, watch the show, know the "Poke Rap"...even my girl friends knew about it and collected cards.

That was a good time. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood man. :)

Yeah it's still popular granted, but haha I remember those days.

The days when Pokémon was a religion. I really miss it. Weekly purchases of the TCG booster packs to enhance my deck. Hours and hours training my pokémon and perfecting their strategies so I could own my friends and Stadium.

Watching the first movie. Wanting to be a trainer irl. Havng a crush on Ash Ketchum ( STFU ).

GOOD TIMES. XD

A "religion" is a good way to describe it.
A crush on Ash?....... okaaaaaaaaaay.......
Just one quick question... are you a girl?
Going to see the first movie was epic.
I remember that. lol
You had Pikachu's vacation at the beginning. I thought that little short was one of the coolest things ever.

Talking about this has made me dig out my old yellow copy and start playing.
I haven't even beaten Brock yet. T-T

*desired team*
Pikachu
Pidgeot
Butterfree
Charizard
Venasuar
Blastoise

Mainly because that is the legit yellow team.
I always did fancy the Nido's and I like Primeape.

I guess I'm the only person that didn't like the Pokemon video games then. I had Pokemon Yellow, and I didn't enjoy it at all.

I remember having tons of the Pokemon cards, though they were more for collector's items than actually playing with them lol. And I haven't seen the anime, so... yeah.

I remember Pokemon being huge between the years of 1998 and 2000. My friends would always play it and not want to do anything else. It frustrated me because I always wanted to play football and basketball outside but they never wanted to. I thought the game would be stupid because I never liked the cartoon. I never knew how addicting the game was until 2002 when I picked it up for the first time on a long car drive. I eventually got into the game once my friends got out of it.

I always get behind on fads.

You know its sad that kids nowadays don't have anything like that.
I can honestly say I have a better understanding of economy after trading pokemon cards. You learned how to barter, you learned how to talk people into something, you learned how to do business.

Nowadays its "go online. play minigames. win fake money. buy stupid not real clothes for your stupid no real pet." Its kinda sad (and makes me realize maybe thats why competitive gaming has gone down, simply because younger would-be gamers aren't exposed to anything competitive)

Pokemon is still huge. Although its not nearly as much so, I know of certain elemantary schools where the kids still talk about and play the games. Even in my highschool, no one questions the discussing or playing of pokemon.

Me and my friends spend our 4th hour discussing our teams for when HG/SS comes out >.>

That and competitive gaming isn't easy.
It takes dedication, skill, discipline and focus. Also a sense of Fair play (only applies to Captain Falcon).

What are kids playing these days anyways?
