lol looking for the literal word. But I get your point.

But basically, I do tournaments because:
.....
d) That's the only way I know they would play Balanced Brawl :C
It seems like you're saying that tournaments are the only way to get them to play Balanced Brawl (as in the mod). Have you considered the idea that they want to play real Brawl, or a different mod?

Nobody wants to play modified Brawl, lol. Well maybe P:M since it's a legit side event game.

The tournament had 3 events:
Brawl I (MK legal), Brawl II (MK banned) and Balanced Brawl.

None would be disruptive with each other.

Wth that would never work. Stick with one ruleset (I'd say Japanese or Apex) and forget the others. Do doubles and singles with that one ruleset and call it a day.

Meta Knight should be legal.

I agree with Aleate that you should stick with one ruleset. Newer players can get overwhelmed by complex rules, and it doesn't help that you're having two different rulesets along with a side event. You might even try simplifying the rules, such as by having the first match be played on a random stage and have striking normal for the second and third matches.

Unless there's a strong sentiment for MK-banned, I would recommend that you host MK-legal so as not to turn off MK players (yourself included).

Stick... with... WHAT?
Hell no.

I know it sounds stubborn, but as I said, the reason I make tournaments is in order to craft rulesets.
A smashfest, or simply sticking to Apex ruleset wouldn't allow me to do that.
However, I do not announce tournaments starting with the rulesets, I pretty much say "EVENT!! HERE!! rulesets here", simplify some elements on them, and even let slip when someone breaks not-to-important rules, like wrong counterpicks or so.

Also, this one particular event was announced since may, and everyone knew what it was going to be about.
Which makes the fact that nobody attended even more depressing....

Well you are the TO so ultimately it is your choice. I feel like perhaps the reason people didn't come to your event despite the advance notice is because your event didn't sound like an actual tournament.

Here's a little story. On the opposite side of Canada lies Nova Scotia, a small province full of awesome people with big hearts. Somebody (a BBR member, plays Marth ;)) decides to take over TO-ing. He made completely ridiculous tournament rules (eg. making Pirate Ship legal...) and he ruled with an iron fist. Needless to say, the tournament event series lacked direction and the TO himself because very unpopular. Eventually, somebody else took over and adopted a better ruleset in comparion and things were just dandy since then.

tl;dr Not sure if that story even makes sense, but having structure instills player confidence in the TO and promotes a greater sense of competition than having three distinct rulesets being used over the course of a single day.

I quite enjoyed the end of the world today.

lol that story.
I remember it, Rz was pretty upset when that happened...

The thing is, there are actually reasons why I use three rulesets.
1. I feel Meta Knight is completly okay, except when you add many stages.
2. However I love stage diversity and the other Ruleset reflects that.
3. I worked on BB's development and I don't want to let it die just like that.
4. Nobody says a damn thing about the rulesets (only when I used to experiment, they complained after the tournament, for things I too noticed that needed to be changed).
4.5. Actually nobody says a damn thing about anything, like venues, schedules, or anything.
It might not look like it, but they do have a direction (or several), because I have beliefs I firlmy stick to.
If someone else wants to be the TO and do everything themselves (which I'm pretty sure would be FD only, already happened), go ahead, I'll even attend and play with those rules even if I don't really like them (I'll complain though).

Oh, btw, we used to stick to a ruleset, MK banned, because I made a poll and people voted it. It went like 4-0. Others (me and about 6 more) commented that they really wouldn't mind.

At first I thought Aleate was talking about Shaya because he mains marth, is a BBR member and I think Pirate Ship was legal under our tourneys once upon a time. :p

But Shaya's still rather popular as a TO so I realized early on it wasn't him.

People in SLP don't go to tournaments anymore and that sucks.
We actually had the opposite happen here in Tijuana. Soid would hold tournaments so often that people helping out (such as TKD, IceDX and myself) couldn't make it a lot of the time; the tourney quality suffered and people figured that if they missed a sucky tourney they could always catch a smooth one in two weeks. This lead to people not really attending anything because there was always a tournament coming up soon. On top of that that the core Melee people started doing their own thing which left us with less attendance.

This past semester we were all busy and we only held a tourney in October. Only 9 people showed up because they thought that the tourneys were coming back and that there would be one during the long weekend of the 15th. Tomorrow we're having what may be the very last regular Tijuana Brawl tourney.

Day two (of two) of activity: Things went exactly as smooth as they did yesterday.

Meh.

I guess I am done with TOing. I love it, but apparently others simply don't care.
What makes this whole thing more hard for me to digest is the list of streams for today. I've never seen so many tournaments being streamed at the same time.

Went out. One of my friends who bigger than I am got drunk. I was helping him walk to the hotel room and he lurched forward in one big stumble. Took me down with him and I went to the ground but also hit a tree with the crown of my head, was knocked unconscious.

Came to absolutely hysterical and scared, bleeding from my head and numbness in my right arm (still there). Went to hospital today after denying treatment after it happened and cleared all the scans. No concussion or breaks or tears. Bad strain, bad sprain.

Hopefully the numbness goes away in time for apex and stuff. Feel like ****

Merry Christmas Zeldas (who, coincidentally, are the manliest smash players)! :zelda:

Zeldas hard read with fsmash all the time as an edgeguard. Hard read up smash is an interesting option at midclose range and it can poke shields and/or apply massive shield pressure. Think Riot does it once in a while and I've found success with it also (even with shield sdi).

Also, I might dedicate my next tourney to my rusty Zelda. :zelda:

2013: Manage my free time better and try to drink more water.

Wanna be healthy but gonna start slowly. Don't wanna make that ridiculous "lose weight" resolution while still being a poor college student lol.

Staying home, alone.
My family went traveling, but I had some compromises so I couldn't go.
I invited over some friends, but I am not sure if they'll come, they have their own families.
But I really wouldn't feel bad if I have to spend the whole time alone, I needed at least one day for myself.
