I get tragedy's part of the whole Spider-Man gig, but can they leave Peter alone for like... one year?

fogbadge fogbadge I like her character but this isn’t even related to my personal thoughts on her. Fridging is a sexist trope and using it on one of the most popular superheroes and symbol of feminism is ridiculously bad regardless on your feelings towards her character.

Isn’t fridging about introducing a female character purely for the purpose of killing them off rather than just killing anyone? I mean whatever else you can say about her is that they certainly didn’t do that with her.

It's especially worse in this run because she only appeared for like 12 panels.

They were teasing a big death and I was expecting them to kill off Mary Jane, because Spider-man writers are horribly out of touch with what people like and that would have easily been the worst choice. But they somehow managed to do a worse choice than that. It's honestly amazing on how out of touch and bad a choice killing Kamala is.

Fridging is about the tendancy for female characters to be killed purely for the shock value far more then male ones are in comics. It doesn't always mean the character has to be introduced purely to be killed (although that often happens). It's often used a way to make otherwise strong female characters look helpless and weak, which is why it's widely considered sexist.

In fact people always get angriest when its a strong or beloved character who gets fridged. It shows the author doesn't value the character the same way the fans do.
