Ryan, me and Art were talking and we really think we shouldn't take the venue money out of the pot. Just charge and extra $5. If we get 50 people, that's 250 right there and that's seems to be a low estimate at this point. We might get 100+ people for this who knows. As long as the wheels or the other club place doesn't cost more than $500 we should be good. Cus I'm pretty sure that taking $500 out of the pot would not be a good idea.
The way he set it up was that depending on the ammount of players registerd for an event, that would equal the % of $ taken out of the pot *for that event* towards the venue fee. (From what i understand lol)
Ryan: Either way a raw number of $xxx dollars will have to be paid and i just mentioned today that the more reasonable thing to do is promote a venue fee.
MORE SETUPS GO GO GO!!! I'm going to compile a list in the coming months and personally msg everyone to confirm thier setups.
Actually from what I've been hearing, the Wheels actually costs a boatload of money to rent, so we may need to reconsider this option. There are advantages and disadvantages to both venue fee structures. The advantage to taking a % out of the pot is you know you will pay off the exact venue costs; with the obvious disadvantage being the prize pool for a small tourney would get *****. I don't intend for this to be a small tourney.
I'm not saying I'm not open to suggestions, but you also have to look at both sides of the flat venue fee. Like you said the big advantage is that we don't **** the pot if it's a small tourney. There's a few disadvantages though: first is that if it's a big tourney then there's a good chance there would be extra left over and I would feel like a douche making profit on this (obvious solution is put the profit back in the prize pool).
The next disadvantage is now matter how you look at it, a flat venue fee also hurts the prize pool. Say we charge a flat $5; then do we lower the tourney entry to $10 to keep the total entry fee in line with other tourneys? If we do then we've just knocked $5 per person out of the prize pool, which could actually lower interest from the players looking to win the tournament. If on the other hand we don't lower the entry fee to compensate for the venue fee (making the total entry $20) then we may lose interest from the more casual players who are looking for a fun tourney and not worried about winning money because now it's too expensive. I'm not kidding, I know it's dumb but it has happened before (someone who remembers LBT can vouch for this). The LBT total entry was originally $20, and the thread got flooded with people posting that they wouldn't come unless it was lowered to a standard entry fee. Honestly, $5 is nothing; it's less than those people would be paying for gas anyway; but that's just the way people are.
Good pot size = Good players = Good Hype = Good Attendance = Good Tournament.
C'mon now, we already have
me, Ally and RaynEX for hype (we just need some good players now). We can get a good pot size regardless of the venue fee structure, and the venue fee isn't set in stone, I'm just making sure everyone sees both sides of the coin on it.
