Does Stubbs the Zombie count as 1st or 3rd Party
Upon doing a little research, & correct me if im wrong, but im leaning towards 3rd party. Not realing seeing a direct connection to Microsoft unlike other titles that had support through publishing or funding (in Cupheads case).

Only argument i can see is game was made with by ex-Bungie devs in Halos engine (maybe part of why original was Xbox console exclusive) but not sure about any other details. Could have been something anyone had access to, part of their split from bungie, or something they paid for. Once again though if anyone knows more or has any details of Microsoft involvement with the game please correct me.

Will give another day for nominees, in the meantime here are mine.

1st Party
Nanashi (Phantom Dust)

Has been brought up a few times by KneeOfJustice99 in particular, havent played the game but it does look pretty interesting & fun. Rerelease is this year & with lack of other 1st party options thought it is worth one final shot (although i think Cuphead is likely a lock when he gets nominated)

3rd Party
Jade (Beyond Good & Evil)

Surprised we havent added another Ubisoft rep since the 1st game. Sequel was confirmed to still be in development at this years E3 with the cult classic from the original Xboxs generation seeing an HD rerelease back in 2011.

Cuphead
How did it take so long? His game just came out but had already gained hype over several years of previews. he'd be a Mega Man level zoner.

Commander Shepard
One last try. a new Mass Effect just came out this year in universe and while it's not the most liked game in the series nor is Shepard in it, it's still a pick that makes sense and has Xbox legacy.

1st Party
  1. Cuphead (An obvious candidate who just makes a lot of sense for this timeframe and role. No notes. He's a logical candidate.)
  2. Nanashi (This is complete personal bias from me at this point, I love this guy. Even with that aside, the recent rerelease of Phantom Dust is a good chance for him to finally shine!)
  3. Sabreman (A pretty fascinating retro candidate from the earliest days of Rare's history, and one I think could be really interesting to play as. I'm not 100% sure if he'd be a good fit specifically for DLC, but he's a really cool candidate.)
3rd Party
  1. Commander Shepherd (A character with plenty of Xbox history, and one that's gotten pretty close to being suggested before? Seems decent to me. My only concern is that it might feel like the third-party candidates of this DLC lineup are a lot of "people in spacesuits", but that's not too bad.)
  2. Jade (Honestly a really fun candidate! Even aside from her Ubisoft connections, she's a fan-favourite character who'd just have had an infusion of popularity come through, so that's pretty fun.)
  3. Stubbs the Zombie (A pretty fun candidate who'd be a neat callback to Xbox's roots in some ways, especially considering the game's various rereleases and the like.)

Stage Name: Clip Joint Calamity
Stage Origin: Cuphead (2017)

One of the levels on Inkwell Isle One, Clip Joint Calamity is a nightclub fitting in with the '30s aesthetic of the game that's entirely populated by flies, and also happens to be where you fight Ribby and Croaks. Thankfully, the terrible toadsome (get it?) aren't bothering you this time around, but while fighting, you'll be hopping up onto tables and the stage itself and causing chaos while your scuffle takes place. Of course, the band playing in the background won't stop - why would they? It just adds to the show!

Assist Name: King Dice
Assist Origin: Cuphead (2017)

A bit of an oddball, and someone I think would be a lot of fun to play around with. When summoned, King Dice would leap into the background and simply use one of his hands to march in front of you - with the effect depending on your distance from the opponent. If you're close enough to them, he'll simply lift his hand up and try and smash them, burying them in the process - but if not, he'll pull out a trio of cards and get them to march forward on his behalf. Opponents hit by them tend to get carried along too, so you might wanna avoid the ledges if caught in their trap!

Inkwell Hell Casino

Think a casino themed stage would be cool & distinct with some firey hell elements. Final world of game that plays big role to overall story.

Elder Kettle

A support assist that will give player a random buff.

Will give more time for nominees, in the meantime here are mine.

