for heroes, i'd probly have to go with:

cloud strife (ff7), and

link (if you dont know what link is from, shame on you)

megaman, the original.

link is the hero of time, and cloud is just so awesome that i had to pick him. and megaman is a freaking man made out of like steel.

villians would definately be:

ridley (from almost all the metroid games, sort of dissapointed that he wasn't in echoes)

ganon (keeping up with out zelda theme)

neutral:

samus aran (metroid). she's not really a hero persay b/c she is a bounty hunter, but she is sweet (in more ways than one) all the same

As a character (as in story character), he is good. In-game, depends on the game you're talking about.. SF3:3S I'd say I'm tourney level (or near) and I recognize that Akuma is only mid-tier but I've seen him own others hard in tourney.
Now if you're talking about CVS2 (Which in my opinion is not as great as SF3:3S for numerous reasons), Akuma will die horribly. C'mon.. 1 mistake = Massive A-groove punish into 3/4 hp gone (or death)?
