Hey guys, LashD094 here.

My birthday is coming up soon and i thought it's time to get something to record my brawl matches. I've read about several programs and equipment over the internet (including here) that can record your brawl matches. They all say they're the best equipment, but i want to know really,

Which is the best recorder?

I would like one with high quality, not incredibly hard to deal with....oh, and money is no object :p
Please help.

I was wondering this too.

@thegreatkazoo Is it easy to use? Complicated? I'm looking for the most convenient, easy recorder that can get decent recordings. Also, cheap. That recorder you posted is like a bajillion dollars. I'm not that adamant on getting a good one to spend that much money. O_O

A bajillion =! $150. Just saying. :011:

The HDPVR is pretty easy to use. However, I would recommend it for people who have a 480p CRT with Component Jacks.

If you don't, then I would recommend the Pinnacle Video Transfer. Quick, pain free recording for well under half the price of the HD PVR. Basic details here.

You're awesomesauce. Thank you.

But I'm a n00b to technology. If I want to record a live match of Brawl, am I plugging extra cables leading FROM the TV to this Pinnacle recorder?

De Rien.

NB the 480p CRT comment can often refer to getting an EDTV, but these two are not equivalent (as far as my extensive searching on Ebay goes), so be sure to get the full specs and pictures for the TV.

So, to answer the question, yes.

If you're going to use the PVT, then you will need a TV with an extra set of Component jacks (which are often called Video Out or something similar to this.)

Take a standard set of RCA cables (included with the shrink wrapped copies), plug them to the aforementioned Video out, then plug those into the PVT. You may want to use a PC if you want, but that isn't needed. Instead, you can instantly save files to a flash drive or external hard drive, if need be.

So, to answer the question, yes.

This:

And twenty times more so if you have a 480p CRT lying around.

I can easily say that this recorder will cover all of your video game recording needs for the next five years (@ least until everyone starts recording with HDMI )
It doesn't actually say on the site that it supports 480p. Do you know that it does?
There are devices out there that support "up to 1080i/p" but lack 480p...

Yes, I know it does.

On the ArcSoft Capture Module (the program which records the videos), resolutions are detected automatically.

It can detect 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i.

ok, just keep in mind i'm clueless with this recording stuff. So if i say something that sounds stupid or unknowledgeable about recording stuff, forgive me.

I found this thing called a dvd recorder and it says u can stick an empty disc such as a DVD-RW into it and it will record what's on the tv and put it on the disc. Wouldn't this be the easiest equipment to use?

I did this a long time ago (viz Brawl launch date), and here's what I took away from it.

  1. Heavily interlaced video. It'll look fine when you're recording it and all and playing it back, but there were times that I couldn't stand to look @ it on a PC. Deinterlacing is also a hassle, even with using Vegas.
  2. DVD recorders are quite bulky compared to any recording apparatus you can get. The weight ratio is easily 16:1 @ least.
  3. Space limitations. I'm a HQ video junkie, and with that in mind, HQ video will burn a disc in about an hour. And then there's the switching disks, disk failure, and so forth.
DVD recorders have their place, but it shouldn't be your go to recording device IMHO.

I guess i'll just get that Pinnacle thing. It looks easy enough.

EDIT: wait...the Pinnacle can hook into a computer amirite?

Double EDIT: nvm, i understand now.

TrIpLe EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVlxTSoSl6A I actually got a Dazzle Recorder. Obviously it's working great.
