you can start with pretty much anybody.
try a "revamp" first, theyre generally easier to do since you have a smash-base allready.
For example, make Toon link over, and incorperate more Wind-Waker specific moves
kirby is deadly when he can combo.

Dark Aether took the normal environment and added subtle touches to make it look completely different and unique. Having to stay in the light crystal areas also added some depth imo.
The only thing that turns me off from getting Corruption is the motion controls and people saying it's too short of a game. I heard it only has 4 actual bosses which sounds kinda lame tbh.
The disappointing part about the Annihilator is how late you get it in the game. You only end up using it in the last two boss fights.

Concerning Echoes:
I hear alot of people calling it the Scapgoat of the series (Prime, anyway). Too much backtracking, me thinks. But Metroid Prime had it WAY worse with backtracking. No compass didn't help either :/
Dark Samus wasn't too hard and the Annihilator was greatly broken.
I haven't used it much besides killing minor enemies that get on the way of the constant backtracking. I like to make games challenging by not using broken items like that.
Regardless, I think Echoes had a much better storyline and environment than Metroid. The lore in Echoes was great to read all around wherelse Metroid lacked interesting lore.
Echoes wins with all areas excluding Aether.
Metroid's areas were okay for what they were.
But Echoes wins with music.
Still haven't touched Corruption so I can't say anything about that :/
