This is all speculation until I can actually sit down and play the game. Based on the leak and information so far, especially marketing. I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of the shameless plugging of Kirby and Kid Icarus. Looking at items, Smash Run, stages, trailers, art appearances and Final Smashes.

If Pit, Palutena and Dark Pit are actually in the game I'm kind of lost as to why. Especially when long running franchises like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero and Donkey Kong are seemingly getting the short end of the stick. In my mind, Smash Bros should be a celebration of everything Nintendo. (yes, that includes Pac-Man and Megaman)

A few things that come to mind regarding the franchises I mentioned. Metroid having 2 variations of the same character, a rehashed stage and no alternate costumes so far. Wolf being cut, he's the Dedede of Star Fox. Ganondorf still being Black Shadow, nothing new for the DK fans, even after the succes of DKCR and DKCR:TF.

Going to turn the Smash Balls off probably. Pit and Kirby get new a FS and Donkey Kong still has to play those lousy bongos. ZSS stole Snake his act. 2 Landmasters if you look at the lazy FS Link/Toon Link and Zelda/Sheik (still) have. In my opinion, all the FS should either be cinematic and scripted (ie Megaman, Captain Falcon) or a power up (ie Charizard, Little Mac) not all of them tossed in a blender.

Definitely agree regarding the 3DS holding the Wii U back. Ice Climbers cut? Why include them in the first place then. To a degree, I can understand cutting Lucas, Mewtwo, Roy and Wolf, they share moves or playstyles with other characters. But that doesn't add up if Lucina, Dr. Mario and *shivers* Dark Pit are playable. Costume excuse = no excuse.

Mind you, all of the above is speculation. This is once again, based on what little finalized information we have regarding the topics I talked about.

Smash for Wii U is still a day 1 purchase for me, I love the series too much. And the above isn't everything. A lot of the additions are simply beautiful! Little Mac, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Megaman, Pac-Man. Oh, Duck Hunt Dog?!?! Luigi getting a FS that makes sense. Donkey Kong his new running rolling attack. Custom moves look pretty fun too. The amount of effort put into the trailers is stunning. I was able to play a few matches at Gamescom and I found it more enjoyable than Brawl. They even removed SSE, yes!

Wanted to end on a positive note, because Smash to me, is having fun. Sakurai would really have to mess things up for me to not play the series anymore. (Goku, Knuckles [he's my favorite character from the Sonic series] & Mickey Mouse as playable characters)

Clones, after being promised NONE.

Oh well, there are enough cool newcomers (I'm pumped for almost all of them, save the clones and Palutena) so eh.

Smash Run seems incredibly boring, but to be fair I won't give a final judgement until I've had some time with it.

The absolute boredom that is Jigglypuff. Why are you still here? Oh big deal, you're Fairy type now. What's that gonna do for you? You think you're all that and a bag of chips just cuz you're of the Original 12! Ughhhhh, how boring.

The potential Ice Climbers cut. It's a shame they had to go just cuz the 3DS (presumably) couldn't keep up.

Hear me out, I actually think its better in the long run that more deserving characters didn't get in. Clones are only thrown in at the end to pad the roster, not taking nearly as long as original characters to develop. Now what if they decided that one of those clones would be a more deserving character like Dixie or Krystal? I would rather wait for the next smash and have more thought put into the deserving characters than get some a carbon copy of Diddy, then have that probably transfer over to the next game. And you never know, the leak has a chance of not being complete so we might see some of the deserving characters.

I think I disagree with every bit of your speculation except for the bad/same final smashes.

And definitely the clones are the worst thing.

Not too sure if this counts, but the time release for the new 3DS vs the limited edition Smash 3DS XL that's coming out.

3DS- Some franchises seem to only get returning stages, and not any new stages (Metroid, DK, Starfox)

Both- Way too much Kid Icarus stuff, and I liked Uprising.

Wii U- Mario Galaxy looks awful, graphics-wise.

Just to clarify. I don't hate Kid Icarus, to the contrary. Nothing but respect for the successful resurrection of the franchise. My own disappointment comes from the fact that the treatment overall isn't equal, if you ask me. Looking at Brawl Lucas was meant to replace Ness (if that's actually true), having them both seemed unfair compared to once again, Metroid and F-Zero.