Assist - Venus Tali

Honestly not sure the best format for her assist. Can see both an offensive or supportive role working. She is very technologically skilled so maybe thay can be incorporated. (Think Liara is the most logical choice current day but since this is releasing around Andromeda before the next games tease with Liara i think other characters like Tali, Garrus, Miranda, Wrex, EDI, & Legion could also work imo.)

Stage - (Citadel) Dock Bay D24

A simple layout with the Normandy docked & a chunk of the Citadel visible in the background.

The Citadel
Fight on the Noramdy as it flies through the Citadel and docks there. Like a lot of the Star Fox stages from Smash.

Garrus_Vakarian.png

Garrus
Really popular character. will appear and stand behind his summoner, shooting with his rifle to protect them.

Assist:
Assist Name: Urdnot Wrex
Assist Origin: Mass Effect (2007)

A decently popular character from the Mass Effect series who was a squadmate in the first game, also notable for being one of the last Krogan Battlemasters in the universe. In terms of function, his nature as a damage sponge in the first game would be played on a little. Specifically, he charges a short distance in front of you (which deals a little damage), the whole time having the Barrier effect active - which effectively no-sells any enemy attack which hits him, melee or projectile. If he's not close to an enemy, he keeps this active for a moment before being desummoned, but if he is close to an enemy, he'll grab and throw them upward and forward with a mass effect field, dealing quite a lot of knockback in the process.

Job 67 - Nominate a 1st Party & 3rd Party fighter (2 Nominees allowed) to be our DLC for 2018.

Below is a list of Xbox releases from that year published by Microsoft. Does not need to be from that list, is just a reference of what might be getting a marketing boost around the time.

Also the following acquisitions were made this year & would be considered 1st party now.

Ninja Theory (Hell Blade, Kung Fu Chaos (if it wasnt already))
Complosion (We Happy Few, Contrast)
Undead Labs (State of Decay)
Playground Games

Sea of Thieves
State of Decay 2
PUBG
Forza Horizon 4
We Happy Few

Will submit my 2 nominees later.

Pirate (Sea of Thieves)
Pretty big game they're pushing around this time. would have multiple costumes that make them look different and a general pirate themed moveset.

IAT_Crash_Bandicoot.png

Crash Bandicoot
There where characters I considered like a Rockstar character or someone from Borderlands but I didn't wanna do three gun users in a row. he's more known for PS but he is getting a push at this time and Xbox will buy him in the future.

Character Name: Feral
Character Origin: State of Decay (360, 2013)

With State of Decay 2 being a releasing title in 2018, and both games in the series to this point being decently well-recieved, I think a character from the series would be a lot of fun. That said, given a general lack of really fun and iconic protagonists to pick from, I'm instead suggesting something a little unorthodox - specifically an iconic variant of zombie you encounter in the game, the Feral. Also, before I go further - the Feral would have a slight redesign (akin to the attached piece of promotional art) to make them fit a little better for this game's age rating.

In terms of gameplay, the Feral is characterised in SoD for being an incredibly fast and ferocious enemy - running on all fours and attacking with powerful lunges, slashes, and bites. This lends fantastically to a fast-paced rushdown glass cannon of sorts - but their high speed and unusual build lends to a couple of evasive options here and there.

Character Name: D.Va
Character Origin: Overwatch (PS4/Windows/Xbox One, 2016)

Overwatch is, by this point, a pretty large-scale multimedia franchise being helmed by Activision-Blizzard, who Microsoft have a good working relationship with already. Not only this, it's got a massive variety of characters with unique designs and abilities to choose from. So... why not play to that?

I went with D.Va specifically over Tracer (who's arguably the face of the series) for a few reasons. To start with, D.Va's playstyle could be incredibly unique due to the use of her mech effectively making her a character of two extremes - when in her mech, she's got access to a lot of powerful tools and decent mobility, but when outside of her mech, she suffers a lot in damage output but can play defensive until she gets her mech back. That being said, D.Va is also a massively popular character in the series who's got a very large fanbase, especially in South Korea, while still having worldwide popularity and recognition aside from that.

