hmmmmmmmm, oli has to camp now to survive :S but just like people are figuring oli out... i feel that i'm figuring them out as well. this weekend i'll be playing ally possibly... i'm looking forward to it, i thought m2k was going to show up... i've been telling people i think i can beat him because it wasn't until a month ago that i could truly say that i know the MU like the back of my hand. people obviously disagree with me, but i'm ready to play m2k and be another player that adds to his upsets... with olimar. meep is going to show up to... i want to play him also, after last week, i think i know the MU enough to combat the infinites and the desynched blizzards. so yea, oli is being figured out... but i think other characters are being figured out also, fast enough to be advantageous to us.

Good **** Logic.

Some of Oli's matchups right now may seem nearly impossible to win. But at high levels of play you keep on playing them and eventually they become extremely doable.

I remember when Mikehaze or Neo used to think that Marth could never beat MK. But now, they both think that the matchup is dead even. Something like that anyway.

Matchups change over time. It's the top players that have to make it better though. They have to attempt new things and make advancements on matchups.

I already know the Peach and Snake matchup extremely well. Everyday I keep of thinking of new ways to approach the matchup to make it even easier for me to play against the characters.

I still can't handle MK though. That matchup for me is just :S. I'll keep playing it until it makes more sense though.

recently at tournies i have felt enlightened to nearly every matchup i've been playing. it just all seems to click and make sense now. i know the snake match up even better than before and now the matches against fatals snake and bizkits snake are usually heavily in my favor. i even manage to do dead even with like every mk i fight. however, there is 1 matchup that is starting to annoy me, and it's rob. robs have learned that fair beats out our smashes so it's really annoying they just spam fair and never land, and don't go above me so i can uair. just annoying but doable :D

I would say I picked up olimar to fit my playstyle, it sucks to learn that he is being figured out and characters that he used to **** are making a comeback (snake and DDD)

ok, im going to say this.

about a year ago, there was an mk description posted in oli back room pretty much saying once mk has learned the matchup it's going to be HEAVILY in his favor, as in 75-25 or better mk favor. does anyone else seem to find this is starting to come true? i can't do **** against good mk's any more, only the scrub ones who run into pivot grabs. it's getting frustrating trying to fight them and know when they are in my face there is nothing i can do.
Contradictory much?

some good olimar philosophy coming from this page....

I agree, p-s. The MK matchup seems WAY more do-able lately. And also, yeah, I'm playing FL's best consistantly, and they are adapting to the way olimar works. This, however, works in my favor, as I'm figuring out more options olimar has that I wouldn't have known beating players that "don't know wtf is going on when i fight olimar".

I'm confident I could beat M2K and ally as well.

And keep in mind, kids, when snake dthrows you, hitting up and immediatly up tilting catches them off guard the first time ALWAYS.

lol i did contradict myself pretty bad there. i've made up my mind. it's possible to go even with non-amazing metaknights, anyone at the high tier level or higher wrecks oli badly. that is my mind.

the MU itself is bad technically.... its the fact that its being played sooooooooooo much by us that mk's are being read left, right, down, up.. and every which way... i see things occur in my head before the mk even does it, thats why oli's can deal with him

since so many people play MK you have to have some experience on this match up.

random olimar thoughts from me. this hasn't failed me yet, i three stocked a snaked doing this..

a snake combo i do. at 0% grab down throw, F smash, Grab, Down throw, dash, pivot grab, back throw(off stage), Dair(spike). this has been working super well for me.

I'm recording that advanced technique I discovered a while ago. Apparently IcyLight is the only one other than myself who has put it to use, but I hope the video will convince you guys to use it.

it's pretty pro llumys, although if you do it to fast i learned it does an aerial up-b onto the stage instead of grabbing edge, but i also learned that this tether if you miss can still hit them and it surprises them. it basically works even if you mess up a little, most of the time

Here's how I do it.

1. Let go of the edge. (input: back)
2. Immediately tether. (input: up + b; it's easy to tether by moving your stick diagonally instead of up.)
3. Do not input an action before you land, or you'll grab the edge.
4. Input any action.

Edit:

If that doesn't work, try this.

1. Let go of edge. (input: up-back)
2. Immediately tether. (input: up-back + b)
3. Hold forward.
...

Anyway, after realizing that you can let go of the edge with up-back, I now know that the best way to refresh your invincibility frames is to let go with up-back, and tether with up-back+b. Obviously, you grab the edge when your tether connects it.

Edit:

This is way too good for edge mix-ups.

I started playing this game again. After homebrew was installed on my wii I lost the data. Plus, it's been a while since I've gone through it. I find it fun.

I've played over 30 hours of it so far. I'm not even half way through it yet.

Longest.
Game.
Ever.