Sakurai worked his butt off on Uprising and the Kirby series and I enjoy playing the respective games!
And at the end of the day I know you can't please everyone, people will get disappointed.

RE: SSE. The original designs were too Kirby for my taste. Why not include actual Kirby enemies? They could've combined all the franchises but only Super Mario and Donkey Kong had actual characters present. And the story overall was a bit of a letdown. Sonic saving the day? Everybody knows it should've been Jigglypuff... Their ambition was great, the execution not so much. I do feel bad for the people who liked it though. And at least I wasn't forced to play through SSE to unlock characters.

For the record, as a Metroid fan, I should be angry at the KI representation, but I'm not, since I do think KIU deserves all the content it can get.

I was really, really hoping that by the time a build as final as this came out, my least favorite part of the game would have changed.

Alas, it has not. I still do not have a copy of the game. Sakurai, this has to change.

One of the worst parts? We're not getting to see Samus walking badass-esque with Pikachu at her side with the Super Metroid Main Theme playing? Seriously, we need to get at least something that offers cinematic eye/ear candy for Nintendo fans who actually care about the game's Nintendo content.

Welp, this far into the wait, I can reasonably confirm two things I've been hoping wouldn't happen.

Firstly, (big "IMO" here) the Pokémon roster is lackluster, bordering on atrocious. I hated the way Charizard, Jiggz and Lucario played in Brawl, but could put up with that due to how solid the other three were. The potential of only Greninja (whom I'm not sold on yet) getting added in exchange for the better two-thirds of Pokémon Trainer, while all of the others remain, frankly ticks me off. I got into Pokémon relatively recently, and I never watched the anime, so gen-I nostalgia carries pretty much zero weight for me in terms of the roster. In particular, Jigglypuff was a passable inclusion in 64 and Melee, clearly there just for legacy's sake in Brawl, and has absolutely no business in SSB4. Bottom line, two whole generations of Pokémon have completely gotten slighted in favor of "popular" gen-I Pokémon that I'm not convinced deserve it, and there really hasn't been any adequate replacement for the unique movesets we lost in Squirtle and Ivysaur. (As a minor side note, it seems strange how none of the newcomers are really super-lightweights like Squirtle or Pichu or the like, excepting maybe Villager or Bowser Jr. But that's neither here nor there...)

Secondly, and no "IMO" here, the MOTHER fanbase got royally screwed over hype-wise. Now don 't get me wrong; I've expected Lucas's chances of returning to be low for a long time, and I can understand the reasoning behind it (and I highly doubt it was because he was a 'clone'). Furthermore, with the ESRB leaks including a Smash Run enemy and potentially a stage from MOTHER 1, I think the series is getting more than sufficient representation; certainly more than I expected. However, just taking into account official promotional screenshots, Miiverse, E3 build, etc., what have we seen from the series thus far? Two items. That were all but guaranteed to return anyway. And even those weren't ever featured in a 'Pic of the Day'! Come on Nintendo, even if we might have anticipated only Ness returning, why does that mean you have to hide practically all evidence of the series' existence? Combining this with the joke about MOTHER 3 in the E3 presentation, and the whole thing comes off as downright cruel (though I'm sure that wasn't the intent, even the E3 joke likely wasn't meant that way).

All that being said, I'm super hyped for Smash 4 for both systems, and aside from my qualms with the playable Pokémon, I think the roster is fantastic. Just a few more days before I'll finally get to see how Ness plays!

How about all the people who've actually gotten angry and gotten into dumb, petty arguements and mud slinging contests over a video game? I think that's by far the worst.

Real friggin talk tho? I've got a few problems off the top of my head.
1. Sonic gets a new stage for his shiny Wii U game but theres no sign of a Mario 3D World stage yet, same goes for the lack of Tropical Freeze stage.
2.DK's final smash isn't the move from DKC: Returns or DKC: Tropical Freeze where DK wails on the boss after defeating him.
3. Apparently Pac-Man (according to @Zipzo ) is extremely slow and has a fall speed that belongs in Brawl.
Anyone else find themselves conflicting with these points?