Oh, and a funky side note. How many other characters in this game have a LEGO minifigure?

Senua (Hell Blade)

Feel like this was a decently big exclusive released the prior year & now fully 1st party being one of several buyouts this year.

Faith Connors

Think ive brought her up before. A little late i suppose since the latest Mirriors Edge game came out in 2016 but still think she makes sense. Similar to Bioware who we just added DICE has a history with Microsoft developing several racing games for them before moving on to Battlefield & getting bought also by EA. Think it makes sense to give them a rep especially since EA just got involved with the game.

Stage Name: Naval Warfare
Stage Origin:
Sea of Thieves (2018)

This stage would basically be an encapsulation of one of Sea of Thieves' largest gameplay elements - naval combat - all put together in a unique and unusual way that I think would lend to a neat stage. Viewed from the front, you'd fight on two ships - a Galleon and a Skeleton Ship - with a gap in the centre, while the ships would move up and down with the waves. The whole time, there's a constant battle going on - cannonballs are being fired and people are fighting with cutlasses and flintlocks - so you'll need to avoid some of the chaos. During the battle, one of the ships will be sank, and everyone's forced on board only one of them... before it comes up to another ship and engages in combat again.

Stage Name: Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Stage Origin: Overwatch
(2016)

An iconic location which was included both as a launch map for Overwatch as well as being a prominent location in the franchises' lore, acting as the main base from which Overwatch actually operate. This stage's "gimmick" would be similar to the gameplay of the map in Overwatch itself, in that over time, the rocket in the stage's centre is prepared for launch and occasionally emits test burns, before launching around 20 seconds before the match's end. Not only this, but you'll see a variety of Overwatch heroes in the background from time to time, including characters like Winston, Tracer, Junkrat, Zarya, and so forth.

Old Sailor Isle

1st area from the game. Only played a little Sea of Thieves so this is all im mildly familiar with. Simple layout in island with a couple ships battling back & forth in background.

Temple of Anubis

Idk, wanted to include one of the 12 original stages & this is the one i thought looked the coolest. Like the mix of past & future in the design plus not sure we have that many desert stages if any.

Vote for your favorite stage. Can self vote.

Will vote for KneeOfJustice99's stages (see spoiler for my nominees).

Naval Warfare (Sea of Thieves)
Watchpoint Gibraltar (Overwatch)

Job 69 - Nominate an assist for Sea of Thieves &/or Overwatch.

Will give 1 more day, here are my nominees.

Tracer

Since shes not playable figured the series arguable most recognizable character would make for a decent assist. Likely an offensive assist utilizing her weapons to target enemies.

Madme Olivia

Not too familiar with game as previously mentioned. Looked at the whos who section of the offical website & thought this fortune teller could make for a decent supportive assist.

I'll admit there's not a lot of Sea of Thieves characters that would be particularly good fits that, well... exist yet. On research, the issue with the game being as it is is that a lot of the game's more iconic characters were introduced after 2019... so it doesn't make sense to pull a Roy and introduce them here. Madme Olivia seems fun, though!

Alternatively...

Assist Name: Lúcio
Assist Origin: Overwatch
(2016)

A character originating from Overwatch's early days, Lúcio's another well-liked character who people appreciate for a wide variety of reasons, including his gameplay, design, and abilities. That aside, he's also got some pretty cool skills that'd lend well to him being a fun assist!

When summoned, he'll have one of two effects - both of which come from his Crossfade ability. There's a 50/50 chance of him playing Speed Boost or Healing Boost - the former increases your movement speed and jump height, the latter gradually heals you over time. This effect creates a "field" around him if you're playing in teams, doubles or otherwise, with other allies in the field able to take on the same effect. Plus, he'll follow you around as you move!
