It's not confirmed but I'm going to be very angry if Nintendo doesn't support the gamecube controller in brawl, having it any other way would suck bigtime.
Why? It's already been hinted (pretty much confirmed) that it uses a "cube controller, so that it's easy and cheap to play.

Ending your game.
Most people who own a Wii likely own a GameCube --> have at least played or own Melee --> own a Cube controller. Not like it's difficult to get one now anyways. If you can't endure spending money, ask a friend who never uses their spare to loan you it when the time comes. As far as we know, you'll only be using the remote to select the Disk channel and run the game...

Classic controller can do that, but then again, it needs the Wiimote to function...

You might be able to use GC controllers, but Nintendo will make sure to have a Wiimote/Nunchuck scheme. Fact.

Fixed. Just to make my message long enough. Just curious, why did you highlight?

This just isn't true. I know PLENTY of people who don't have GC's but have a Wii.

But to be fair, after they got the Wii, they ran out and bought a GC controller to play some GC games.

And as far as we know, you might be using the Wii remote for everything. The fact is that we just don't know much, now do we?

Razed, I think you forgot to add in the word 'not.'

GAW, we're good! Yay us!

You all seem to have good opinions. Ithink they should have a choice over wii remote and nunchuk, classic paddle, and gamecube paddle that way everyone's happy
i was about to say the same thing. Like players can have a choice to play with whichever controller they would prefer.

I really don't know how it's going to work out, if you can't play the game with what the Wii comes with. Maybe they'll make it playable with classic controller and bundle it? I can't see it working out economically.

Anyone remember Single Button Mode in SSBM? It was pretty much a halfassed attempt to making the game more user friendly. Now we got the Wii, a whole system dedicated to appealing to non-gamers. I find it a bit hard to believe that a SSB game on the Wii wouldn't make some sort of attempt to mass-appeal especially when its predecessor did. So regardless of what Sakurai may have actually said, I foresee motion controls being worked in as an option.

BTW, people here take Sakurai's statements way too seriously. It is entirely for him to change his mind after all.

& while I'm here, Here's Mortal Kombat using all motion controls, thus demonstrating how fighters are really done on the system.