Well, it sort of makes sense for Pac-Man to be slow, given that he's kinda slow in his original games. Besides, maybe air game is his thing. Might explain the lulzy fall speed. The way Zipzo explained it, his fall speed was on the slow side even for Brawl.

Beep Block Skyway would make a great stage, the music is awesome, and even if it was flat - having to keep on your toes and make sure the platform under you doesn't disappear every six seconds or so would make a really fun, hectic match.

As for Tropical Freeze, Busted Bayou complete with silhouettes please.

Character cuts such as Ice Climbers and Squirtle/Ivysaur. I understand why Snake got cut but... Ice Climbers' cut is just so surreal to me.

Not exactly the worst thing, I don't like how the new stages focuses way too much on the most recent games (especially Other M and Sonic Lost World being mediocre entries to their respective series). I would've loved a balance between old and new games getting stage representation. I recognize some old games do get reps (like GB and OoT stage (which likely got in due to the 3DS remake)), but as of now it feels mostly just games that came out in the last 5 years. I guess their solution is to reuse Melee/Brawl stages to make up for it, so I guess that kind of works out. But even so... would've loved to see old game locations remade in HD! Ah well...

Kind of disappointed we might not get a Kanto/Johto/Hoenn-based location for this game either. I'm not a huge fan of Unova (not a fan of BW) and Kalos (it was an okay region), but it's nice that they get a representation for those who love them, but it would be nice if they also make a stage based on one of the older regions too!

But I think my MAJOR gripe on the stage roster (on the 3DS version) is how poorly thought out it was in terms of choice. If you remove the past stages, the majority of the franchises are left out. Mario (understandably as he is a huge franchise) gets 4 stages... but then there is absolutely no new Star Fox, Donkey Kong (WTF), Metroid (seriously?), Yoshi (wow), Wario, etc stage. Surprised F-Zero seems to have a new stage though.. but wow. A lot of these franchises had notable handheld releases, so it's weird to see them getting nothing new. I hope the Wii U version does a much better job with this.

Overall, I'm still very much looking forward to the game. It looks like a massive improvement over Brawl in so many ways. Single Player mode looks fun again (which Brawl's SP modes were generally very boring or terrible outside of Boss Battles) too! I'm hoping we get Event Matches and are more memorable this time.

I was thinking something like The Great Tower of Bowser Land where the players have to ascend while fighting each other, similar to the stage in Melee who's name is lost on me right now. But Beep Block Skyway gets ALL my yes, that would be a fantastic stage, and the disappearing reappearing platforms would add some new fun and strategy. Hats off to you for thinking of that! And same for Busted Bayou, fantastic DK level.

Dr. Mario.
Agreed, he did not return, as he was just Mario cosplaying as a Doctor. How they can justify a character slot for that I have no idea. Lucina shouldn't be in either, seeing as it should've been Chrom. Metroid Other M references, you've been replaced as the worst part for me.

Is Bowser Land the Casino/Theme Park type area? I haven't seen all of the game, just bits from friends playing it. That would be a fun idea.

The Glory version of Beep Block could have a complex layout of blocks, just they wouldn't disappear. On this version of the stage you wouldn't hear the beeps of the blocks of the songs, and on the regular version you'd hear beeps over other songs from the game.

Busted Bayou could have some other great songs from Tropical Freeze too even if they might not all match the stage.

Alright, here's the absolute worst experience of Smash 4 for me: People complaining about "over-sexualization" on Zero Suit Samus for the longest time. However it was funny as hell to see them get silenced when Shulk got an alternate costume that was waaaay more revealing than anything Samus is wearing. Like jesus remember how some people reacted when her two piece costume from the endings in Zero Mission were revealed? I just hope they realized how stupid they were acting and grow up.

In-game related though, well what I feared came true and it looks like Toon Link/Link and Zelda/Sheik have each others final smashes again. I just don't understand why characters with already unique final smashes like Kirby, Luigi or Dedede can get new and unique final smashes but characters with clone final smashes can't. We're probably going to get two Critical Hit's and two Landmasters as well.

Sonic's stage isn't based off of a handheld game. You said 3DS stages would be based off handhelds! First Generations 3DS lied to me and now this!?!

Everything about this game's so terrible, I can't even begin to describe it, but the worst thing has to be the roster.
