My mother used to be very domineering during my early childhood. She would often times throw my work in the trash and do my project for me. I would then be forced to lie about doing the assignment when it was obvious that a fifth grader wouldn't be able to design a six piece historical replica of George Washington's battle garments. During my last year of middle school, there was a giant poetry contest and the top five winners would address the student body during graduation with the poem they wrote. I didn't tell my mom about the poem and worked on it in secret while I was at school. I won first place and my parents never expected me to speak in front of the entire school at my own graduation ceremony. Afterwards, my mom gave me the independence to do my own projects without having to constantly earn her approval every time. Forum boards are a commemoration and a representation of that freedom to write what I want to write, say what I want to say, and do what I want to do.
