Well, technically speaking, i think that mango would win, only becuase everyone who plays gets better. Its common sense, but that doesn't take anything away from ken. Sometimes its all about smarts too i think. Well, everyone plays tries to play like ken. Wait, didn't ken beat M2k at some tournament after OC3? and mango beat M2k at Pound 3 (WeST CoAsT!!!). So i wouldn't know who would win...don't they know each other, they're both from socal

No Ken would win because his L button is like a MvC2 assist button only Isai comes out and knee's Ken's opponents, taunts and then leaves the screen

is this even a discussion? Last I checked Ken made Mango quit at Evo World(was getting 3 stocked on DL) and that wasn't in his prime. In his prime Ken wouldn't lose to anyone end of story.

so jsut because it took smash a couple of years to catch up to ken's level means ken can never be beat? LMAO

smash metagame had caught up and arguably passed ken by, around the time players like pc chris / kdj / m2k / cort revolutionized their characters. or did you forget the news of m2k destroying ken at oc3 and etc.?

^ so what? that's like saying (and i hate having to use kobe as an example for these type of things but it works), "kobe bryant plays basketball and trains so much more than everyone else, that's why he's so good." yeah, so what? what does that even mean to say that in a belittling context?

i entered after 2006 and i'd say Ken...

Ken is a beast, he's one of the greatest players to ever play smash, i dont see how you can argue against him...mango is good dont get me wrong but he's not Ken....

honestly i dont think mango is as good as King was when King was in his prime...

cuz little fumi said if ken was in his prime, which means ken would be playing as much as everyone else
ken was losing to the likes of KDJ and M2K well before he quit. his untouchable streak never fully came back after pc chris beat him; remember azen's comeback? and after a while he wasn't just losing, he was getting ***** every now and then. no johns.

the "new age" of smash, led by M2K, changed the way smash was played at a pro level. compare M2K's fox at pound 3 or SCC to [insert fox here]; the pure efficiency is unmatched. same with cort's peach, m2k's marth, kdj's sheik, mango's jigglypuff.

Okay no.

Honestly if this ridiculous situation actually happened it would be up for grabs but since I'm forced to pick I'd pick Ken.

LOL @ saying mango isn't as good as king was in his prime

that's just sheer lack of skill speaking there. i don't know how anyone who knows a fair bit about melee can watch mango v M2K at pound 3 and not be absolutely marveled by the ridiculous amount of perfection displayed. there is a theoretical "perfect" way to play smash, and I think their sets displayed the closest anyone's ever gotten to it

P says it best....

Ken at his prime would not be able to compete with the current competition. Mango, obviously can.

lol @ turning into a buzzkill

seriously, how fun is it with an attitude like, "well that's just my opinion PLZ DON'T HURT ME I DON'T CARE IF YOU DISAGREE"

it's not that serious, you don't have to fear confrontation.

You guys don't understand Ken. Once he knows your playstyle, it's over for you. I personally think Ken would win for sure. Maybe have trouble at first but then once he got Mango's playstyle down way less trouble. He did it to everyone that ever beat him in sets in tourneys, and he's done it to Mango. I remember when you play Ken in his prime, he would be 3-4 stocking the next best player around. It was something else, with all due respect Mango ***** but Ken was something else.

And I'm a player who has played Ken like 10 times in tourney and Mango like 5 times - and several of all these sets with both of them at their primes. If you don't have experience against both in tournament I don't think you really understand both players.

It doesn't really matter if the metagame "advanced" the way ken works is he learns your playstyle and exploits the weaknesses of your playstyle, I feel it myself when I play him. It wouldn't matter if they had different tricks, after a match or two he'd learn them pretty fast. Everytime I played him, i got kinda close first match, like two stocked, then next match he would 3 stock me and almost 4, lol. It was like I couldn't even move. And I was at about my prime at that time too. Ken was not at his prime at OC3 btw.
