I recently brounght mario strikers charged football form my local game shop and went online.
And instantly all the characters were unlocked and all the staged were revealed 2.now i wasnt 2 botherd about this but then i instantly thought "what if brawl does the same".

Think about it you have just looked at the character select screen and the stage select screen and saw loads of ??? in spaces and you look forward to finding out who and what they are.

but then you go online just to see sonic in the bottom left corner.

personaly i would feel abit exited because of all these characters but allso dissapointed because i wanted to feel the exitement of the "DANGER!! A NEW CHALENGER IS APPROACHING" and trying to geuss who the shiluette represents before pressing a.

DISCUSS.

should wifi spoil the game?

I agree completely, I beleive thats a big revelation as far as how games on online-wii will behave. Having those surprises ruined just by joining an online game sucks.

Hopefully it is software specific, and brawl behaves differently. I have been planning on playing through the game in its entirety, unlocking everything and getting the most out of it.

Well, if we are going to be playing Brawl online, I'm guessing it would have to spoil the surprise... If your opponent is using a character that you aren't to familiar with, that would be considered a bit unfair, especially you yourself can not select the character... So it probably be a bit of spoilage, unless there is a function in the game where you CANNOT go online unless you unlock everything...

You don't think that Online mode would have to be unlocked, do you? That'd be one way to solve it.

Otherwise, it may just be better to avoid online until you unlock all te characters if you don't want to be spoiled.

Dont play online till you unlocked it all? I'm sure Sakuria has/is considering this and has/is found the best way around it, like with the controllers.

Tbh, i'd be more anxious knowing that Ridley is in the game due to online and all chara's unlocked than for waiting ages to unlock everything and then find him.

Hmm, I remember a suggestion that said something like this.

"Make Online play mode, the last unlockable you get"

I really liked that idea, not only does it give you an incentive to play play play!
It also gives the Noobs some time to at least get decent and not get all Insta-Owned.

What about us, who are too crap to unlock everything ( Haven't got FD on Melee and had it since 2001). Does that mean we dont get to play online? I might turn to the darkside and get a gameshark.

well, if you haven't unlocked FD, you'll probably get wasted online anyway. I think it's best to have online as the last unlockable feature.

i agree with Pyro, if online is the last unlockable feature, less noobs online and you have to unlock things the hard way (unlike a few people i know with gamesharks)

I'd like to be able to take my time with the 1-player mode and not have to rush through it to unlock everything just so I could go online. Personally, If I went online and someone else has some super secret character that I haven't unlocked yet, I think they deserve to be able to use them against me or the other way around. The surprise might be ruined...well not really. That's still a big surprise, going online and suddenly you're playing against a sonic or someone.

Or
Yeah... I think limiting the multiplayer capabilities just so you don't see an opponenet playing a secret character is just plain silly. Making online play unlockable after you get all the characters would most definitely annoy a lot of people, especially those who won't go to gamefaqs to see how to unlock things the fastest. So, making online unlockable seems like it'd limit the fun of unlocking things more than it'd help.
And really... coming online and playing against someone using a never before seen character could actually be more exciting then running against a "new challenger" AI.

It dosnt take long to Unlock everything...

If you play 2 Hours a day, it takes you about 15 Days to have Absolutly everything!

And lets be honest... your going to playing more than 2 Hours a day.

Here's a way to fix this, if you play against someone with a character you do not yet have then they can choose it but you can't. If you manage to beat them the character is added to your character roster. Nice and easy. Although this would lead to friends giving each other characters but that isn't a problem.

I have seen the method used in Hunters and I thought it worked well, it is a little different since in Hunters since I'm pretty sure everyone knew about all the characters in Hunters before unlocking them. I still think it will work though.

I was thinking about this. it would suck if you ask me; but at the same time, I don't really think it's that big a deal. most of the characters are going to end up being revealed anyways. once a few people unlock all the characters... they will be all over the internet (especaily a site like this).

Worried about spoilers? Don't go online. That's the rule for any game, including Melee. (yes, I mean Melee)

The day after Melee was released, every character and how to get them was online. How do I know? I checked. So, if you don't want to know, don't check. And, if you suck and can't figure out how to get them, look online. Or, if you're just curious, look online the next day. I guarantee some Japanese kid will have unlocked them all by then...

Actually, I bought the Nintendo Power guide before I even bought the game. It has a lot of interesting stuff in it, even if you don't want to use it to unlock the characters. Example: It has the name of every move. That way, when you're owning some noob with Ganondorf, you can yell out: "Skull crusher! Hidden Gauntlet! Thunderdrop!" (Yes, we actually did this...)

I think it is nearly unanimous that wifi should be the final, FINAL unlockable in Brawl. Though you shouldn't have to do anything -too- crazy to get it, or any of the other unlockables . . .

. . . right?

I happen to think that anyone can pick from anything they've unlocked; but when you play on a stage or someone else uses a character that's locked to you, they're masked. Like, you only see the stage in wireframe, or your opponents are only muted black collision bubbles. It won't look good, but it just may work.

Sakurai said he's revealing all of the characters before Brawl is released - there's no surprise to be ruined.

What, so I suck, I can't play the game? Isn't there some form of law against stuff like that?
Maybe no characters will be locked, and you get them all to start.

No, really.

everyone here is thinking as if you have to play the people who've unlocked things before you have online. What if they could just implement a code for the random matchmaking or whatever the system is so that you can only play people who've unlocked what you have? It's fairly complicated, and it would slim down the amount of potential players you could play, but there will be a lot of smashers online, so you'll definitely always have someone to play with. Or you could at least have the choice between an option of playing anyone with anything unlocked, and playing only people who've unlocked what you have. This way, we can all get online from the get-go and not worry about brawl being spoiled.

It's not going to be a problem with Stages; you just wont play on the unlockables.

Simple: when looking for an opponent, it should have an ' unlocked' tag next to it, to show that that person has unlocked at least one character, and if they have an ' All unlocked' tag so you know they have all characters unlocked.

thats a good idea, except for 4 player matches, what if only 1 person had unlocked everything, while everyone else unlocked everything. that would suck.
i still like the idea of it being the last unlockable thing, or once you get the last character, it come automatically.

I vote for the metroid prime hunters system

That way if people only want to play online they can (which I might do if the singleplayer is as bad as it was in melee).
