Event - E3 Invitational 2014 Which controller will Nintendo advocate at Best Buy?

Nintendo's Best Buy event last year completely avoided using pro controllers (in emeryville,CA). Besides promoting their new wii u pro controller, every demo I played (donkey kong TF, Mario kart 8 and Mario 3D world) I was given wii motes and nunchucks to play with. It wasn't really a choice since the best buy staff was trying to get everyone through the line as quick as possible. There were no pro controllers in sight.

Nintendo relies on that appeal of a simple wiimote to play any of their games. Do you think this will change for the smash demo?

Do you think the best buy staff will be instructed to encourage play with the pro controller so Nintendo can sell more of them? Or do you think they will encourage the traditional way of playing wii games - with the iconic wiimote?

I think there is a low chance that they will be switching and resynching every time someone wants to play a different way. I would hope that they encourage and try to sell their pro controllers.

Personally I'm thinking Pro Controllers. Smash has always been about the handheld controllers and since they're making this one more tournament friendly I can't see them ignoring the Pro.

The gamestop brawl tournament that I attended at launch was done using wii motes and nunchucks. The whole tourney could have been easily run with cg controllers but it wasn't. Yes to us smash is about the handheld controllers but Nintendo also pushes for it's other control schemes. Hopefully you are right and they recognize that many many people will be playing with their wii u pro controllers.

And knowing Nintendo, we can't bring our own controllers with us; we can't even touch the Wii Us in an attempt to sync our controllers to them.

Why are people uncomfortable with the Wiimotes? I doubt theyll use Wii-U Pros, no matter how fitting they seem for Smash Bros, itll probably be more Wiimote + Nunchuck.

That's what they used last year at demo stations.
Yeah, this is what I wanted to find out. Gamerboi, at the best buy event last year they had us use wiimotes for all the demos. You're lucky if they had you play with pro controllers, because they didn't do that with ours. I wonder if there IS no instruction and the Nintendo reps that are at each best buy simply choose the controllers that are available to them?

Whoops, meant to have E3 in there. Fixed.

At the E3 demo stations, as well as Sakurai's Mega Man gameplay demonstration, they used Wii U Pro Controllers.

I don't think wiimote and nunchuck setup is uncomfortable, but it is a less familiar controller setup than everyone is used to. Whenever I have casual smashers over, everyone wants a cg controller. Only rarely will people want nunchuck controls.

What I'm asking is do you think Nintendo should be advocating their wii u pro controllers to garner more sales, since smash is the perfect game to do so?

Sweet that's good to know! Did you do the demo station at best buy? What controls did you use there?

I would say the Wii U Pro controllers are the most likely given it sounds like from previous statements that is the main controller that the controls are being based around.

Wii U Pro Controllers... Which are not as bad as one would think!

I'm gonna go with the Wii U pro controllers. They're going to want to push those as the main pro controller for the game.

If wiimotes are used, I wonder if the Best Buy employees would let us use mayflash adapters and gc controllers. Then it would already be synced.

Wii U Pro more than likely. I mean Sakurai was using them to play during the E3 demo.

I feel as though the Wii Mote is the most ideal controller for such an event. Most would be familiar with it.
So most would be familiar with the only controller of it's kind(Wiichuck) rather than a controller that closely resembles how game controllers have looked for decades(Pro Controller)?

The Wiimote was the Nintendo standard for almost 8 years. So to put it bluntly, no ****.

That will be quite the hassle when every match somebody needs to disconnect and resync the controllers. I think they will stick with one setup - but which?

The gamepad. They've been advertising it as the main controller for the wii u in general, and previous wii u games at BestBuy have been played on it as well, so it's only logical to assume it'll be that.

I would rather prefer the pro controller though, we'll see.

Everyone already owns Wiimotes and nunchucks. Nintendo knows that's not the preferred control type. They're going to push Pro Controller sales along with this game, so that is what you'll see at the stations.

Realistically, one person will probably get the Gamepad (as it comes with every single Wii U produced, including demo units,) and the rest will use Wii U Pro Controllers.

A Wii U gamepad and a bunch of Wiimotes with no Nunchuck. It's not ideal but I'd wager money on it. Any takers?

Was about to say the same exact thing. Last year's Best Buy event did exactly this. However, with the promotion of the Gamecube adapter, maybe we'll get lucky...?
