I think people who consider the game cringe are the kind of people who think the extent of the message of the game is “Society bad, adults bad grrr.”

People who think that obviously haven’t played the game or even know anything that’s not surface level. It’s pretty unfortunate but I do think the vocal minority would probably colour the impression of the game in the future for the worse. Heck, it’s already happening with people calling out the fandom and “Joker pfps”

and like, over half the people who say they hate Persona 5 would probably have their mind changes by actually playing the game

I’m not really talking about the message or plot as much as the aesthetic, tone, and generally “2cool4u” attitude of the game. The flashing red, white, and black; the brazenly “cool” attitudes of the protagonists; the punk rock aesthetic; e.t.c.

I mean, I think the aesthetic looks really nice

And just like Sonic Adventure, there were still be a ton of people who love it despite its desperate attempts at coolness.

I don't get how it seems like a "desperate attempt at coolness"

Trust me, it’s deeper than that. I followed the entire game via a stream, and it should be clear early in the game that it’s more than just “adults bad.”

Early in the game, you’re dealing with a manipulative volleyball coach who sexually harasses female students to the point of one of them attempting suicide because of how poorly she was treated. He’s one of several specific adults who commit high-tier atrocities and make other’s lives miserable.

I literally said I don’t think the game’s message is the problem. It’s the attempts at being “cool”.
