Can't wait can't wait. Darn you NA, Aus and Europe are gonna be left trailing by a mile for launch. It's all to do with the extra 4 languages eh and the PAL conversion of course, but if they pull a 6 month difference it could set me off.

I'd be ready to pay as much as $500AUD for it. I spent about $620 for the GC and it's accessories and it left me with no money remaining in my account. Good times.

No it's not, it's simply because we're not as huge a market as Japan or the US. That and they simply hate us.

EDIT: Originally my post posed the question "Can't you guys order one from an American-based retailer?" Obviously you can't, otherwise I'm sure you guys wouldn't be complaining about the wait. What factors are interfering with my proposal? Is it the currency? No overseas shipping? What?

I meant Australian dollars Deo, sorry for the confusion, my loaction should have hinted it though.

Well you wouldn't be able to play any PAL games afterwards if you were to buy it from an American retailer, unless it's possible to override the region lock somehow.

Playstation is a titan in these territories, no love for Nintendo at all, some stores don't even have pretty display shelves for GC games, they're all under the counter or in storage. EB Games is sadly the only retailer that supplies the games properly. Yet I have this hate of buying games from there.

I never understood why video game companies still go to the trouble of making 50Hz games while 95% TVs have the capability to display 60Hz. Yet I also realise there is a PAL60 as well as an NTSC60, what's the difference?

EDIT: Fixed some typos and some weirdly placed sentences.

All right, I've been wondering, what's PAL stand for? It's obviously got something to do with non-US territories, but what does it mean exactly?

PAL is the standard of television signal in Europe and Australia and alot more countries. It's more widespread then NTSC I believe. PAL has a refresh rate of 50 per second while NTSC has a refresh of 50 frames a second. Also there are only 480 horizontal lines drawn in NTSC while there are 576 lines in PAL.

I think it means Phase-Altering Line or something.

Most TVs here actually have an alternate form of NTSC, PAL60, which functions just about the same as NTSC. It's confusing I know but the main thing is the extra horizontal lines and the lower refresh rate.

Nintendo means either: a) "In heavans hands", according to Nintendo Power; or b) "Heavenly Shop" or "Shop of Heavan", Ninten means "heavan and "do" means "shop" in japanesse, according to
open-encyclopedia.com.

I read that it meant something like "We do the best we can with what we have, and awiat the results." maybe from NP, methinks.

Ok, thanks for the PAL explanation. So basically, there needs to be a different version of the disc for TVs that work differently, is that basically it without a lot of electronic technical mumbo-jumbo?

Just a minor nitpick with your terminology and stuff...and a fun fact to boot...the frame rate of PAL is 25 frames per second or 50 fields per second. NTSC has a frame rate of 30 frames per second or 60 fields per second. A field is the method that is used to display data on a television screen. One frame is broken into 2 fields, which consist of every second (horizontal) line on the screen. The fields alternate between the different lines on the screen, with two fields making up a full image. Yeah.

blacksheap...yes, the discs and the console both need to be altered to be used on PAL televisions. There are also quite often bugs that are removed in the PAL versions of games, probably just because they have the time to do so.

My error. I tend to screw up my facts occasionally. This way of producing an image only apply to when interlacing correct because if I'm not mistaken, progressive scan draws the entire screen at one time, instead of splitting the frame into 2 fields. Progressive doesn't leave those horizontal lines you see on the screen like Interlacing does.

Most PAL televisions can accept an NTSC video game console's output and display it properly and as many PAL gamers would know, you can change the horizontal frequency when you first start from 50Hz to 60Hz if you want to. I don't see much difference though.

Also, don't light guns use the scan lines of a TV to work? I would guess with the advent of progressive scan this is why there were no N64 or Gamecube lightgun accesories. Is this right?

Okay, I'm not as knowledgeable about electronics as many gamers or people on the Internet, but I could get the gist of that, there were enough terms in there that I knew. And I'm in the US also, so I guess I'll get all the glitches.

We do seem to have gone off topis quite considerably, I guess i overdid it.

I'm not sure that the Rev Remote will use scan lines to detect its movement, instead the console would interpret the controller's movement and then output it onto the TV. Didn't the old variety of Light Gun's only work on CRT displays?

