Smash 3DS Why I Prefer Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

There wasn't even going to be a Wii U version (at least I've heard) at first!
Sounds unlikely, given its announcement time (after Wii U's announcment) and the fact that every other Smash has been console-only. I've never heard such a thing.

Fact is the 3DS has more of an install base and that's why that version exists. You don't have to find reasons for it to better when we know it isn't and that's going to be really obvious when Smash U comes out.

Despite the 3DS's exclusive features we've only seen one thing for Wii U - Amiibo...
*crickets*
Well its not like that's going to be its only exclusive feature... just as we haven't seen all the 3DS has to offer, we haven't really seen anything the Wii U does (ie. Adventure mode etc)

In the end I'll probably wait for the Wii U version. When maybe half a year or more passes I'll pick up the 3DS version to relive unlocking all the characters and get a new perpective on Smash4.

Well guys, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people might like the 3DS version more than the Wii U version and viceversa. As for me, I currently don't own or have a Wii U, so I'm going with the 3DS game for now. Handheld Smash is a great idea. Of course, if I ever get a Wii U, Smash Bros. will be included. I respect your thoughts and opinions. For me, both games are equal.

Those are good reasons to prefer the 3DS version over the Wii U one. And yes, people should stop calling the 3DS version the inferior one. I'm sure both versions would be equal to each other.

Like many people here, I'm also not buying the Wii U version. It's cheap, most of my social circle has 3ds's already, and SMASH URN.

Also: Complete matter of opinion, but I like the stage showing on the 3ds better than the Wii U. Arena Ferox looks way better than Coliseum, Tortimer's Island looks fun, 3DS gets the better Pac-Man stage (Both are gimmicky, but Pac-Man Land is gimmicky AND scrolling.), and Find Mii looks like a beautiful cluster****.

Any 3DS tournament will also run WAY faster since everyone has their own console. Friendlies will be insanely easy as well. PLUS any kind of pre game customization will we WAY easier for us having our own consoles. 3DS smash has a LOT going for it!
While all of this is true it will mean nothing if the Internet connection is crappy. Nothing would kill a 3ds tournament quicker than wi-if crashes, slowdowns, or even interference. Which sucks, but hopefully there will be some venues with very solid connections.

You could connect locally too I would imagine, though you raise a fair point. Still, if PSASBR could have its entire scene online with netcode probably worse then Brawl, we can make this work.

Let's not turn this into yet another 3DS vs Wii U thread please. Just saying.

That said, I'm fine with both versions. I think they are both shaping up to be really promising games in their own right imo. In the end it's down to your own personal preferences I suppose.

I'm not so interested on the Wii U version. It didn't have the same appeal as the 3DS to me, for some reason. Plus, I don't even have a Wii U, so yeah, I'm definitely getting just the 3DS Smash.

Guys, chill down. Neither version is inferior. Both are going to be great games in their own right. For some reason, ever since the 3DS and Wii U games were annnounced at E3 2011, at first, I thought the former would be an application just to customize movesets, but I turned out wrong at E3 2013: Smash Bros. 3DS is a full-fledged game. To be honest, I'm more interested in the portable iteration, but, as with every other Smash Bros. game, I'll be obviously getting the Wii U version once I get a Wii U.

I would definitely agree with people above, some of the stages look really beautiful even without HD. Reset Bomb Fortress, Arena Ferox, Rainbow road, and Gerudo Valley look incredible. Jungle Japes looks imported out of Brawl (Unless the photo is from Brawl) :lick:

Honestly, I'm just going to buy both of them, even though the Wii U version is the superior version, I'll still be playing the 3DS version a lot!

Wish the Wii U version came at the same time though T_T

Well it isn't so much netcode as it is the internet providers. For instance pokemon x has great online but at my friends house it's unplayable between the two of us because his provider is only giving him 3mbps down and 15mbps up. But we shall see come october.

I agree with all points mentioned.

Who knows? I might walk around and see people playing 3DS for once ...

I'm getting both games because they both have their perks.
Neither is inferior to the other.

