I've been wanting a game that did gyms that way since gen 1! Playing through Blue I'd think things like "What if my character was born in Vermillion City? How would I get to Pewter for the first gym battle? They should make it so you can do the gyms in any order!" I guess I never thought about the wild Pokemon or trainer battles though, that does complicate things a bit. If there's a workaround to that though I think it's a good premise.

Chikorita's actually my favorite starter period, I think. It might be terrible but it and Meganium are adorable.

I'm having a hard time imagining how you make an overworld like this without making nearly every trainer an optional thing that you can go out of your way to fight via HMs instead of having trainers as obstacles to progression.

I thought it seemed kinda situational too. Just play safe and if you see a Thunder Wave coming with it's fairly slow startup, then just shield it. And it also means you'd give up better recovery cuz yeah Meteor QA isn't very good

I've been fooling around with other characters once more and is turning out to be quite fun. I might actually pick him up as a secondary once I get accustomed to how he plays.

Wartortle's... okay. Not a big fan of it in particular. I do like all the turtle Pokémon I will admit.

I'm fine with it being your favorite starter and with it being cute/adorable/etc. But COOL. I'm not seeing it. In contrast, Torterra has a mountain and a tree on its back. That's hardcore.

I'd say a counter that can kill at 60% off of lemons is pretty jank, at least as far as counters are concerned. Not saying it's the jankiest thing (far from it) but it's pretty silly.

I'd like a little more jank/straight upgrades in G&W's customs (I don't think there ARE any tbh) but then I remember than even his normals have jank and Judgment is straight jank regardless and ehhh.

Power Vision is one of the stupidest customs imo. There's literally no reason to not use it over the default. Your opponent has to fear even attacking you cuz they can die at 40% from nearly anything which is pretty disgusting
