Yeah it was the same for me. Surprisingly enough I knew how to like, wavedash and stuff before coming on to smashboards, but I didn't know how to...play very well XD. I dunno, Melee has a lot of different styles for every character since it's safe to play either aggro, defensive or a mixture. Or just plain out techy lol.
I play Peach in Melee and Ganon in Brawl. I used to main fox in melee but after playing brawl, my fingers got way too lazy XDD

Yeah uh you look for a cheap venue and you get interest on smashboards and in your community and stuff. XD Once you host the first one, it gets easier from there.

Yeah haha. It was pretty big. As big as a Canada tourney gets anyways XD.
Yeah it took a long time of planning and stuff, but it was a lot of fun. Uhhh, there's a lot of pressure because you have to deal with people's money and stuff. Plus there's always gonna be drama and you gotta iron it out and stuff.
Though, if you host a good one it's really nice cause you gain respect and people look forward to the next one. It feels amazing having a pro tell that to you. Like right after the tourney, Eggz and Kage asked when the next one would be and said they had a lot of fun, and it feels good to hear it. =P
If you get the chance, you should totally try hosting one yourself. Doesn't have to be a big one. =P