Don't like it?
Deal with it~

I'm getting both and never considered otherwise. Any shortcomings the 3DS *might* have are more than made up for by its portability. That said, I'll be doing the large majority of my playing on the Wii U version once it's out.

This is now my favorite thread in this board. I agree with your points, the 3DS version is just much more interesting than the Wii U version, at least for me. The only thing that would make me not want this version is if the framerate wasn't locked 60fps, but thankfully the game runs perfectly.

So while the 3DS version have portability, cute cel-shaded graphics, smash run, stereoscopic 3D, as well as the fact the 3DS is a system that actually have a good and vast library of games (meaning it is much more worth buying one for Smash as opposed to buying a Wii U for the same purpose), not to mention the 3DS version will be $20 cheaper... the Wii U version has HD graphics and local mutiplayer, two things that aren't really important to me (but unlike the 3DS version haters, I respect the people who values local multi and HD graphics, they should totally buy the Wii U version and skip the 3DS one, if those aspects are important to them).

Man, I really hope people keep posting more positive threads in this board like this one. Even with haters of the 3DS posting in this thread (like the user above), it is still nice to read mostly positive posts about the game.

The 3DS version does indeed have more Pros then the Wii U version, but the lack of HD and the graphics kill the whole thing for me, not to mention there will be NO C Stick, using Side+A feels more satisfying sure but it wears on your thumb quickly, much like playing Final Fantasy 7 (Because there's no ****ing analog), I plan to buy both, but buying a Wii U and THEN buying Wii U Smash comes first

So I guess you never played Smash 64, Melee and Brawl? Because neither of these games have HD graphics, like Smash 3DS.

As I said, though, if HD graphics are that important, you're right on preferring the Wii U version :3

The WiiU Version has local Multiplayer, HD, much more music selection, GC-Controller support, Amiibo support without an adapter, and I'm pretty sure there is more coming. I will get both, but it's pretty obvious that I will play the WiiU-Version more.

Putting amibos in a list of positive things is such a stretch. If anything, it is one of the worst things to happen with Nintendo recently.

Much more selection I can agree with it and local multiplayer means little to people who don't have friends who play video games (LOTS of people).

I can understand most of this thread, except for the fact that people also feel the need to understate/ semi bash the Wii U version as nothing special, Despite the fact we haven't seen allot from it.

It's like, There are 2 rooms:
They both have the same statues but the left room is plated in solid gold.
No information is given about the right room.
Therefore lets talk about how much the right room sucks.

What kind of question is that?

They came out in 1999, 2001, and on outdated hardware in 2008 (otherwise Brawl would be HD.)

Welcome to the 2010's. 3DS is 240p in an HD world. HD is the new SD.

I think it's a fine stance to have, but I don't think we'd be wrong in assuming Wii U is the definitive version of the game from a hardcore standpoint. The minigame nature of the gameplay on 3DS leads me to believe it's more for a casual audience.

I can't see the controls being as accessible as they'd need to be for the pace-of-play of a Smash Brothers title. My hand can transform into a pale blur during certain heated Melee moments. I fear my clumsy thumbs will cost me more than a couple of deaths.

Getting both because I travel a lot and the idea of handheld smash is amazing, the U version is for everything competitive though.

Personally, I like this one better because it is very unique. This is the first time that we are going to be getting a Smash Bros game on a handheld. I am really excited for this one and I can't wait to play the online.

If sm4sh3d has CPP support we can mod it to support GCN controller
Amiibo peripherals are planned.
portability
your own screen
Tournament simplicity (unless mods come out, it would be hard to check to makesure everyone is using the same version [ maybe ])
Smash run
Smash run
Smash run

Sm4sh4U has gcn support
and amiibos
Local multiplayer (partyhardy)
HD graphics ( never stopped people from playing brawl or shovel knight for that matter, but maybe hd is your thing )
Possible exclusive mode ( can't think of anything that'd be better than smash run, but sakurai is unpredictable. )

The two seem to have their own quirks. I will be getting both.

Wii U version will have better online, that's a big deal to me personally, most of my friends live across the country so having the option of a wired connection is essential for me. I will be getting both versions myself
