I'm trying to make it

-and as for 64- There is no official cash singles or doubles that I know of, but I'm pretty sure there is going to be ssb64 there for friendlies. (MM?)- According to Phanna

I don't see why we can't set up our own tournament though. :-)

Either the organizers are dumb or dont have enough n64 + ssb working anymore :ohwell:
Considering it's DBR, we can pretty much write off stupidity. I figure it's more of an interest-level thing; Melee and especially Brawl are where the competitive community is centred right now, and since Genesis is all hyped up and set to be the Greatest Thing That Has Ever Happened, that's what they're going with. And of course since it's so huge already adding yet another event starts to risk the event collapsing under its own weight.

i was planning on going but since they will probably not have ssb64 set ups, i will not go. i agree with tank64. if there is anyone that lives in the bay area/norcal and wants to set up a tournament during genesis, id be more than happy to go to it

Bit off topic, but if any guys on the east coast in the NoVA/DC area want to play IRL, send me a PM and we can try to set something up.

Interest... wtf, how can they write off the original game of SSB and for a lot of people the best of the three games?

Because it's not popular enough, and/or they don't have enough time to set up a tourney?

It's not complicated Nixxon.

Bah, like 1 or 2 TV and 1 or 2 N64 consoles and players bring their own controllers... not much time spending.
nevermind, brawl is more popular than ssb64 cause its new and people have bad taste, what can we do.

i don't think they're offering Smash64 as an event at Genesis. but if the 64 community wants tournaments to attend in NorCal, CGC has got your back. we just confirmed CGC X for June 20th.. this is anyone's chance to prove themselves, im sure Isai and Tigerbombz will be in attendance

A smash game lasts 3 to 5 minutes (an average of 4). A tournament match between two players can be 2 or 3 smash games (so an average of 2.5). If you expect a turn out of 32 players (expected in a big tournament like genesis), then:

- A match will last about 10 minutes
- With the loser's bracket, it totals at LEAST 61 matches
- That's 610 minutes (that's a little more than 10 hours for just 32 people)

This is an EXTREMELY forgiving calculation, ignoring things like:
- Picking characters, stages
- Time wasted between matches and games
- People plugging and unplugging controllers
- Waiting for people to show up to play their match
- Noobs that don't know how to combo efficiently and let matches drag on
- Campy players, and the duels between them.
- There cannot be any friendlies EVER until the tourney is over

This is what I meant before by "YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT NIXXON"

Every TV and system set up cuts the time in almost half. :)
Actually, no. Only the 2nd TV would cut it in half. Then you need 4 TV's to cut it in half once more.

Still, with 2 TV's, that's still 5 hours. Not to mention each player would have a wait time of AT LEAST 30 minutes between each of his tournament matches (no matter whether they lose right away or make it to finals).

Either way, it's not a fun or well run tournament.

4 tvs and 4 consoles is not a huge amunt and 2 hours and a half is a good amount of time for a tournament... that considering its 32 and not 16... oh well nvm

Good luck convincing them you need 2 more TV's for ssb64 when they probably have hundreds of players for melee and barlw.