Since Nintendo claims that it'll work on all varieties of TVs, I guess it'll interpret it in a way similar to my explanation. So you probably won't have to actually point up onto the TV screen, which could possibly be painful for your arm after some time.

Other statements have been made that there might be sensors placed on each side of the TV but I'm not to sure of that.

A gun attachement for the remote would be cool. Better lightgun type thing than ever before.

Now thats an attachment I want for the revo. That would be cool is you could switch attachments on the go and easy like. Use the Light Gun attachment for Pistol shooting, pop it off and insert the Super Scope for Rocket Launchers and Shotguns! Oh yeah!

It's easier for me to call it a light gun, even though it isn't one. Call it a tilt-sensitive controller if you'd prefer that, just light gun is easier for me on typing.

In an article about the Revolution controller featured in issue 198 of EGM, the author notes that Nintendo said other features will be shown later, and guesses that a mic will be built in. After playing a few of the mic mini-games from Mario Party 7 (with great reluctancy at first), I must say that I would be elated to see a mic built-into the Revolution's controller. It would be great. For example, in a Harry Potter game you could actually conjure spells by pronouncing them. Or you could sing your heart out in a Karaoke Revolution Party without having to buy additional peripherals. The possibilities are endless.

yeah, an command games like, i can't think of it but i think it's Rainbow Six or something like that, players can give voice commands rather than pressing buttons. I've never played a squad game before but I'm sure voice recongnition would be alot better than what we've been using now. You could be shooting while shouting orders like "Alpha 1, lay those detonators along the east wall. Alpha 3 and 4, gernade their sorry @$$es." That would be so cool to be able to do that!

Searching for my own way of the ninja.
I wanna know what's up with that 'home' button, ya know?
Microphone is a possibility, since Nintendo is the most experience with voice stuff in their games.
Voice chat in SSB3 would be pretty cool, too.

I wonder, though, just how much the controller will change things. I mean, after I use the Rev. comtroller, will going back to joysticks feel as archaice as pads did after I used joysticks?

And yes, before Thanksgiving, which could TECHNICALLY mean in June. I doubt that, but you never know. Thanksgiving seems about the perfect time. I wonder if the PS3 will release at the same time...'Tis an exciting year for gaming, indeed. We're just off to a slow start, is all.

The controller just might change things as much to the point it because a standard feel and the controllers we use today will feel strange and weird in the future. Even today, people can use a thirteen button controller but when it comes to the nes controller, they don't know what to do with themselves. Luckly for me, I still practice on the old nes so I don't lose that skill :)
I keep getting strange feeling that we may not see the PS3 till late 06 or early 07. I haven't heard any rumors covering the release date or even a more precise price of the system. I'm still guessing the thing will run over $400. And I really don't like the idea of the Xbox having two versions of a system and you most likly need an HDTV to play some of their games. I will most likely own a Xbox360 in, say...about 15-20 years from now when their consider antics that are worth about $100 or so. IF you don't think thats possible, I have at least 4-5 nes systems with a box load of games that STILL work. sometimes you got to do a few tricks to get'em started but they work. It just sucks sometimes right in the middle of things they start to glitch. And sometimes they REALLY glitch and things get fun! One time I started playing LoZ 2 and I had all the spells and items from the very start, and I could still save the file as well. But due to old age, saved files often get erased.

I am definitly looking forward to the Revos backward catalog for those NES games, even if I already own them. Playing without the game freezing or glitching up is a seller for me.

A wire-less head set would be a blessing in a Smash Bros. game. Me and my friends are often making up words, sounds, and ridiculous trash talk right in the middle of fighting. Often reciting phrases from Movies "How do you like my Face to your fist technique?" or "I'm bleeding therefore I am victor!" and "Durka durka!". While playing as Ganondorf, I often shout "My Face! Not my beautiful face!". I win after that because my friends are laughing so hard they can't even play. Another way to beat your friends at home, turn down the temperature and practise playing games in the cold. Once you get used to the cold, invite your friends and play at low temps. My room gets colder than it does outside during the winter (I live in a rock house with no upstairs heating, my room is upstairs) and I can play fine in the cold but my friends would have to flex their fingers to get them moving again. Having the home feild advantage, I would kick butt.

Couldn't Nintendo just put on a warning about foul language, and add an on/off feature. And most people would only leave it on when playing with friends, or something? Seems logical...
